Chapter 20: I wonder if he's okay

Amelia's Pov

The test result came out positive.

Isla is indeed pregnant.

I was a little disappointed but it didn't affect me much because I had already made peace with the fact that she was expecting Zane's child, my doubts only started to rise yesterday when I saw those test strips.

Doubts which have now been cleared.

Zane didn't come back home last night because of the mission and he still wasn't back yet. So I and Shawna made plans to do some girly shopping.

It was Shawna's idea because she wanted me to do something that would distract me from the situation with Isla and the pregnancy test I had Steven carry out.

I turned on the shower and exhaled softly as the warm water touched my skin, slowly running down my body.

After almost half an hour of my “everything bath”, which is when I use all my skincare and body care products. I came out of the shower with my skin feeling like that of a newborn child and sat down in front of my dresser.

The scent of coconut and vanilla filled the air as I applied my body lotion, hydrating my already soft and delicate skin.

Then I put on my pink bathrobe and went to my mirror to do my hair.

I was going to just let it fall over my shoulders but I had a last-minute idea of tying it up in a messy bun.

My hair was wavy so tying it up in a bun was super easy and didn't take much time.

I didn't want to do too much on my face so I applied just concealer and a pea-sized amount of pink shade blush paired with a pink lip tint gloss.

I picked up my dress and placed it on my body to see if it complimented my hair and my makeup.

It was a pink sundress with floral designs all over it.

I took several steps back from the mirror so I could get a full view of myself and I was pleased with the look I put together.

My brown hair complimented my pink dress and my pink-themed makeup. I looked like I had been dipped in a jar of pink paint and I loved it.

I looked like a princess.

I put on my nude Prada embellished leather mules and a brown purse to match before spraying my vanilla body mist and perfume.

I stood for a couple of seconds tapping my fingers on my chin and staring at the ceiling, trying to juggle my brain if I was forgetting anything, but I wasn't.

So I made my way downstairs to meet up with Shawna.

“Ameliaaaa!!!” Shawna yelled immediately she laid her eyes on me.

“Do you have to outdress me all the time,” she added, as she walked around me staring at me from head to toe.

“I'm not out-dressing you, you just don't put in much effort,” I chuckled.

Shawna had always been laid back about her looks, she was a natural beauty so she never cared about makeup.

Her outfits were always black or black-coded, and she only wore dresses on special occasions.

We were like the opposite of each other.

“Amy, you smell so good, like a vanilla cake, and you look like a Disney princess,” Shawna complimented.

“I know right, that's the inspo behind my look.” I was smiling from ear to ear, it felt so good for my effort to be noticed.

“I really wish Zane could see me dressed like this.”

“He would fall for you all over again.”

Shawna's words made me blush really hard, the thought of Zane sent a flurry of butterflies floating through my heart.

I wonder if he's okay.

Shawna and I hadn't heard from Zane and Elias since they left, I was a little worried but Shawna wasn't fazed. She was one hundred percent confident that they were doing just fine.

“When do you think they'll be back?” I asked Shawna, but she just shrugged her shoulders.

“Stop worrying about them. Can we leave now?” Shawna said, gesturing towards the door.

I rolled my eyes and was about to make my way outside when I heard the sound of cars pulling into the driveway.

“Is that….?”

“They're here!” Shawna cut me off.

I immediately opened the door and sped towards the car with the biggest smile, a smile which slowly faded the closer I got to the car.

There were bullet holes in the sides of all the cars.

It was obvious something went wrong.

Zane said they were just going to fire some shots in the air and drive off. Then how did the cars sustain this much damage?

I tried to figure out the car Zane was in but it was to no avail because the glasses were tinted.

So I stood there with Shawna, a restless energy burning under my skin as we waited, several feet away from the parked cars. My heart kept pounding in both anticipation and suspense.

The front doors of the last car swung open. Elias stepped out first from the driver's seat, and before I could react, Shawna ran straight into his arms, holding him tight.

I barely noticed them. My focus was on the other side of the car. I stretched, straining to see who was getting out of the passenger's seat.

The second I recognized him, a wave of relief crashed over me.

Zane.

He walked over to the front of the car, his gaze cast downward, his expression was blank and unreadable, but I could see it.

I could see the overbearing weight pressing down on him, the tension in his movements. Something was wrong. He wasn’t okay.

“Zane”

I called out his name in almost a whisper but he caught it.

He immediately lifted his head and the moment his gaze landed on me, his expression changed.

The hardness in his face melted away, replaced by something else, replaced by a loving warmth, and his eyes lit up.

“Amelia”

I took to my heels and ran to him, throwing my arms around his neck as he pulled me close, his hands tightening around my waist, holding and embracing me like he never wanted to let go.

We stayed like that for some moments, wrapped in each other’s warmth, neither of us willing to let go.

Then I pulled away slightly, we were still in an embrace but my face was a couple of inches in front of his.

“Are you okay?” I whispered, staring directly into his eyes, and he just forced a smile and nodded his head.

“Baby you look so beautiful and you smell so sweet,” he brushed his hands on my cheek, smiling softly.

“let's go inside.”

We both went back into the house with Shawna and Elias while the other men went to their apartment building that was a stone's throw from our home.

I sat on the armrest of the couch Zane was sitting on and his left arm went around my waist, resting on my thighs.

While Elias and Shawna sat opposite us.

“We've been able to figure out that things didn't exactly go as planned, but when are you guys going tell us what actually happened,” Shawna said, folding her arms as her gaze moved simultaneously between Zane and Elias.

“We might have underestimated Damian,” Elias spoke first.

“He saw through our plan,” Zane's voice followed.

“How?” I questioned, and Elias replied.

“We don't know. He killed Luke.”

I gasped, covering my mouth as I tried to process what I just heard.

How could Damian do that to him, he isn't even who he's after and he definitely isn't going to gain anything from killing Luke so why did he do it?

“He beheaded him and stuck his head on a spike,” Elias added.

I immediately felt chills going down my spine, why would Damian do such a gruesome thing?

“Why would he do that to him?” I questioned, even though I wasn't expecting an answer.

“Because he's a twisted psychopath,” Zane groaned.

“And I'm going to kill him."

I could see the raw and dangerous anger seeping through his eyes as the words left his mouth.

His fists curled into a ball, his knuckles turning white as rage burned through him. His jaw tightened, every breath a struggle to keep himself from snapping.

I couldn't even interfere.

As much as I didn't want Zane going around killing people, Damian deserved whatever was coming to him.

“We were outnumbered yesterday when Damian's men shot at us. We were lucky enough to make it out alive, but unfortunately, we lost 5 men.” Elias spoke.

“We saw Damian like a mere housefly, just a little inconvenience, too small to matter, but he’s not just that. He’s a dagger aimed straight at our backs,” he added

Zane sat up in his chair, with his hands still on my thighs and he looked up at me.

“This is no longer just about loosening Damian's hold on you, It's not just about getting Damian to forget about you.”

Then he turned his gaze to Elias.

“He has crossed the line, and he has to be eliminated.”

His voice rang with finality.

Then my phone pinged, his did too.

Then Shawna's and Elias's phones lit up.

“Are you guys seeing this?” I asked, still staring at my phone.

“Not again,” Elias sighed.
