Chapter 30: Getting Involved
"Is he sincere about this or is he trying to find out my plan?" She inquired within herself already falling for his sweet words.
They both stared at each other for some moment, not able to withstand it, Carmen took her clothe and ran outside.
Sylvester lowered his head worriedly.
Lincoln came in after he saw Carmen running out of Sylvester's room.
"I don't want to see any lady in room tomorrow night" Sylvester ordered as he stood up to put on his shirt.
"Vida will return from Spain tomorrow, she sent a letter. Also, I think Libianca will also return, though I don't know about the full details." Lincoln announced to him stretching the letter to him. Sylv took the letter from him and threw it on his bed.
"One hell of a lady!" Sylvester cussed under his breath as Lincoln excused himself from his room after bowing slightly. "Wait, did you just say Libianca is coming back?" Sylvester asked curiously, recalling what Lincoln said earlier.
"I'm not sure, but rumours had it like that. I tried to contact her but it was to no avail, but she said she was coming home, but -- " He paused, trying not to say the next word.
"But what?" Sylvester asked, curiously and anxiously.
"I saw it in the news, she's coming back home with a man, his name is Troy, she's wedded with him" Lincoln muttered, expecting Sylvester to frown and look sad, but he smirked instead.
"He can't be a threat, even if Libianca won't accept me, I'll murder him and make him know no one touches
"What's in the letter?" He asked, not ready to open it himself. The messenger opened it himself, he briefed the letter to check what message the sender wanted to pass through the letter.
"Well, I think the Dark Moon Pack had turned out of the war, they have also withdrew their warriors away from our border." The messenger spoke happily. He smiled.
A smirk escaped from Sean's mouth, it was focussed on his left lips. He went back inside as he put off his clothe, he heard a noise from the room. It was clear and audible that it was from Carmen.
He rushed to the room and saw blood on her, his eyeballs turned red with a slight tear in them. He rushed out to call the doctor.
••••••
Vida opened the door softly, and closed it back without making any noise, except the little creaking voice of the door iron side.
"I heard you back out from the war with Storm Pack. Is there any reason for that?" Vida asked as she place her hands on his shoulder, massaging it softly. She wanted to know if he had given up on Carmen.
"My father disapproved it. He also threatened me with my rightful position." Vida felt disappointed, though she was happy that Khan may never get to her again since he won't want to forfeit the Alpha position.
"So, what's your plans? Do you still intend to look for her?" Vida asked, her expression filled with curiosity.
"Of course, once I've successfully being installed as the Alpha, I would surely wage war against storm pack." He growled, his face filled with determination. "But why did you come back? I insulted you and called you trash, why did you come to meet me still?" Khan asked as he turned around. Vida lowered her head as she took away her palms away from his shoulder.
"Because I love you, and I can't leave you. The thought of you choosing someone else as your Luna is driving me crazy," She sobbed softly as she spoke the words in her heart.
"Do you intent to stay because you want to be a Luna or because you love me?" He inquired, a smirk escaped Vida's lips.
"When I first met you and you told me you love me, I fell in love with you too but my father's intention was to make me become your Luna." Her words seemed sincere, he stared at her soaked eyeballs.
"Really? But how can I ignore my mate who has my babies and make you my Luna? That's pretty impossible." His words were a sharp knife piercing her softly heart slowly. With the thought of it, she felt like ripping Carmen to pieces.
"Have been with you for years, how can someone whom you just spent not more than one months with stole your heart away from me. You have to reconsider this, I've been with you through thick and thin." She broke down in tears as she spoke, her voice shaking visibly.
"You were never my mate, I just used you in case of incasity since you are the daughter of the Alpha of Blood Moon Pack." Khan growled, trying to bring her to her senses.
"I don't care, I can just forgive you for that. Do you really think I can survive without you?" She asked, her whole face spoiled with tears.
"The only reason why I'm still letting you here is not because the current Luna and Alpha wants you to stay, but because I've not brought my mate here." Khan said firmly not thinking about the pain it would cause her.
"Then, if that's so, I'll make sure in my power not to make you bring her here." She wiped up her tears as she spoke bravely.
•••••••
"What happened to her? Is she sick badly?" Sean asked curiously. His eyeballs almost piercing through the doctor's body.
"Well, it's not about sickness. I think she's worrying too much and it has affected the foetus in her, that was what caused the bleeding." The doctor explained briefly.
"Oh, so she had miscarriage?" He asked worriedly.
"Miscarriage?" Carmen asked, her voice weak and faint. She was listening to their discussions pretending to be unconscious at the moment.
"It could have led to miscarriage if you hadn't noticed her as earlier as this, but she must keep using the drugs I gave her to prevent miscarriage." He explained further trying to let them understand him well.
"So... The foetus is still active presently? And nothing else would happen?" Sean inquired trying to be really sure of the message the doctor was trying to pass.
"That is if you follow the procedures of the drugs I gave you. With that, everything would surely be fine." The doctor responded, and with a bow he left the room leaving Sean and Carmen all alone.
"It seems like you've been worrying too much, are you worried about me or Khan?" Sean asked, hoping for a positive answer.
"Khan is my mate and also the father of my babies, that cannot be changed." Carmen replied bravely, not thinking of how he would be hurt. "But you -- " Sean cuts in.
"What about me? You have no place for me in your heart? I'm willing to sacrifice my strength and the lives of many warriors just to protect you, yet you tell me you still love that fool." He was getting emotional as he spoke.
"I told you to free me because I didn't want any bloodshed because of me. And who told you you had no place in my heart? He may be my mate but you're the one I love." Carmen's words brought his energy back little by little.
"Then why are you choosing him over me? Because he is your mate?" He bolted angrily.
"No, it was just to --- " Sean didn't bother hearing the rest of her words, he dashed out and met Nina at the door eavesdropping at their conversation. He glared at her angrily become going on to his initial destination.
"Did you say something to upset him? Why is his face all red?" Nina asked as she sat. She was trying to eavesdrop on their conversation earlier, but yet she didn't get to hear anything.
"That..? I was just telling to free me to be go back to meet Khan rather than him waging war against them." Carmen replied, her head lowered with regret.
"Gosh? How could you say that to your helper? Besides, can't you see right in his eyes that he loves you?" Nina asked, she thought her friend was stupid, she wished she was thrown into this kind of opportunity. She would grab it with full force.
"I'm sorry, Nina, but I just don't see it," Carmen said, a little frustrated. "I appreciate Sean's help, but I don't think there's anything more to it than that." Nina shook her head.
"You're blind, Carmen. You can't see what's right in front of you. He's head over heels for you. And it's so obvious!"
Carmen sighed.
"I'm not interested in a relationship right now. I'm just trying to get my life back on track. I love him, but I have a mate and I'm pregnant for him." Nina frowned.
"But what if love is the thing that could help you do that?"
"That's ridiculous!" Carmen said, her frustration getting the better of her. "Love isn't some magical solution to all my problems. It's not going to fix everything that's wrong in my life." Nina's expression softened.
"No, it won't. But it could make things a little better. Maybe having someone to lean on, someone who cares about you, could help you deal with the stress and uncertainty of starting over."
Carmen looked at her friend, her skepticism giving way to curiosity.
"Are you sure you're not just projecting here?"
Nina laughed. "I might be a little bit! But that doesn't mean I'm wrong. Have you ever considered the possibility that you're actually the one who's projecting? That you're afraid to let yourself be happy, so you're using 'getting your life back on track' as an excuse to avoid love?"
Carmen opened her mouth to argue, but no words came out. She considered what Nina had said, and realized there might be some truth to it. Maybe she was using her struggles as an excuse to keep her heart closed off.
"I know it's scary," Nina said softly. "Opening yourself up to love means risking getting hurt. But what if it's worth it? What if you could find happiness with someone who cares about you?" Carmen took a deep breath, considering her friend's words.
"What if it doesn't work out?" she asked, her voice small. "What if I end up even more broken than I am now?"
"That's always a possibility," Nina said, "but what if it does work out?"
"What if you find someone who makes you feel whole again?" Nina continued. "Someone who supports you and makes you feel safe and loved. Wouldn't that be worth the risk?" Carmen bit her lip, unsure how to answer. She wanted to say no, but something inside her wanted to say yes. She had spent so long feeling alone and lost, and the idea of finding love and belonging was more tempting than she wanted to admit.
"I don't know," she said finally. "I'm not sure I'm ready for that."
They both managed to escape from the guards lurking around, they got into a forest leading to the exit of the pack. But they weren't thinking of eloping.
"This place is special," Nina said, turning to face Carmen. "I've always felt a sense of peace here. Like I can leave my worries behind and just be in the moment."
"I can see why you like it here," Carmen said, smiling. "It's a beautiful place. And it's nice to be away from the city, away from the noise and the chaos."
Nina nodded.
"It's like a little oasis of calm," she said. "A place where we can just be ourselves."
"I'm glad we're here together," Nina said, looking at her friend. "You've been through so much lately, and I just want you to know that I'm here for you, no matter what. You can always talk to me, about anything."
Carmen's eyes welled up with tears, and she threw her arms around Nina in a tight hug. "Thank you," she said, her voice catching in her throat. "I don't know what I would do without you."
"You don't have to worry about that," Nina said, hugging her back.
As the two friends were talking, a gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the trees around them. Carmen looked up, and something caught her eye. She gasped, and her eyes widened in surprise. A large silver wolf stood a few feet away from them, its fur shimmering in the sunlight. Its eyes were a deep blue, and they seemed to hold a kind of otherworldly wisdom.
Nina followed Carmen's gaze, and her mouth dropped open. "Is that a...?" she started to say, her words trailing off as she stared at the wolf.
The wolf's tail wagged slightly, and it stepped forward, its paws barely making a sound as they touched the ground. It came to a stop a few feet away from Carmen and Nina, and they could feel its gentle, calming presence. The wolf bowed its head, as if in greeting, and then slowly, its form began to shift and change.
In its place stood a tall, lean man with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. He was smiling, and his face was warm and kind. It was unmistakably Khan.
