Chapter 110: Sleep began to pull at her.

“Y-YOU’VE BEEN here long?” she asked, slowly moving to sit up, carefully, so she wouldn’t wake Mirielle.

“Just got here,” he replied.

She glanced back at their daughter, who was still sound asleep beside her.

She tried to reach for her crutch, but it was too far. BK took it instead. She didn’t resist when he helped her down.

“Emmanuel has already left. He told me to let you know once you woke up.”

Guilt tugged at her. She’d fallen asleep on him earlier and didn’t even get to thank him.

“Okay. The couch, please,” she said to her husband.

BK guided her to the couch. He was about to walk away when she spoke again.

“Let’s talk, BK. About Mirielle. H-how is she alive? You said you handled everything yourself. Now she’s alive. Has this been your secret all along? Tell me the truth, BK.”

BK sat beside her, head down. “It was Amber who discovered she was alive. She was at the hospital the same day your mom was transferred to Palawan. She overheard Max’s twin ordering two men to bury the baby alive. She didn’t know how our daughter survived either. But she paid those men a huge sum to give the child to her. She never told them she knew me. She convinced them and transferred the baby here to CMC. She really planned to use our daughter to win me over, and she succeeded.”

“I-I don’t know whether to thank her or not, BK. Our daughter’s alive, but she put us, me—through hell! The pain you both caused me…” she choked back a sob. “Just because you brought my daughter back doesn’t mean I’ll forgive you. Not yet, BK. Why did you have to lie to me?”

BK pulled her close and hugged her tightly. “I’m sorry for the pain I caused.” She felt him kiss her hair. “I know ‘sorry’ isn’t enough, but it’s all I’ve got for now. I won’t make promises, but I’ll do everything I can not to mess up again, baby. I’ll accept the child you’re carrying too. Just… please don’t leave me, baby.”

She pulled away from him. “Are you doubting me? You think the baby I’m carrying isn’t yours?” Her voice rose, and she glanced at their daughter, who remained asleep.

“B-baby… the child you’re carrying is ours?” he said, his face lighting up.

“What do you think I am, a flirt like you? God, BK! You’re going to drive me insane with everything you’ve done!” She leaned back against the couch and glared at him.

“I’m sorry. I-I just thought…”

“Whatever, BK! Don’t compare me to you. Get lost! You’re not funny.” He stood and walked to their daughter.

Was it right for him to doubt her?

She suddenly remembered something and looked back at her husband, who was now gently kissing their child.

“Why haven’t you taken the baby out of the hospital if she’s already okay?” There were no tubes attached. She looked strong and healthy, like she was born full-term.

BK looked at her.

“Because I wanted both of us to bring her home. I was hoping I’d find you in time.”

She pressed her lips together at his words. So he really had been looking for her.

“Who’s been watching her here?”

“If not Mama, then Papa. I’ve been too busy looking for you.”

“So tomorrow, we can finally take her home? It’s too cold out now.”

“You’re coming home too?” There was something in his smile, and she shot him a look.

“I’m coming home for our daughter, not for you. Earn back my trust first after all the lies.”

“I will, baby. Thank you, baby. Thank you,” he said, still smiling.

The next day, they brought Mirielle home. Only her father came with them, so she asked her husband once they arrived at the house.

“Why didn’t your mom come?”

“She’s at home. She didn’t want to face you after what happened. Says her conscience is eating her,” he replied while fixing their daughter’s blanket.

She sighed. “I don’t hold anything against your mom. I’m not angry. I don’t even blame her. She had no fault in what happened, BK.”

“I’ll call her later. You know how dramatic Mom is now that she’s getting older,” he joked.

She smacked him playfully for saying that. He tried to catch her hand, but she pulled it away.

“We’re not yet okay, BK.”

“Yeah. I said, I know. I miss you, though.”

That was just like BK, teasing, even if things weren’t okay.

He took care of the house for now since they hadn’t found a housekeeper yet. They didn’t want to bother the nanny either because she was busy watching over the baby. Her leg wasn’t fully healed yet, so she still couldn’t stand for long. It would give out easily.

That night was their first as a complete family. She allowed them to sleep together in one room. Mirielle was between them.

They both stared at the ceiling in silence, unable to sleep. She wasn’t used to this yet.

“How was life in that faraway place?” BK asked, so she looked at him.

“It was okay. Quiet, but peaceful. Strange at first, but I adjusted. In those four months, I got used to sleeping early since there was nothing else to do. We ate everything fresh.”

“Okay. As for me, it was miserable. I could barely sleep when I was home. Everywhere I looked, I saw you. I felt like I was going crazy, so I slept beside Mirielle instead. I kept myself busy at work, but it didn’t help. I still saw you. That’s why I did everything to find you.”

Silence followed.

“You know what, baby? My world fell apart when you said you didn’t know me. And that you thought Emmanuel was your husband. It hurt like hell seeing my wife with someone else. And then to find out you were pregnant. I finally understood how you felt when you found out Amber was carrying my child. It hurt so damn much, baby. Thank God it wasn’t true.”

She felt his hand reach for hers, then rest on her belly. Sleep began to pull at her.
