Chapter 120 Diana Takes The Plot Forward
Chapter 120 Diana Takes The Plot Forward
Diana’s POV
Everything we need to do is take away what Alessandra loves most, make her feel the way we feel, and when she’s at her lowest, that’s the perfect time to strike.
To this end, the research isn’t deep on what we need to do to take down Brandon before Alessandra takes the real fall. All we have to do is use what has already toppled so many others’ favorites and announce that Brandon is guilty of it too, then let the people cancel him.
Scoff.
“You’re getting confused. Don’t be. I’ll explain thoroughly. Now, let’s go back to history,” I say to my daughter at this moment, my voice calm but laced with the cold determination that drives me. And by doing so, they both wipe their faces and grab a seat to listen to me. Thus, I begin to narrate.
Far back in history, there was this popular dancer named Micah Johnson. He dances so well on stage that people faint whenever he performs. He is regarded as the king of dance, and soon enough, he begins to sing. Everyone can’t help but see the parallels—the rise to fame, the adoration of the masses, and then the inevitable fall.
When he starts singing, he easily tops the music charts on different platforms. Now, he’s both a dancer and a singer. The world isn’t ready for his greatness. As far as music and art are concerned, he’s regarded as a king and known all over the world. But with greatness comes the envy of lesser souls. They can’t stand to see someone soar where they can only crawl.
He understands the kind of person he is; he knows his own worth. Hence, he starts wearing blinged-out, customized outfits while performing on world stages. It’s at this moment that he’s regarded as the celebrity of celebrities. But even a king can be brought down. The higher you climb, the harder you fall.
Something happens. And this makes everyone—I mean every citizen of America, the whole continent of North America, South America, Asia, the Emirate countries, Africa, every country in the world—cancel him and hate him like hell.
The accusation is that he’s involved with a child.
In his defense, it wasn’t so. The child only wanted an autograph, and he happily signed it on her shirt. But no, no one listens to him. He’s accused, and he must take the fall.
This is how the world works—one moment they love you, and the next, they turn their backs, leaving you to rot in the darkness they create.
To understand how serious a crime this is, I’ll tell you another story about another singer called K-Kenny.
As handsome as he is, K-Kenny is regarded as the number one R&B singer in the whole world. It’s not magic, but this singer’s voice could heal a broken heart when people listen to him.
It reminds me of a time when an old woman testified to how she listened to him when she was depressed, and his beautiful, sonorous voice helped heal her of her depression. Many others have come with similar stories, and before we knew it, K-Kenny was announced as the ambassador of worldwide music. But even the brightest stars are eventually snuffed out.
Little did we know that his downfall was near. Everything that brought him down was when his neighbor reported him to the authorities about his unusual relationship with children. Hence, everything he took decades to build fell like the walls of Jericho in just seconds.
And this is exactly how we’re going to bring down Brandon and destroy Alessandra without lifting a finger before we kidnap her and finally send her six feet under, where she sent my son.
“The question remains: which of you knows any active kids around here to send on this important mission?” I ask Emily and Olivia at this instance, my voice steady but charged with the weight of our shared vendetta. Hence, I see how they both rack their brains, thinking of the perfect child to send.
Needless to remind you of the neighborhood we live in, but I’m going to do it anyway.
This is a ghetto. An economically depressed urban district where only the very poor can afford to live. The kind of place where dreams die and people do whatever they can to survive—just like we’ve been forced to do.
Everyone here is poor—in fact, so poor that most of us can’t even afford a good 32-inch television. Everything we have and call a good TV is an old-fashioned set on a shelf or stool with a long antenna on top. It’s a far cry from the life we once had and from the luxury that was ripped away.
In the same way, the guys here are notorious, ready to do anything for cash. All you need to do is tell them your plan, and they’re ready—as long as you’re giving them a cut. But this time, it’s not just about the money—it’s about revenge, pure and simple.
But no, these notorious men are our backup plan. I won’t rely on them until I know Alessandra’s world is crumbling, just like mine did.
“What about Jeruel? She’s street-smart and a very good pickpocket. She’d be perfect for this task, right?” Emily suddenly says, snapping me out of my thoughts.
Hearing what Emily says, Olivia and I look at her in surprise. The question remains: why didn’t we think in that direction before? Sometimes, the simplest solutions are right in front of us, yet blinded by grief and anger, we fail to see them.
Of course, everyone knows Jeruel. She’s one of the best pickpockets in this neighborhood. If a stranger walks through here and suddenly loses their phone or purse—even when Jeruel isn’t around—we all know she’s the one who stole it, but no one gives her away. There’s a code here, a code of survival, and she’s mastered it.
Her mother is dying of an illness. They say the doctors diagnosed her with heart cancer, and they need a large sum of money to replace her heart, or she’ll die in six months.
This is why Jeruel has become more notorious for her pickpocketing, and recently we’ve even learned that she possesses a gun she uses to rob on highways at night. She’s become desperate, just like me, willing to cross any line to save the one she loves.
At all costs, she’s willing to raise the money to save her mother’s life. And you think we’ll invite her to do this task and she won’t take it personally to ensure its success? She’ll do more than just complete the task—she’ll relish it.
Scoff.
“Bring her to me. It’s time Alessandra paid for the trouble she’s caused me,” I say as I smirk, feeling a dark satisfaction settle in my bones. I know that Tyler, watching from heaven, will smile down on me and his sisters and bless the day he had me as his mother.
