Chapter 71

Chapter 71

Adrian

Rayna had just left to go see Hendrick. I was in my office with Armin. He was showing me everything he found linking my mother and the teacher to Zaya’s condition.

“Is this everything?”

“Yes, Boss.”

“Okay, we’ll hand them over to the police. What did she do?”

“Boss…” He looked terrified.

“Spill it, Armin. I would let it slide, but she’s pregnant, and that means none of her crazy antics.”

“Well, I got some of the same poison and …. Well… he was hesitating; did they do some illegal shit?

“We broke into their place.” The words came out in a rush.

“You did what?” I asked.

“Ms. Mira, The madam, Rob, and I broke into the teacher's place. There is no evidence that we were there. The Madam knocked her out. We tied her to the bed and rubbed the same poison onto her skin. We did the same to your mother,” he said.

I began rubbing my temple. This fucking woman was insane. “And?” I asked, knowing there would be more.

“We left them there until the next morning. She used different types of poison so it would take effect faster and leave permanent scars,” he said.

“You and… you… You know what? Forget I asked. Just keep her ass out and away from trouble for the next nine months.”

“Yes, boss.”

After he left, I sat there at a loss. This woman was going to stress me the fuck out. How does she even fucking manage to persuade these two men into doing this shit, even Mira? I need to put her ass on a leash because if she had her way, then she would go around Terrendale causing trouble, and Rob and Armin would be behind her.

As I sat in the living room watching Zaya coloring in her book, I couldn’t help but wonder what would have happened if she hadn’t returned to Terrendale? She said it herself: she had no intention of ever coming back. It was because of their business that she came. If she never came back here, I would have never known about Zaya. She would have continued to believe I had used her, and I, along with everyone, would still be miserable.

“Daddy?”

“Yes, princess?”

“Can we go on a picnic?” she asked.

“We can, but you need to get better first, okay? As soon as the doctor says you’re better, we’ll go on a picnic.”

“Promise?”

“I promise, princess.”

I left Zaya with Mira and the others and left. I headed straight to the police station. When I walked in, the officers stopped and looked at me. It was unusual for someone like me to walk into a police station. I walked over to one of the officers.

“Ah… umm... Mr. Wolfe, what can I assist you with?” he asked nervously.

“I need to file a report, and I want the individuals arrested and charged.”

“Of course, please follow me this way; the lieutenant will be with you shortly,” he said, leading me over to a room. About five minutes later Lieutenant Marcs walked in and sat down. He was an older man, probably in his forties, now graying.

“Mr. Wolfe, what seems to be the problem?” he asked.

I put the file down in front of him. He opened it and began reading. He looked up at me and then continued reading. After he finished, he picked up the phone from the desk.

“Rogers, take backup with you, Pick up Susan Wolfe and Grace Harrington. Yes, two cars, now.”

He put down the phone and looked at me. “How is your daughter now?” he asked.

“She’s on the mend; Dr. Petra has prescribed medicine and ointment for her.”

“Okay, that’s good. I just don’t get why people go after innocent children. They’ll be brought in and charged. I will keep you updated on the progress,” he said.

I stood up and shook his hand, thanking him, and then left. When I got home, she was just returning home. I checked the time; it was almost one.

“And where are you coming from?” she asked as she leaned against the car looking at me.

Police station. Have you had lunch?”

“Nope, my stomach can’t handle it,” she said, making a face.

“Okay, how did it go?”

“Smooth. Hendrick is good to go; in a few days he’ll be out of Terrendale for good. He asked for some of the documents to help him speed up the divorce process, so I gave them to him,” she said.

“Okay, let’s go. We’re going to the doctor, and Rayna, I swear to God, if I have to keep your ass pregnant to stop you from doing shit, then I will. You broke into….”

“I’m going to kill him. Who told you?” she asked.

I grabbed her and turned her towards the car. “You’re not doing shit to anybody. Let’s go.”

We both saw the car coming in. When the car stopped, my father stepped out. He looked at me and then at Rayna.

“What the …” Rayna grabbed my hand, cutting me off. I looked at her, and she shook her head no. I looked at the man that was my father; somehow, he looked older, as if he had aged overnight.

“What can we do for you, Ian?” Rayna asked, looking at him.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Rayna. I should have asked, I should have tried to find out, and I should have trusted what I was told. I was consumed with anger and hatred; I shouldn’t have listened to Xander and Clarence. I took it out on the wrong people. Adrian, I’m sorry I wasn’t the father you deserved or the father you should have had. I hurt everyone, I pushed everyone away, and now I have no one.”

“I’m happy that you settled down with the right person for you. I’m happy that you haven’t followed in my footsteps and that you have a woman that loves you and will be loyal to you. Tell your grandfather I’m sorry. I’m sorry for what I said and for the way I reacted.” He said,

“You won’t see me again. I am not the man that my father wanted me to be. I sold the house; I’m leaving Terrendale. Staying here will only remind me of how wrong I was and how I was lied to. Take care of yourself and your family. Take care of your grandfather.” He said, "Get back into the car and leave."

“He regrets what he did and said; now that everything is out in the open, he truly regrets it. He’ll come around; someday when he’s learned to live with himself, you’ll see him again,” Rayna said from beside me.
