Chapter 154

Amelia squinted, a flicker of confusion in her eyes as she looked Dean up and down. "Do you know Eugene?"

Dean stayed calm, nodding slightly. "Yeah, we go way back. I asked him to handle something for me, but it's not done yet."

When Dean spoke, his eyes held an inscrutable mystery, as if everything before him was merely a scene from a play that had long been scripted. Amelia was about to say something, but Raymond cut her off before she could get a word out.

Raymond stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Amelia, his gaze sharp as an eagle's as he looked at Dean. "Alright, Mr. Palmer, you can take him. Just make sure to bring him back when you're done."

Dean's lips curled into a faint, almost imperceptible smile. "Sure thing, I'll take him."

With that, he waved his hand casually, yet with an air of authority.

The people behind Dean immediately understood and swiftly moved to take Eugene away.

Amelia hadn't expected Raymond to let Dean take Eugene so easily. She instinctively wanted to stop them, but Raymond held her back.

Amelia looked at Raymond, her eyes filled with confusion and urgency. She was about to question him when she noticed Dean giving her a meaningful glance.

That look seemed to carry countless hidden meanings, causing a wave of unease to rise in Amelia's heart.

Dean then turned and left with his people at a leisurely pace.

Once they were gone, Amelia couldn't hold back her questions any longer. "Raymond, who is that guy? We finally got Eugene here, and you just let him take him away?"

Raymond frowned slightly and said, "This isn't the place to talk. Let's discuss it back home."

He then called Harold over, gave him a few instructions, and led Amelia outside.

Amelia, full of questions, had no choice but to follow Raymond.

As they reached the door, Raymond finally spoke. "I knew Eugene had someone backing him, but I didn't know who. Today was just a test."

Raymond opened the car door for Amelia, gesturing for her to get in.

Amelia, her mind preoccupied with thoughts of Barry, got into the car without much thought.

Once they were both in the car, Amelia asked eagerly, "So, was that Mr. Palmer the person behind Eugene?"

Raymond leaned back in his seat as the car pulled away from the club. "His name is Dean. He's the most powerful person in Emerald City, known for his ruthless tactics."

"I don't know if he's the one behind your father's death, but he's dangerous. Until we have solid evidence, it's best not to provoke him."

Just then, the assistant in the front seat handed Raymond a file. He glanced at it and then passed it to Amelia.

"Take a look. For now, there's no direct evidence linking him to your father's death."

Amelia flipped through the file, her eyes widening at the gruesome details. It was filled with stories of people who had been destroyed by Dean. Some had lost limbs, others had been driven to suicide, and a few had died under mysterious circumstances.

These victims were all prominent figures in the community, including one so influential that even Amelia wouldn't dare cross them.

Seeing this, Amelia finally understood why everyone at the club had such a complex attitude towards Dean.

"But we finally have a lead. Are we just going to let it go?" Amelia couldn't hold back her frustration.

Raymond's lips curled into a confident smile. "We don't know why Dean showed up, but he took Eugene for a reason. We'll wait for him to make his move."

The car pulled up to their destination.

Raymond got out first and opened the door for Amelia.

"I'll have someone keep an eye on things. You're tired; you should rest."

Amelia stepped out and realized they were at Raymond's mansion.

She was speechless.

How did she end up here again?

Amelia turned to call a cab, but just then, Noah came running out of the mansion.

"Mom, is that you?"

Noah was in his pajamas, barefoot on the cold ground. His hair was messy, and his eyes were filled with joy.

Seeing Noah like this, Amelia's heart melted. She quickly went over and picked him up. "Why are you out here without shoes? You'll catch a cold."

Noah hugged her tightly, just like Zoey would, and said, "Mom, you finally came to see me. I missed you so much!"

Noah rarely expressed his feelings so openly, and his face turned a little red.

But Raymond had told him to make sure Amelia stayed tonight.

Although he didn't know why, he wanted to ensure a happy future with Amelia and Zoey.

Sure enough, Amelia's heart softened immediately. "I'm sorry, it's my fault for not coming to see you."

Raymond took her things from her.

"It's cold outside. Let's go in."

Amelia hesitated, but seeing Noah's hopeful eyes, she carried him inside.

She didn't stop in the living room but took Noah upstairs.

Amelia had planned to leave once Noah fell asleep, but he clung to her arm, looking pitiful. "Mom, can you stay with me tonight? I'm scared without you and Zoey."

Amelia's heart melted completely. "Okay, I'll stay with you."

She gently patted Noah's shoulder, watching as he slowly fell asleep.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Zoey was waiting for Amelia, her eyes red. "Cecil, why isn't Mommy here yet? Does she not want me anymore?"

Zoey's voice was choked with tears, her small hand gripping Cecil's shirt, her eyes full of sadness and anxiety.

Cecil smiled gently, trying to comfort her. "Of course not. She must have been delayed by something."

But as he looked at his phone, which still hadn't connected, his expression fell slightly.
