Chapter Thirty Eight
Chapter Thirty Eight
Margaret Mathias.
'Margaret, Mummy is here. I just want to hear your voice; please say something.'
'Margaret,' the voice calls out again. I gently opened my eyes, my heart racing faster, my body trembling. I managed to stand on my feet as my gaze searched frantically while gasping for air.
I searched the room trying to observe where I was, and I noticed I was still in the old cage, the smell of blood lingered, and the decayed body of Bright was still on the ground.
I saw my mother leaning beside me, with warm tears slowly finding their way down her cheeks, as she stared at me with so much pain in her eyes. I was trying to hold back the pain, but I couldn't help it. I tried as much as possible to hide my emotions, but tears also followed suit, so without thinking twice, I immediately wrapped my hand around hers, clearly showing her how much she meant to me.
"Nooo..." I screamed when Bright's husband lunged at my mother, stabbing her in the back; he did that before I could react or switch positions.
My mother froze, her eyes wide in shock. I instinctively let go of my mother as she lunged at him; without thinking twice, I fought him with the remaining strength left in me. He swayed his hand randomly, clearly looking weak.
"You killed my wife; your mother killed her, and I'll never forgive you," he lets out while continuing to sway his hand. Without thinking twice, I brought out a dagger in my pocket and slid it right into his heart. I could see his sunken eyebrows and his lips drying right in front of my eyes as he fell to the ground, and then slowly I saw life slipping out of him. I felt a part of me was missing as I rushed back to my mother while hoping that she was okay. My gaze also frantically searched for Salvador; I noticed he was lying lifeless on the ground, and his face was turning pale. My body trembled in fear; my head was overwhelmed with confusing thoughts while wondering who I would run to next. I felt my heart race, my body weakening as I went to my knees. I dragged my mother's body close to that of Salvador, but he was still unmoving. I tried as much as possible to keep calm, but it was almost impossible as every second ticked. I felt my chest tighten, then Salvador's eyes slightly twitched, his hand slightly moving, but his eyes refused to fully open wide enough.
"Salvador... can you hear me?" I called out gently while hoping that his voice would be able to soothe my unsettling nerves, but nothing. There was an abrupt silence from him, which killed my last resolve.
Then I heard the voice of my wolf; it was like it was calling out to me, but it was distant, his voice calm and collected as it said, "Expose your neck to his mouth; let him mark you. Only then can you save both of them."
"But..."
"Do it now, because I'm also losing myself," my wolf scolded, yet its voice sounded calm. I gently crawled towards Salvador, leaning close to him, my neck exposed, as more tears slipped down to my temple, my hair covered his face, and then I felt his breath; it was faint, but it showed he was still alive.
"Please sink your fangs into my flesh; that's the only way we can both survive," I called out gently, but his lips only quivered, and they didn't open wide enough to latch onto my skin. "Please..." I begged again, then I felt him move his lips closer to my skin before he sank his fangs into my flesh, and I felt him drain my blood. Instead of feeling life slipping out of me, I felt an overwhelmingly intense pleasure; it made me want to wrap my hands around to make him sink his fangs deeper, but I had to control myself, telling myself we need to survive so we can save my mother because it was because of her that I am alive when I thought all hope was gone.
Salvador then suddenly lets go of me, his eyes open, his mouth smeared with blood as he gasps frantically while his gaze frantically searches his environment.
"W… where am I?"
"It is not the time for questions, but rather I want you to help me with my mother; she's dying," I spoke with a panic-inflicted voice.
Salvador was still trying to regain himself, then he suddenly stopped and turned to look at me. His gaze was intense; it made me feel so uneasy until he crawled towards me, wrapped his hand around my cheeks, and immediately sealed his lips with mine. I knew this was not the time for this, but when I felt the cold moistness of his tears as they touched my skin, I lifted my gaze to look at him with horror in my eyes as I asked gently, "What is happening?"
"She's still not dead; you need to leave. A man is waiting for you outside. Take your mother there, and he'll help you back to the pack where she can be treated." His voice sounded so pained, his eyes were intense, and his voice was hoarse, which made things more unbearable for me as I watched him. I was trying to hold back my tears, but I couldn't when he gently wrapped his hand around my cheeks. "You have to go. Just know that I love you."
Immediately after those words escaped his lips, I felt his body crack, and his eyes shot open. My heart was racing faster than it should when I turned and I saw Bright was on her feet, her eyes red with rage, and a deadly smile could be seen on her face. "And you think you can just kill me just like that?" She laughed. "I don't go down alone; I always make sure that we go down together." She laughed again as she started walking towards us steadily as blood oozed down her body. My heart raced faster than it should as she took every step towards me, a wicked smile clearly seen on her face, making me feel a tormenting pain I never knew existed. I fell to the ground while groaning; I felt like my lungs were almost ripped apart because I was suffocating. She twisted her hand in the air while she continued walking towards me.
I turned towards my mother, and I noticed that she was still lifeless, which made me slightly uncomfortable, knowing that I couldn't save her. I closed my eyes, using my last breath as I called out to my wolf, but her voice was distant.
"Nooo..." The voice of Salvador echoed as I felt more bones crack.
"From the first day you were born, I have always known that you were a threat, but I never believed that you would find me one day." The voice of Bright resonated. I was still calling out to my wolf while hoping that she would hear me at least, but she was deathly silent, then I heard her voice gently speaking before she thrust into me so powerfully, I felt every surge of energy.
Then I felt alive. "No...no, it can be; I have imprisoned your wolf in a place that only I can have access to." Bright let out a cry, which made me lift my face up with a smile and say to her, "Enough is enough; no one dares touch my mate."
I lunged at her, ready to kill, and then I heard the sound of a gunshot. I stopped for a second; maybe I misinterpreted, but I managed to look at my abdomen, and I saw blood smeared on my shirt. Pain scorched through my entire being. I turned to see who had pulled the trigger; my mouth hung open to say something, but nothing came out when I saw Salvador holding the gun.
"I'm sorry, I have to do this. You can only paralyze her with the dagger for the meantime, but you can kill her. The only way she can be killed is if blood is given, and blood needs to be taken." When he said those words, he started running towards Bright. Before she could use her powers, he sank the dagger that was still inside of her deeper until it also sank into him. I watched in horror as I fell to the ground.
In a few minutes, I found myself feeling okay when my wolf managed to heal me. "How did you know that was the only way to kill me, you bastard?" Bright called out loudly before her face started rotting, her skin peeling, and her hair falling off until she turned into dust right in front of my eyes. Salvador fell to the ground; I noticed the same thing was happening to him as I called out frantically, "Please, someone help him."
"There is only one way he can be helped." The voice of Denise resonated.
