Chapter 651: Very Uneasy

The computer screen displayed countless small surveillance feeds, all clear and smooth.

But among the many feeds, one small screen showed something unusual.

It was a hallway.

A man walked out of the hallway, dialing a number on his phone.

There was no sound, so it was unclear what he was saying.

After hanging up, he pretended to ignore everything and left.

"Have security at the entrance stop him, but don't make a scene," Zoey instructed, glancing at her phone on the table.

If the man was indeed going to report something, she would receive a call within five minutes.

Ruben immediately ordered the security downstairs.

The man intended to leave the lab but was stopped at the door by the security guard.

The guard informed him that no one was allowed to leave the lab at the moment.

The man sighed in relief, though his expression remained anxious.

He felt uneasy.

Ruben had been looking grim since he first saw the man.

Zoey glanced at him, and her phone rang.

Sawyer was calling.

"Zoey, what's going on? I heard there's a problem with the H5 serum. Call your professor and find out what's happening. Everything was going smoothly with the research before. Is something missing? Let me know if you need anything; I'll support you fully!"

"You got the news so quickly. Sawyer's information network is impressive," Zoey remarked.

"Now's not the time for that. Tell me what's going on. My friend called me with the news."

Zoey signaled to Ruben.

Ruben took a deep breath and went downstairs. Within ten minutes, he dragged the man back upstairs.

As the man was brought up, he kept shouting, "Ruben, what are you doing? I came to see you. If you're busy, I won't bother you. Why drag me back? My mom's waiting for me at home. I need to go back!"

"Shut up!" Ruben's expression was dark, and he harshly reprimanded the man, pushing him into Dr. K's office.

Fitzgerald stumbled and nearly fell. As he steadied himself, he yelled, "Ruben, are you crazy? Are you trying to kill me?"

"Shut your mouth. It's not your turn to speak," Ruben coldly scolded, then turned to the masked Zoey.

"Dr. K, I've brought him."

"So you're Dr. K," Fitzgerald turned to her, rudely eyeing her up and down. "You look pretty young, nice figure, but why the mask? Are you hiding something?"

He reached out to remove the mask.

Zoey flicked her fingers, and a stick flew through the air, striking Fitzgerald's wrist.

Fitzgerald winced in pain, "What's wrong with you? That hurt!"

"You jerk!" Ruben couldn't hold back and slapped him.

"Fitzgerald! I gave you access to make it easier for you to find me, not to leak lab secrets!"

Fitzgerald covered his face, sneering, "You're a riot. When you gave me access, didn't you think about the risks? You handed it over willingly. Did I beg you for it?"

Ruben was speechless with anger.

How could he be so brazen after doing something wrong?

"Is this what I taught you? I taught you to be honest and kind! To be truthful and brave! I never taught you to lie, to be deceitful, or to be shameless!"

The harsher Ruben's words, the darker Fitzgerald's expression became. He started laughing, his face growing more twisted.

"Now you say this! When you divorced my mom, did you consider me? I begged you not to divorce, but neither of you listened! You even found me a stepmother. Do you think I wanted a stepmother? That woman pretends to be nice to me in front of you, but I hate her guts!"

Ruben's hands trembled with anger, "So you leaked lab secrets to get back at me for divorcing your mom?"

"Not just you. I want to get back at Zoey and Dr. K, too. Look, these are the two people you care about most. Zoey is Dr. K's prized student, and Dr. K is your most admired colleague. Ruining them would hurt you, wouldn't it?"

Fitzgerald laughed maniacally.

He tore open his collar, revealing a scar that ran from his shoulder to his chest.

"The night you divorced my mom, she left in a car. I chased her in the pouring rain and got hit by a car. This scar..."

Fitzgerald paused, struggling to control his emotions, "This scar reminds me that your insistence on divorcing my mom nearly killed me that night!"

Ruben looked at the scar, pain flashing across his face.

That night was a painful memory he could never forget.

Zoey watched the father and son argue, tapping the table with one hand.

"Sorry to interrupt, but family matters can wait. Right now, we need to address the lab secret leak."

Fitzgerald was fearless. "Whatever."

"You're not scared?"

"Why should I be? I knew the consequences when I did it. I'll face whatever comes."

He buttoned his shirt, glaring at Ruben with hatred.

"I'm in this mess because of you."

"You seem to be mistaken," Zoey interjected.

Fitzgerald retorted, "What, are you defending Ruben?"

Ruben's name from his mouth was filled with sarcasm.

"Your parents' divorce is their business, not yours."

Fitzgerald sneered, "What are you talking about? They're my parents. They owe me a stable family!"

"If you had to stay with someone you didn't love for your parents' sake, would you?"

"That's different."

Zoey calmly replied, "Your parents got together because of love. They separated because that love was gone, and continuing was impossible. As their child, you should respect their decision."

"Not dictate their lives."
