Chapter 154: Moonlight

ALLISON.

Then Mason’s wolf form crashed into him, teeth sinking into the vampire’s throat. Blood sprayed as he tossed the limp body aside and ran faster.

“Mason!” I was relieved that he took care of that last minute.

Just when I thought that we could finally escape, Valentina’s figure emerged from one of the trees.

“You didn’t really thought you could get away, right?” she mocked.

Fuck!

She ran alongside us, eyes gleaming in the dark. Mason tried to attack her but she just snappily avoided every attack as she kept up our pace. Her crimson eyes drifted to me.

“You’re making a mistake by running away, Allison. You shouldn’t escape your destiny,” she said while running to my right side to avert Mason’s attack. Daniel ran to the opposite direction to keep our distance from her.

“Fuck off!” I yelled at her, clutching the wooden stake in my hand.

“You don’t realize what you are, Allison,” she muttered again.

I tightened my grip on Amaris. “And what’s that?”

“The key to absolute immortality! With your power, you can resurrect our elders. Only a strong descendant of the dragonblood can do that,” she purred.

I spat at the ground. “So that’s what you want? To use me as some kind of resurrection tool?”

Valentina’s smile turned razor-sharp. “Oh, you’ll be more than that.”

Just when Mason was about to charge at her again, Valentina raised her hand and suddenly, a powerful force radiated from her hand, blasting Mason off the ground.

“What the…”

It was like a piercing resonance, it created a ripple of force accompanied by a very loud sound it made my head spin. Valentina pointed her hand at Daniel next. It released another powerful resonance, so powerful it knocked Daniel off his feet. I flew off his back, tumbling hard against the ground. Amaris let out a wail, but I curled around her, taking the brunt of the impact.

“Shit, Ami…” I wrapped my arms around her, trying to hush her down when she started crying again.

What the hell was that power? It felt like a powerful soundwave that made my head dizzy in a few moments, and it also emitted a powerful force enough to knock everyone on sight.

Valentina strode forward, smug.

I realized in that moment that she wasn’t no ordinary vampire. Now, I understood why she was a higher up from a powerful vampire coven. She was very powerful herself.

Daniel snarled when he recovered and lunged at Valentina, but the vampire caught him by the neck, releasing powerful vibration through his skin until he whimpered from the pain.

“No, Daniel!”

Daniel’s wolf form dropped limply to the ground, his body paralyzed. I was panting hard, my hands shaking as I staggered back. Mason forced himself to stand next. He leaped in front of me to block her. She barely glanced at him before simply swiping her hand, blasting him away with a flick of her wrist.

“Mason!” I screamed as his wolf form smashed against a tree, toppling it down.

“You’ve been a pain in my ass, Mason,” Valentina sneered, pulling out a silver dagger. “It’s time you get what you deserve.”

She raised the dagger and walked towards Mason, about to stab him.

“NO!” I screamed.

Then, a massive bluish-gray wolf lunged from behind Valentina, catching her off-guard. It sinked its teeth around her shoulder and neck, cracking her bones.

River!

Valentina screamed as he tore into her. Valentina desperately stretched out her hands, summoning her resonance power once again but it was blocked when River unfurled the familiar crimson fog from his body. The mist wrapped around them, trapping Valentina as he ripped her apart.

“AHH!” Valentina screamed as the crimson fog licked on her skin. I saw how every inch of her skin that the fog touched had turned pale, paler than her usual skin as if the fog was absorbing all her power.

I watched, breathless, as River annihilated her with his powerful fog and the sharpness of his teeth, tearing into her skin. And right then, I was awe at how powerful River actually was.

After defeating Valentina, Wesley and Liam finished off the remaining vampire armies who were chasing after us. It was easier as soon as their leader was gone. Once they chased down every last one of them, Wesley gave the go signal to continue our way to the other side of the forest.

“We need to keep going. It’s not safe to stay in the middle of the forest any longer,” he declared.

I rode on Daniel’s back again. He had already recovered from Valentina’s earlier attack but I could see some scars around his neck. I softly caressed it as he strode through the forest, his paws pounding the earth. I clutched Amaris tightly to my chest, feeling her small body tremble against me. She had been so brave, but I knew the chaos and bloodshed were too much for her.

Around us, the others ran in their wolf forms. Mason’s silver fur shimmered under the moonlight, River's bluish coat danced with the wind, Liam’s green eyes burned with unrelenting rage, Wesley's golden form stayed close to Quinn, who ran with an urgency I had never seen before.

The battle with the vampires had left us weary but victorious. Their forces had been crushed, their bodies littering the battlefield we left behind. But we had no time to celebrate. We were supposed to meet reinforcements at the edge of the forest, a safe spot where we could regroup. But as we neared the clearing, a sickening scent filled the air, one that made my stomach turn.

Death. I knew that scent very well.

Daniel slowed, his body tensing beneath me as we emerged from the trees. My heart dropped into my stomach as my eyes scanned the clearing. The supposed safe spot was now littered with bodies of werewolves who were supposed to be our reinforcements.

Wesley stared in pure horror at the display of corpses that painted the ground.
