Chapter 64: Betrayals Like This
DAMON
We were back from the restaurant, and Cupcake was already fast asleep, curled up in our bed like an angel. I slowly slipped out of her arms, careful not to wake her. She looked so fucking peaceful lying there, her hair spread across the pillow like silk, her lips slightly parted as she breathed softly.
For a moment, I just watched her. This beautiful, innocent girl had no idea that the man she was falling for was about to go hunt down a traitor and probably spill blood before the night was over.
I leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, breathing in her sweet scent one last time before pulling away completely. She needed to stay in this circle of safety I'd created for her.
She stirred for a moment, her hands reaching out to grab my pillow, hugging it close to her chest like she was trying to hold onto me even in sleep. I couldn't help but smile at the sight.
Grabbing my phone from the nightstand, I headed for the door, my expression immediately shifting from tender lover to ruthless mafia boss.
But I wasn't that yet.
Time to get to work. Tonight was going to change everything, and by morning, there would be one less snake in my organization.
"Carlo, what's the update?"
I asked as I stepped outside the mansion. Carlo was waiting with a few of my men beside two black vans and my armored Prado. The night air was crisp, carrying the scent of impending violence.
"We're waiting for your command to move, boss."
He said, and I nodded, scanning the faces around me. My trusted men, my loyal soldiers. Men who would die for me without question. And somewhere among them, a fucking traitor.
Someone who'd been feeding information to my enemies, someone who'd been playing both sides while sitting at my table, eating my food, and taking my money. I gritted my teeth at that thought. Well, tonight it ends.
Tonight, I'd find out who. And tonight, they'd pay.
Andro stood next to Alice, both of them giving me a respectful nod as I approached. I studied Alice's face for a moment longer than usual, looking for any sign, any tell, any crack in her, but nothing.
Nothing. She looked as calm and professional as always, her dark eyes meeting mine without flinching. But then again, the best spies always did.
"Marcus is already at the warehouse."
Andro said as we got into the car. He took the driver's seat while Carlo settled beside me in the back. Alice climbed into the passenger seat, her movements smooth and professional like they'd always been. Like they'd been for the past three years she'd worked for me.
"Good. Let's move then. We can't afford to mess this up."
I said, leaning back as Andro started the engine. My hand instinctively went to the gun holstered under my jacket. Tonight, I was prepared for anything.
The car pulled away from the mansion and into the night, the city lights blurring past us. Three hundred and thirty million dollars was waiting for us at that warehouse, but that wasn't what had my full attention.
Tonight, I was hunting for a rat. And when I found them…
The warehouse was cold and empty, just how I wanted it for tonight's business. The concrete floors echoed with every footstep. Marcus was already there with his men, waiting patiently by the metal table that had been set up in the middle of the warehouse.
"Damon, good to see you made it."
Marcus stood up, extending his hand for a shake, which I took briefly. He was a legitimate businessman, clean money, clean deals. He had no idea he was about to witness bloodshed.
"Business is business, Marcus. You have the money?"
I asked, taking my seat across from him while my team positioned themselves around the room.
"Three hundred and thirty million, as agreed."
Marcus slid the briefcase across the metal table with a confident smile. I nodded, opening it to confirm the amount. Neat stacks of bills, all legitimate, all clean. Everything looked good, but tonight wasn't really about the money.
"Perfect. The documents for the four oil wells are right here."
I placed the transfer papers on the table, but I wasn't in any hurry to complete this deal. Instead, I was watching. Watching every movement, every gesture, every fucking breath from my people.
Alice shifted in her position, her hand going to her jacket pocket. I noticed her fingers tremble slightly as she pulled out her phone, glancing at the screen before quickly putting it away.
Interesting. Alice never checked her phone during business meetings. Never.
"The oil wells in Texas have been producing consistently for the past five years. Average monthly output is around two million barrels."
I continued the business talk while keeping my eyes on Alice. She was nervous, more nervous than she should be for a simple business transaction.
"That's excellent to hear. My investors will be very pleased with those numbers."
Marcus reviewed the documents while I created small delays, asking questions about payment methods, transfer timelines, and insurance policies—anything to stretch out this meeting and give my spy more time to reveal themselves.
Each time I paused the negotiations, Alice would fidget. Her hand would go to that same pocket, her eyes would dart to the windows, and she'd drum her fingers against her thigh in a very specific pattern.
Three short taps, two long ones. Three short, two long.
My blood ran cold, but I kept my expression neutral. That was a signal. A fucking signal I'd seen before, the ones I used with Ronald when I was in the Mafia game with him, and now his men use.
"Excuse me for a moment."
I stood up, walking to the window as if checking the perimeter. In the reflection of the glass, I watched Alice pull out her phone again, typing quickly with her thumbs before sliding it back into her pocket.
The same woman who had sat at my dinner table just last week. The same woman who I'd trusted with sensitive information. The same woman who Andro had been secretly dating for months, thinking I didn't know about their relationship.
Alice was the fucking spy.
"Everything alright?"
Marcus asked from behind me, concern evident in his voice.
"Just making sure we're secure. Can never be too careful in this business these days."
I sat back down, but now I was seeing everything differently. All those times Alice had volunteered for important assignments. All those meetings she'd attended. All those late nights she'd stayed behind to "finish paperwork." All that classified information she'd had access to.
She'd been feeding it all to Ronald like a good little double agent.
"So we're agreed then? The deal is acceptable to both parties?"
Marcus asked, pen ready to sign the final documents.
"Almost."
I said, leaning back in my chair, my hand casually moving closer to my weapon. That's when I heard it - the sound of multiple vehicles approaching fast outside the warehouse. Heavy engines, tires screeching, doors slamming.
Alice's eyes widened slightly, just for a fraction of a second, and I knew.
Ronald's men were here, right on schedule. Alice had been signaling them, telling them exactly when to strike, exactly when we'd be most vulnerable.
But I'd been expecting this. Planning for it. Hoping for it, even.
The warehouse doors burst open with a deafening crash, and Ronald's men flooded in like a fucking army, automatic weapons raised, screaming orders. But my real security team - the twenty men Alice didn't know about, the ones who'd been positioned outside - were already moving into position.
Gunfire erupted through the warehouse as my men engaged Ronald's crew. The sound was deafening, bullets hitting on both metals and the concrete floor. Marcus and his people dove for cover behind overturned tables while the battle engulfed us, their faces white with terror.
Through it all, I kept my eyes on Alice.
She had her gun drawn, but she wasn't shooting at Ronald's men. Instead, she was trying to maneuver toward the exit, using the chaos to help few of Ronald’s men escape when they saw my men were winning.
The bitch was still playing her role, even now.
When the shooting finally stopped, the warehouse reeked of gunpowder and blood. Ronald's men were either dead or captured, their bodies scattered across the concrete floor. Marcus and his crew were shaken but unharmed.
My team was securing the area, checking for survivors.
Alice stood frozen in the middle of it all, her weapon still in her hand, surrounded by the act she had helped orchestrate.
"Alice."
I said her name quietly, but it cut through the silence like a blade. She quickly turned to look at me, her eyes wide with shock before they were replaced with something else - something I had never seen in her before. Anger. Hatred. Vengeance.
The mask was finally off.
"Alice, what did you do?"
I asked, not moving toward her. I didn't trust any of these motherfuckers anymore, and Alice had just proven that three years of loyalty meant absolutely nothing when the right price was offered.
"Took you long enough to figure it out?"
She said, no remorse in her voice whatsoever. Like she'd been waiting for this moment, waiting for me to finally piece it all together so she could stop pretending.
"Alice, what the fuck are you doing?"
Andro screamed from across the warehouse, his face contorted with pain and anger. He looked like he'd seen a ghost, like his entire world had just collapsed around him.
"Are you blind? I've been the spy all this while, and fuck, I even dated you so you could give me information about the device. But you were useless, always hiding information from me, never fully trusting me, even in bed. Damn, Andro, you all are so loyal to…him."
She said, her voice dripping with menace and satisfaction. She was enjoying this, enjoying the pain she was causing.
"How much did he promise to pay you? How much was my trust worth, Alice?"
I asked, my voice deadly calm. Now that I'd found my spy, now that I knew who had been betraying me, I felt oddly at peace. But still in pain for losing someone so dear to me.
