Chapter 127

Lucy Rose absentmindely sat through the interview process, wishing to be anywhere else other than the spacious and well ventilated interview room, stuck with her father, his secretary, the company's HR Head and Stacey, her loyalist and personal secretary, who will be co anchoring the process for selecting her body guard. While she appears to be physically present and attentive to everything going in, there's a riot going on inside of her, an uprising she can't seem to handle or quiten down no matter how hard she tries, her mind and thoughts constantly wanders back to the shocking discovery she just made hours ago, recalling very single statement, every single move and every single gesture like a cam recorder on replay, she still can't wrap her head around it, Killian not only have a girlfriend, he's engaged to be married! Her mind eyes particularly kept going back to how possessively he held onto Kaitana's waist as she broke the news to him, it made her mouth go dry and her body hot with longing as she unconsciously pictures him doing the same to her instead, but the image scrambled as fast as it came and guilt churned her inside like butter, what is she thinking? Having romantic thoughts about another woman's man, to cap it all, he's one who doesn't even acknowledge her existence! He basically introduced her as a friend! A friend?! They're not even close enough to be described as friendsz be probably just used the title to humour her.

'...Do you have any questions you'd like to ask?' Dominic's cold touch brought her back to reality, she jerks, turning abruptly to face him with a quick apology which he didn't bother to acknowledge, Rude! But it's just how he his, she used to find his indifference hurting, but now, it's just another routine she has grown accustomed to. Dominic rephrased his questions, watching her with an unsatisfied glint in his eyes. 'You've been quiet, done you have any questions you want to ask?' she swallows hard and clears her throat dramatically, declining the offer to ask any question, truthfully, she's had no personal concernes or issues to address with the applicants that have been presented to far, mainly because she was barely paying attention to the whole process, she just wants to get it down, her the selection process over with and leave, to be allow and in her own space so she could digest everything that happened. Dominic could sense these something is going on with her, she could sense hwe withdrawal and for a brief moment, he was remoted to ask ehar the problem is, but on a second thought, he realizes how uncharacteristic or him it would be, there relationship was practically none existent until she finished college and started working as NOVA, somewhere along the line they managed to move pass the years of silence and awkwardness to build a business relationship based on mutual respect and understanding, there has never been any room for shows of love, care and affection, not in the past, and.mose definitely not now, also, he isn't about to diminish her authority in the presence of others so he let it go. The applicants so far are literally similar to one another, all buff, big mean looking and unsmiling men with too much muscle that makes them look more like a badly sculpted threat than a protection, there is nothing exciting or calming about there presence and Lucy Rose couldn't help but dread the prospect of having one of them follow her around for the next unforeseeable future, because who knows when she'll finally be dimmed to be out of danger and free to live here life as she wills, they all have prior experience in either combat, martial art or street fight, a skill to show they're up to the task of protecting her but she still can't find herself chosing any one of them, perhaps, her father would have to do the honour of picking one of them himself, and though they did a good of cleaning up and appearing presentable, she could spot a couple of dangerous looking tatttoes peaking out from collars and wrists, infact, the first applicant have a bold one on his forehead.

'Okay Mr Connor, that would be all for now, you may leave, we'd send you an email in the next few days, please do we'll to stay connected to get information about the next step of the interview' Stacey chips in, ending the question and answer process with the fifth applicant, they're ten applicants in total and five more to go through before calling it a day, Lucy Rose resisted the urge to impulsively get up and walk away without a backward glance, the thought of spending another two and half hour, cramped in her seat, makes her want to pull her hair out in agony, but she kept a professional and unreadable expression instead, one that didn't betray what she feels exactly, inside of her.

'Thank you' Connor, the 40 years old former street fighter and trainer, rose from his chair in one swift move and moved towards the door in such a fast and agile pace than expected for a man his heavy bulk and size... an impressive trait, Dominic took a mental note of it, he's had enough experience to know that the skill will definitely come in handy if push comes to shove.

'Let's take a break' Dominic announced out of the blues, causing Lucy Rose to let out a loud sigh of relief that was audible enough for everyone to hear, yet, he pretended not to have heard, he was more concerned about the unexpected and unwanted visit who once again went against his direct orders and came visiting. 'We'll reconvene in the next thirty minutes' he adds, walking out with his personal secretary in tow, everyone else disparsed afterwards except Lucy Rose, who strangely remains sitted, and Stacey.

'I should go and inform the other applicants about the break, I'd be back real soon...' she suggests, walking off as well, Lucy Rose hums the in reply, reclining back in her chair to relax her aching head but her phone chose that very moment to ring, interrupting her sole moment of peace and serenity
