Chapter 646: Not Understanding

Alfonso shot him a disdainful look. "You can't stop this. In the end, it's all about who's got the skills to win."

He walked away, leaving Henry fuming.

On the way back, Henry was silent.

Zoey noticed his mood. "Is it really worth getting worked up over? I wasn't planning to pay him any attention."

"He wants to date you freely!" Henry said seriously.

"I know, but I didn't agree to it."

"He wants to date you freely!"

Zoey felt helpless.

"Yeah, a lot of people want to date freely, but don't they need the other person's consent? Just because he says he wants to date doesn't mean he can."

At a red light, Henry gripped the steering wheel, his intense eyes fixed on Zoey.

"Don't pay him any attention!"

"Okay, I won't."

Only then did Henry feel a bit of the frustration lift from his chest.

But just a bit.

The thought of Alfonso's greedy eyes still made him uneasy.

This feeling lingered until the evening.

Zoey knocked on his door, holding a chess set. "Want to play a game?"

Henry's lips slowly curved into a smile as he stepped aside to let her in.

When the first piece hit the board, Henry finally smiled.

So what if someone else coveted her? Precious things always attract attention, but they can only look.

This treasure was his.

The King Mansion.

The family of three was in a state of panic.

Since they got back, Timothy had been bombarded with calls about the company being inexplicably targeted, causing the stock to plummet.

Projects, both signed and ongoing, were facing issues and had to be halted.

There were even surprise inspections of some departments.

What company didn't have a few skeletons in the closet? They couldn't withstand a surprise inspection.

"How could this happen? Didn't you deliver the gifts I asked you to?"

Timothy was losing it.

"We did. They said the inspection was supposed to be the day after tomorrow, but for some reason, they came today. We didn't have time to prepare."

Timothy felt dizzy and had to hold onto the couch to keep from fainting.

"Send someone to handle it immediately. Deliver the gifts that need to be delivered!"

After hanging up, Hazel quickly checked Timothy's blood pressure, which had skyrocketed.

She hurriedly gave him some medication to lower it.

Timothy sat on the couch, eyes closed.

Luna wanted to help. "Don't worry, I'll call Alfonso. Maybe he can help us."

Timothy opened his eyes. "Then call him quickly."

But the call went unanswered.

Luna bit her lip. "I don't know what's going on. He usually answers right away."

Timothy slumped on the couch, staring at the falling stock prices on his phone.

It kept dropping.

He had desperately tried to find help, calling many friends, but they all refused.

Marvin was sick, and the company was already in turmoil. Timothy had planned to take over and make a name for himself, to earn Marvin's respect.

Now it was all ruined.

In one night, everything fell apart.

"We can't just sit here and do nothing!" Timothy suddenly stood up. "It must be Henry. Only he has the power to do this. We need to go see him!"

Apologize, admit fault.

Anything to save the company.

The Phillips Mansion.

It was a rare, quiet day.

Zoey and Henry were both home, and Jesse and Yvette were happy to see the young couple.

Jesse pulled Henry into a game of chess.

Yvette, who loved gardening, found a kindred spirit in Zoey, who was eager to learn.

As they enjoyed their time, a servant came in. "There's a man outside who says he's Miss King's father."

Jesse's eyes widened. "Zoey, did you invite him?"

Zoey shook her head. "It's probably about the company."

Henry snorted.

Jesse knew Henry well. "This is your doing, isn't it? Now they're here."

"So what if they're here? I'm not afraid of him." Henry revealed the truth. "You don't know how he treated Zoey yesterday. He yelled at her in the street, saying awful things. I don't even want to repeat them."

Jesse was furious. "What? Zoey got yelled at yesterday? And you, you didn't protect her?"

"Of course I did. That's why they're here now."

Jesse slammed the table. "Good! Daring to bully Zoey and then come here to settle accounts? Bring them in!"

Timothy finally got permission to enter, carrying a bunch of gifts, with Hazel and Luna in tow. He plastered a smile on his face as he walked in.

"I'm so sorry. The kids have been engaged for so long, and this is my first visit. That's my fault. I should have come sooner."

"Who invited you?" Jesse asked bluntly.

Timothy was taken aback.

He had prepared himself for a tough reception, but he remained calm despite the cold welcome.

"Well, Zoey is my daughter. She's engaged to Henry, so we're family now. We should look out for each other."

"You've got some nerve!" Jesse showed no respect. "Young people might not say it, but I'm old and don't care. You know how you've treated your daughter! You've mistreated Zoey for years, and now you bring this person here!"

He glared at Luna, finding her presence offensive.

"You're not here to give gifts or visit. You're here to provoke us, to show Zoey how loving you are with someone else!"

Jesse's anger grew.

Timothy felt wronged. "You've misunderstood. I brought Luna to apologize to Zoey!"

Luna spoke softly. "I'm sorry, Zoey. It's all my fault. I caused misunderstandings between you and your parents. I didn't mean any harm. Please don't be mad at me or blame them..."

Her fake demeanor was exactly what Jesse couldn't stand.

Just looking at her gave him a headache.

"Where's my broom?"

Timothy's face stiffened. "Please don't be angry. We really came to apologize. I realize I was wrong to treat Zoey that way. If she wants, we can still be a family."

Henry handed Jesse the broom, and Jesse started swinging it with vigor.

He hit Timothy on the backside.

Timothy's face turned grim.

"That's for not thinking straight, for not loving your daughter, for being biased! For coming here pretending! Hypocrite!"

Jesse scolded and hit him.

Timothy ran around the living room, his anger rising. Even Marvin had never hit him like this!

When Jesse finally got tired and stopped, Timothy's backside was swollen, and he limped as he walked.

"You're right. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have treated Zoey that way. Please forgive me, and Zoey, please don't be mad at me."

He said through gritted teeth.

But Jesse wasn't moved. "Throw these three out!"
