Chapter 59

Rayna

I stood looking at him.

“I mean it, Rayna, nothing changes.” He said, and I heard it in his voice; he meant it. The thought crossed my mind, and I felt repulsed instantly. I guess he saw the look on my face because he was looking at me.

“What is it?” He asked.

“What if we’re...” I couldn’t bring myself to say it.

“We’re what?” He asked.

“What if we’re half-siblings?” I said. I could feel the bile rising in my throat.

“No. No fucking way. That’s not possible; stop thinking that shit.” He said, and I knew he didn’t like that thought one bit.

“Rayna, no, look at me.”

I turned and looked at him. He walked around the desk and came to me. “No, love, I don’t think so. Maybe our fathers aren’t really our fathers, but what I am absolutely sure of is that we are not related. Okay, now why don’t you go grab a shower? I’ll be up in a minute.” He said, caressing my face.

“Okay.”

I left him and headed upstairs. As I was at the top of the stairs, I saw Cassidy walking into Zaya’s room. I hurried up the stairs and opened the door, and she jumped.

“Oh god, Mrs. Wolfe, you scared me.” She said, pressing her hand to her chest.

“What are you doing in here?” I asked, my tone making it clear.

“Oh, sorry, I went to the washroom, and as I was coming back, I heard crying, so I came to check on her.” She said, looking at Zaya asleep in bed.

“She doesn’t cry in the night. There is also a camera over there that shows live footage that is linked to mine, my husband’s, and Mira’s phones. If she were awake, we would know.” I said, lying.

“Oh, I wasn’t aware. I just heard what sounded like crying and thought it was here and came to check, but I see she’s sleeping comfortably. I wonder who was crying.” She said, but I didn’t reply.

“Anyway, have a good night, Mrs. Wolfe. I’ll head to bed now.” She said, making towards the door.

“You’re spending the night?” I asked, and she smiled.

“Yes, I am. Good night, Mrs. Wolfe.” She said, walking out.

I wasn’t leaving Zaya alone in her room tonight. I walked over to the bed, pulled the covers away, and picked her up. When I walked out of the room, Adrian was just coming up the stairs. When he saw me, he hurried up the stairs and took her from me. “What happened?”

“Nothing, just take her into our room. She’ll sleep with us tonight.” I said, opening the door and letting him walk in first. As I was about to walk into our room, Mira’s room door opened, and Cassidy walked out and went back to the bathroom. She smiled at me. I walked into the room and closed the door, locking it.

“Love, what’s going on?” I explained what happened to him.

“I don’t trust her, Adrian. I really don’t.”

“Armin should have her details soon, and we’ll figure out exactly who she is and what her intentions are.” He said, covering Zaya.

Adrian

What the fuck was this girl up to now? On one side was my demented ass family, on the other side was her fucked-up family, and now a crazy woman was thrown into it. I lay there and let my mind wander. Was it possible that our fathers weren’t really our fathers?

Why couldn’t these damn men and women stay fucking loyal? When the sun rose, I still hadn’t slept a wink. Zaya woke up first, and then Rayna. One look at me and Rayna knew I hadn’t slept. “We’ll figure it out.” She said it quietly, and I nodded. After breakfast, I was in my office with the old man. I told him everything Rayna said that her father said.

“And now you want to find out if Ian really is your father?” He asked quietly.

“Yes, and Rayna will do the same.”

“Very well then. Let me know when you are ready.” He said. After he left, Rayna came in and took a seat.

“I’m going to visit Camry and get some samples. I do think... well, there's only one way to find out if we have the same father. I believe Henry is her father.” She said quietly.

“And you?” I asked. “I don’t know.” She said it quietly, and I knew she was hurt.

Rayna

Today was Sunday. I left Zaya with Adrian and the others. Cassidy wasn’t there. She left after breakfast. When I walked into the penitentiary, I could tell Camry was surprised to see me. She looked past me, probably expecting her parents, but I didn’t let them know I was coming here. I didn’t bother sitting down.

“How did I do?” She asked in that smug way of hers.

“Excellent. Are you sure Henry is your father?” I asked, and she looked confused.

“Of course, he is.” She said with a laugh.

“I don’t think so. I want to get a DNA test done.”

“Will this help in getting me out?” She asked hesitantly.

“Yes, Camry.” I said, lying through my teeth.

“Fine. What do you need?”

“I need a few strands of your hair, preferably with the hair follicle.” I said. She pulled a few of her hairs out and handed them to me. I put them in a Ziploc bag.

“What is the next part of the plan?” She asked.

“Well, as of this moment, I have the lawyer working on your appeal. I’ll deal with Missy, Sandy, and Cassy soon. Xavier and Clarence are going to jail. I’ll send the next task to your mother, and she’ll let you know what to do.”

“Sure.”

When I got back into the car, I looked at Rob. “Rob, I need samples from Susan, Ian, and my mother for a DNA test.”

“Ian is no problem. Master Manfred will be the same. I can get your mother’s and father’s later this afternoon.” He said.

“Okay, and Rob, this will be done apart from the others that Adrian and I will be doing. I don’t trust Ian, nor my mother. They’ll eventually find out about the DNA test and can interfere. I don’t want them to interfere in this one.”

“No one will be aware, Mrs. Wolfe.” He said.

When I got back home, it was almost one. I found Zaya in the living room playing with her toys. Aunt Lisa and Aunt Miriam were in the living room relaxing, and Grandfather was in his chair reading.

“Mommy, am I going to school tomorrow?” Zaya asked.

“Yes, you are. We need to get your uniform. Mommy will take a shower, and we’ll be leaving soon.”

“Okay.” She replied and went back to playing.

“Is the school okay for her, Rayna?” Aunt Lisa asked.

“Yes, it is. Mira and I checked it out, and I already spoke to the principal.”

I headed up to our room and grabbed a quick shower. When I came out, Adrian was there.

“I’m heading over to do the DNA test.” He said quietly.
