Chapter 70
Lilian POV
Don't mistake that I wanted to work for Nate because I have a crush on him, but I'm doing this because I needed to provide for myself and my sick dad as time goes on in the future and also to kill boredom.
I took a deep breath as I stood in front of the doctor's office, placing a knock on the door, and going inside after he ushered me inside.
"Hi, Lilian. How are you doing today?" The doctor who was sitting behind his desk asked me with a smile lingering on his face as he looked from his desktop, raising his eyebrows.
"Is there anything you want to talk about?" He further asked me after I nodded my head, and again, I nodded my head.
"Please, sit," He gestured to the chair in front of him and I sat down.
"So, how may I help you?" He asked me, and I sighed briefly. I had no idea if this was going to work out or if it was a good idea, but it was something I really needed to do.
"I need your help, doc. Actually, I got a part-time job that'll be paying me well later, so I wouldn't be available all the time here to take care of my dad. You know, I need to pay for his injections and all that, so I would need money," I tried as much as I could to explain to him so he would understand me.
"Oh, that's great. Is there anything you need me to help you with?" He asked me, and I sighed briefly.
"Yes, doc. Actually, I was thinking if you can help me hire someone to take care of him on my behalf for some hours on weekdays while I'm away to work," I explained to him, and he seemed to think about it for a while before he finally shrugged.
"That's fine. I will look into it, and get back to you as soon as possible," Hearing that from him made me relieved.
"Thank you. I will be on my way now," I finally left his office and strode to the ward to see my dad. As always, he was still unconscious, and I couldn't help but wonder when he was ever going to wake up. I pray it'll be soon.
I spent hours in the hospital and once it was evening, I left for the hotel.
It took me just five minutes to get to the hotel since it wasn't such a long distance from the hospital, and I slumped on the bed as soon as I walked inside. My body felt stiff, and having a lot going on in my mind was messing with my head, but what could I do?
'I love you, Lilian' I sighed deeply as those words echoed in my head one more time. As much as I wanted to judge Ren that he fell in love with me because I lost weight, I knew deep down that it wasn't the case, and Nate? How sure I am that he feels the same way for me? Is this what they call a love triangle? Those were the questions that can through my mind, and when I couldn't come up with anything reasonable, I finally headed into the bathroom and had a long and relaxing bath. Coming back into the room minutes later, I slumped on the bed after I was done drying myself up. I thought it would work, but it didn't. Again, the thought of Nate and Ren clouded my mind. I couldn't help but notice how my heart always skipped whenever I was around Ren, and how I always feel the same way around Nate too. The thought of it was getting me really disturbed but it didn't seem like there was anything I could do about it.
I was finally able to push the thoughts away, drifting into dreamland afterward.
I had no idea how long I'd been asleep, but the sound of my ringing phone pulled me out of my deep slumber, and as I opened my eyes, the bright sunlight penetrated my eyes.
"Ugh!" I groaned tiredly as I managed to sit up on the bed, checking the time to find that I woke up pretty late. My phone was still ringing, so I quickly answered when I saw that the call was from the hospital. For seconds, my heart skipped, wondering why the hospital was calling me this early morning. Did something happen to my dad?
"Hello, doc," I said on the phone as soon as I answer the call.
"Hey, Miss Lilian. Can you come over to the hospital? Like right now," My heart skipped when he said that, many thoughts ran through my mind.
"Oh, alright, doc," as much as I wanted to ask him what happened, I tried to hold in and control my curiosity, and when the call finally dropped dead, I tossed my phone on the bed and hurried into the bathroom where I had a quick bath. Getting ready for the hospital took me about twenty minutes, and soon, I took a cab there.
"I'm sorry I called you so urgently. I was about to get busy, so I wanted us to do this early," He apologized to me as soon as I arrived at the hospital and went to his office.
"It's fine, doc. Is there any problem?" I asked him, sitting on the chair across from him.
"No, there is none. About what you said yesterday. I spoke to one of the nurses who will be on the morning shift for a few months, and she said she would consider it. All you need to do is pay her some money, and you are good to go," He explained to me, and my lips curved into an 'oh'. That was pretty much faster than I thought.
"Thank you so much, doc. I'm grateful for this favor. Can I see the nurse, please?" I asked him, and he nodded his head, saying "Sure,". I watched as he picked up the office telephone and dialed a number.
"Tell Nurse Lucy that I want to see her," I guess that was his secretary he called, or one of the nurses rather. Well, that wasn't my business.
"She'll be here soon," he said to me after he dropped the telephone, and I nodded my head.
Barely three minutes later, a knock sounded on the door and he ushered whoever was at the door in. The door finally opened with a young lady in her late thirties working in. She was wearing a white coat on top of her short black skirt and buttoned-down shirt with the collar arranged perfectly. She had long black wavy hairstyles, long eyelashes, and a few eyebrows, and she was slim.
"Good morning, doc. I was told you wanted to see me," She uttered in her feminine voice.
"Yes. This is the lady I was talking to you about. You two should talk now," He introduced us, and she quickly turned to greet me.
The meeting with the doctor and the new Nanny I got for my Dad went well, so I finally left his office and headed to the balcony to get fresh air.
The view here was everything, and having the morning fresh air caressing my face was like a compliment to me. I was able to forget my pain for seconds and clear my head as the only thing I could think of was the beauty of the sky and the environment.
"I finally met you," She quickly recognized the voice as Tracy's, so she quickly turned around and as expected, Tracy was standing behind her and glaring at her. Tracy looked pale and sick.
"Excuse me? Do I know you?" She raised her eyebrows. Of course, she knew who this woman was, but getting involved with her was the last thing on her mind, especially as it was too early for that.
"Stop with the pretense. I came to discuss something with you," Tracy uttered, and she stared at her wordlessly for seconds, nodding her head afterward.
"I want you to please stay away from Ren," She raised her eyebrows at the nonsense Tracy just spilled.
"Excuse you? What did you say?" She asked her to be sure her ears weren't deceiving her.
"I love him... You should let go of him for me. Leave us alone... Stay miles away from him..."
"Are you kidding me? Did Ren tell you we are seeing each other?" She huffed unbelievably as she blinked her eyes rapidly.
"You shouldn't be misled by what he said. Ren doesn't love you..."
"I heard you rejected him and even called off your wedding because you didn't like a playboy. How come you are acting all clingy and possessive now?" She scoffed and rolled her eyes.
"That's not your business..."
"The same way it's not your business who I decide to see..."
"You should at least let a dying woman be happy if you have a conscience," Tracy cuts her off, and she raised her eyebrows.
"Do you want to know? I'm a cancer patient and will die any moment from now. All I ask for is to have Ren by my side. Can you at least let a dying woman have that?" A drop of tears dropped from Tracy's eyes and she froze on the spot...
