Chapter 84

Eyes cannot Lie

“Here’s the paper works you told me to work unto, Dr. Madrigal.” I smiled at her.

She did the same. “Thank you so much, Alia. You work efficiently. Hiring you is indeed the best decision.”

I smiled and shrugged. “Congrats to you as well, for having your own clinic.”

Her black hair fell on her shoulders when she bowed down. Her skin is a bit tanned because of her race. She’s half Latina and American, so her features are well combined and compliments her so well. I’ve come to know that this was her first time being an independent therapist. She worked as a freelance Doctor before but now here she is.

”I know. Thank you. Make sure you make time on Saturday, I’m throwing a party for this milestone.”

I nodded and said sure. I can’t help but to feel a bit envious of her success. I once dreamed to be a psychologist as well but time didn’t allow it. But who knows? In time, maybe I’ll have the chance to try again. For now, I’m still glad that I’m able to work in this field of work the same as what I wanted.

”This are your schedules by the way,” I reminded her. “The first patient will be at ten; Mrs. Cooper, it’s her third session according to her records. The next one will be at one who asked for an appointment and didn’t have any records.”

”That’s it? Great, I’ll call you if I need something.” she said.

I nodded and smiled at her and left. She’s a good boss, to be honest. Maybe that’s why she’s a Psychologist. I’ve learned for two years about it so I’m kind of aware how this profession goes.

It’s my first week and so far, it’s been good and I’m having fun. I’m happy to interact with different people who I know suffer internal pains and battles. My sympathy comes to those people because I know and I experienced being in their situation, maybe not the same but I know how they feel because I’ve been there.

”Thank you, Mr. John. Have a good day ahead,” I said while I’m in front of my computer. He answered me politely before leaving.

That’s so far the last patient for this day. I busied myself organizing stuff on my desktop to finish the last hours of the day. When suddenly, the door opened and it creaked. My first thought, I’m wondering who it was. We’re not expecting anyone today since no one emailed for an appointment so I was shocked for a bit of seconds.

But when I saw who’s standing at the door’s direction. I was caught off guard. What the? Why is he here?

My heart beat went wild. I didn’t know how to react. I didn’t know what to do. I was just stoned while looking at him. God, it’s been a year. A year since we saw each other in the flesh. I always saw him in articles and news but now, here we are again.

His eyes are casually looking at me like he never knew me at all. Like I was just the only one who’s affected here. But of course, I would understand if he acts this way. Since I owe him a lot, big time. Even our last encounter was never good and it ended in a bad way.

”Good afternoon.” His deep mysterious voice said.

“U-uh,” I didn’t know what to say.

Is he a patient as well? He’s not on the schedule. Maybe it's his first time? Well, what are the odds that out of all the clinics in the country he went here?

”D-did you email for an appointment?” I asked casually yet I was trembling inside.

He’s wearing a trench coat and combat shoes that’s emphasizing how massive he is. It’s been just a year yet I feel like so much has changed on him already. He looked more handsome, he looked more pleasant and light.

”Actually, I’m here for Celest. Is she inside?” He asked.

My lips went agape. I was processing his words at first but stopped because he walked near my direction. So as a result, I couldn’t answer his question. He has this light smile on his face while casually looking at me, while I’m just seated here looking so struck.

He put both of his hands on the top of the table and I gulped. For sure my eyes couldn’t lie at this moment. Fvck. God knows how hard I tried to forget him. God knows how I became a mess for leaving him and not being able to say it all in his face.

”D-Doctor Madrigal is inside, sir.” I said.

His lips protruded and he nodded. He stood straight right away while still looking down on me. I avoided his gaze immediately because if I kept on fighting his stares, I think I’m gonna have another set of panic attacks again.

Without any words, he came to the door of Ms. Madrigal’s office and came inside. I was stoned, sitting on my table. I breathed heavily thinking that I forgot to breathe when he came near me a while ago.

I whimpered and shut my eyes tight while grabbing my hair, slightly waking myself up, thinking that I’m just hallucinating or this was just a dream.

”Why is he here?” I asked myself.

I couldn’t think straight the whole time. I couldn’t focus on my own work thinking about the fact that we’re just breathing in the same room. It’s been a year and seeing him look fine, it actually gave me a kind of relief. The relief of thinking that he might have lived well after our last encounter, unlike me.

Suffering from depression and any other aspects, it was never easy. I blamed myself for how many months thinking that I did nothing but to ruin people’s lives. And now that I’m slightly going out of the box, he’s back reminding me all the things that had happened in the past.

Past an hour, I heard faint chuckles which made me sit straight. I pretended to be busy again but the truth is I’m panicking inside. He’s out. They're out. And they are looking happy.

”Next time, inform me. You know I have a lot on my plate.” I heard Ms. Madrigal’s voice. My brows shot up. They are close? And I’m right? He’s visit is not expected by anyone here.

”I dropped by after having an after lunch meeting with a client. Why? Am I not welcome here?” Aciel asked jokingly.

My hands fully stopped working on my personal computer, while my ears are busy eavesdropping. Damn!

”Of course, you’re always welcome here babe. I missed you by the way. Thank you for visiting me.”

My whole world literally stopped when I heard Ms. Madrigal speak. They’re dating?

I don’t know how the hell the scene finished in front of my eyes. I just woke up to my senses when I saw Aciel’s eyes before the door shut, it was the last thing I saw.

I thought I’m okay now. I guess I’m not?
