Chapter 3: 1.35: who left versus who stayed

Halos kaladkarin na ako ni David palabas ng simbahan. Hawak niya ang palapulsuhan ko nang mahigpit at puno ng pwersa. Pakiramdam ko ay babaon na ang kuko niya sa aking balat.

He’s mad. So mad. I haven’t seen them this mad. Unlike before.

“What are you doing here?” he asked me empathetically, clenching his jaw. He’s still wearing his wedding suit.

Never in my life have I imagined he’s marrying a girl other than me. I loved him so bad, he loved me so much before. Am I dreaming? This is impossible. He can’t love anyone as much as he loved me! So I refuse to believe he’s marrying someone because of love. Because if he does, he could’ve married me instead!

“I-I want to talk. C-Can’t you see--Aren’t you surprised that I survived--” I can’t even figure out what am I supposed to say first because he’s making me feel nervous and uncomfortable. His intense siren gaze makes me want to cry.

“Leave me alone! I don’t want you anymore! Let me live! I never, ever, loved you, Lynelle!” he growled. “I am thankful that you survived! Is that enough for you? You survived. Now, we're both happy. I am happy. Why can’t you just live your damn life?”

Tears formed in my eyes but I still smiled at him. I tried to touch his hand but he avoided it immediately.

“What do you want to talk about? Huh? So you can leave?”

“D-David, bakit ka nagkaganyan?” fear filled my eyes.

His strong, angry gaze softened. “Bakit ako nagkaganito?” he asked me back. “Because of you, Lynelle! You made me like this! You left first, and now, you have the desire to come back and claim me as yours again? I’m tired of being your fucking dog, Centeno!”

My tears fell as my palms met his cheek. He touched his cheek because the amount of force is unreal. I was surprised, too, because the slap was full of anger and resentment. But hurting him made me hurt more. Hurting his cheek by slapping him made my palm red. Hurting him emotionally hurt my feelings a thousand times more.

“I came back here for you!” I angrily spat. “Fine, I will leave you alone!” naglakad ako palayo pero sinundan niya ako.

“You came back here for me? Why not earlier than today, huh?” he asked with a pain in his voice.

Galit akong humarap pabalik sa kanya. “Because I almost died and you never cared! You asshole!” I felt my heart breaking into pieces. “If I had known the guy I love so much became this monster before going here, I wouldn't have come here in the first place!”

“You made me this monster, Lynelle. . .”

“I didn’t, David. I just wanted to tell you everything earlier but because of what you did just now, I don’t think you deserve to hear my side.” I wiped my tears off with force. “Congratulations on your wedding, David. P-please, live a happy marriage.” I said before turning my back at him.
