Chapter 30: Sparkling City Light

"You crazy people! I don't understand, why are there people like them in this world?" I grumbled in annoyance, it felt like my emotions still hadn't subsided even though I had left the supermarket.

If only I could teach them a much more painful lesson, they would be reluctant to lift their heads again.

"Jenni? Jennifer...!"

Suddenly I heard someone calling me and for some reason the voice sounded familiar to my ears. I looked back, my eyes widened when I saw Grandma Maria get out of her shiny black sedan. Wearing a blouse and skirt from a famous brand, Grandma Maria walked over to me carrying a black bag.

I was shocked, I didn't expect that I would meet Grandma Maria in this place and clearly, my apartment was right in front of us.

"N-Grandma? Why is Grandma here?" I asked, somehow feeling panicked. Of course, in my shopping bag, there were three cans of beer and a pack of cigarettes. Yes, although there are other items. But I'm still afraid that he will see me buying cigarettes.

Grandma approached me with a gentle smile, as if she was happy to meet me here.

"Thank God we met here! Grandma called your cell phone, but you didn't answer it. So, Grandma took the initiative to come to the supermarket, hoping you were working. But instead we met here!" Said Grandma Maria. I was a little surprised when he said he wanted to go to the supermarket. I'm glad he didn't have time to come to the supermarket, because otherwise he might have seen me fighting with the cashier and store manager.

"Ahahaha... I'm also happy that we can meet here! But, why does Grandma want to meet me?" I asked while laughing awkwardly.

"Actually, Grandma wants to know the address of the apartment where you and Jake live. Aren't you two neighbors?" Grandma asked. Actually, I already expected it when grandma said she wanted to meet me. This must be about his stubborn grandson.

"Oh, how is this? If I tell grandma my apartment is right in front of her, she will definitely ask me to take me to Jacob's place. She will know that we actually live together. Oh my gosh, how is this?" I thought. I'm so restless, don't know what I should do now. It seemed impossible if I told Grandma the address of our current apartment. But lying is also impossible.

"Jenny?"

"How is this? Do I just give up? I thought.

"Jenni, are you okay?"

"Agh... y-yeah, I'm fine! Actually we live in the apartment in front of us!" I said in a trembling voice.

"Is it true?"

"Y-yes, Grandma!"

"Then, could Grandma visit for a while? Grandma also wants to meet Jacob. Is he at home?"

"Y-yeah, maybe!"

"In that case, thank God!"

Bad, this is really bad. I couldn't trick Grandma Maria. If Jacob finds out I brought his Grandma to visit, he'll probably kill me.

Grandma and I entered the quiet elevator, the atmosphere was really awkward because I was just silent and kept thinking about the bad luck that would come my way after this. I can imagine how scary that arrogant man's appearance would be.

"Jake probably won't be happy if I suddenly come to visit him!" Grandma Maria said starting the conversation.

"But why didn't Grandma tell Jake that Grandma wanted to come?"

"If I tell him, he definitely won't want to meet me. That stubborn boy, he's exactly the same as his father. Only, his father is a little more cheerful and open to other people. But, that stubborn boy, Jake, he has a very hard time blending in." with other people and doesn't like being approached. That's why he doesn't have friends!"

"Tsk, I thought so!" I thought.

"But even though he looks arrogant and stubborn, Jake is actually a good guy. It's just that it's very difficult to get his attention and trust. That's why Jenni, try to be friends with him!" Grandma said.

If possible, I also hope to be friends with him. But it seems, he's the one who doesn't want to be friends with me. Never mind making friends, just looking at my face he always looks annoyed. As if I were an amateur comedian who wasn't funny but insisted on appearing on TV and as a result, the people watching would feel annoyed.

After the elevator doors opened, my heart suddenly started beating fast as if it was going to jump out of my body. I'm not sure this will go well? What if Jake can't accept it?

"T-this is his house!" I said after bringing Grandma Maria to stand in front of the door of my apartment and Jacob's apartment.

"Is this your house or Jake's house?" Grandma asked. It seemed he was confused by my instructions.

"Th-this, this is Jake's house!"

"Is it true?"

"M-maybe he's inside! How about just ring the bell! Then, I'll excuse myself!" I said as I hurried away before Jacob opened the door and saw me coming with his grandmother.

"Jenni, where are you going?" Grandma asked. Looks like Grandma Maria can't let me go.

"I-I have a little business. S-so I have to go home! S-see you, Grandma?"

"Jenni, has Jake told you to come to my house for dinner tomorrow?"

"Y-yes, he already told me! B-but-"

"You're coming, right? Grandma wants us to have dinner together. Besides, Jake's cousin is coming too! So, you have to come, okay?"

"O-okay, I understand! Then see you, Grandma!" I said as I walked away.

I didn't want to look back and immediately looked for a safe hiding place. This situation is really not good for heart health.

The only place I could go was the rooftop of the apartment which had a very wide balcony. From this place, I can see the view of New York City quite clearly.

The clear sky, sparkling city lights and the night breeze made me feel better. At least for a moment I want to feel peace.
