Chapter 19: At His Mercy
Alison's POV:
“I heard that you are not cooperating!” His hoarse voice woke me up from my throat. “Little pest, why are you disturbing my maids? I mean they might be ordinary maids to you, but they are still my subjects,” he continued with his husky voice, looking at me like I was some sort of prey.
‘Little pest, that is new.’ I reasoned within myself, wondering what he meant by that endearment. Nevertheless, I decided to voice my discomfort.
“Let me go! You have no right to kidnap me and handcuff me to a bed! And also, I demanded to see the lycan king and not his grandson.” I yelled at the man in front of me and at the top of my voice with a bold expression, but I regretted it immediately.
“His grandson -” the man whispered with a menacing voice, moving closer to me slowly. While Dido and Mandy giggled quietly, Sitonsia looked at me with a pitiful gaze.
“Humm, don't come near me! I am a sun fairy, a descendent of the goddess of the sun!” I lied in-between gritting my teeth. The reason I lied was because I read in storybooks that lycan were afraid of the sun, so I thought that lying would protect me from his wrath.
“A descendent of the sun?” The man looked genuinely shocked, and his eyes dropped. “Oh, you are vampires' nemesis. You are totally useless to me now, I mistook you for someone else,” he mumbled thoughtfully, staring at my face.
I looked back at him, and a triumphant grin appeared on my face, “So where is the vampire king? Please, tell him to release me, I am of no use to his kingdom,” I said with a bold voice, and I paused for a minute to think about what was happening. I couldn't believe that I was talking so boldly, but something felt different. Ever since I woke up in this new kingdom, it felt like someone had possessed me. I believed that was not my first time in this kingdom, and it was like I had seen this strange man somewhere, but I couldn't remember where I saw him.
“Ah ah ah ah!” The man burst into laughter, taunting me with his loud humiliating voice. When his laughing subsided, an evil smile appeared on his face, and he looked at me like I was his prey. “Little pest, in this kingdom, there is but one rule, no one is allowed to question me.” He said with a low menacing voice, and I shuddered in fear because of the way his lips moved.
“Why not release me? I mean you said I was of no use to you,” I muttered in disbelief, wondering if I was ever going to be free.
“Indeed, you are of no use to me, maybe I should feed you to my dragons,” he murmured thoughtfully, looking at me with squinted eyes, “Or better still, how about I sell you off to the slums.” He said quickly, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
My heart skipped and began to breathe faster. I looked at him with furrowed brows, wondering if he was joking, but the look on his face was more than convincing. The man was not joking, I was indeed a little prey to him.
“Go and get the trainers, tell them to feed her to my skinniest dragon. It is better to feed her flesh to the pet than to waste it on a sword,” the man said, turning to face Dido, and I thought that her eyes would lighten up in excitement, but to my surprise, Dido looked at me with genuine concern. It wasn't fake, it was real, Dido didn't want me to die.
“Hurry up, Dido! Stop staring at his majesty,” Mandy scolded Dido, who looked like she had just seen a bloodthirsty shadow hunter.
“Y - yes, your majesty.” Dido stuttered, and bowed soberly. I looked baffled, and I couldn't help but imagine the awful way I would die.
“But your majesty, lady Brunelle, is very fond of Alison, it will make her really sad if you kill her. Lady Brunelle might even lose her mind,” Sitonsia murmured under her breath, just enough for George to hear.
George looked unbothered by what she had just said, and he furrowed his brows, wondering how that information would help or harm him. Then he remembered how annoying his sister could be when she wanted something, and he sighed desperately. We (I, Sitonsia, Dido) all thought he was about to order my release, and a sigh of relief left our lips.
“Fine, be sure to send the girl's bones to Brunelle’s garden. Not only would her land be fertilized, she would have bones to play with,” George said, an evil smirk settled on his face as he looked at me.
I looked at him with arched brows, wondering why a young man like him had such power in the kingdom. “Who is he anyway?” I thought aloud. “If it wasn't for the fact that I am currently at his mercy, he is nothing when compared to my brother Peter. Brother Pete will easily win him in a courtesy competition, a cute competition. I doubt he can cook. Brother Peter is the best cook I know….. Right, he would only win in a handsome competition, not that Brother Peter is ugly or anything, but I admit that this man is more good-looking,” I thought, and argued with myself internally.
George's eyes seemed to gleam with amusement at my internal monologue, and I wondered if he could read my thoughts. I quickly looked away, trying to compose myself.
I later learned that George got furious at how I was looking at him. He felt my gaze was insulting and amusing at the same time. I didn't back down from the staring competition (ah ah ah), and we kept looking at each other curiously for what felt like hours.
"Take her away," George suddenly said, his voice dripping with disdain. He seemed to have had enough of me. "Prepare her for your Lady, Brunelle. And make sure she's presentable. I wouldn't want my sister to be disappointed."
The maids reluctantly nodded and began to drag me away. Sitonsia looked like she was against the idea, but there was nothing she could do. Dido, on the other hand, pitied me, and I guessed it was because of Sitonsia’s feelings. I tried to struggle against them, but they were too strong. I caught a glimpse of George's face, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of something else there, something almost like... sadness.
But it was gone in an instant, and I was left wondering if I had just imagined it.
