Bella.
Hearing the news about Angelo getting married made me depressed, frustrated, and almost willing to end my life.
I stood in front of the mirror, yelling at myself, "What happened to you? All those years and you chose money over the one you love! How dare you? He was your first man! He was your everything. You even let another man share him with you! You did everything for him."
And I smashed the mirror with my hand.
All I was able to see in that mirror was a slut! Even if Angelo had a hand in turning me into a sinner and unfaithful wife, he didn't force me either. We both made mistakes.
The pain in my heart was more than what I felt when the broken glass cut my skin. I screamed until I couldn't form a word, as if all voices had vanished. The tears were rolling down my cheeks like rain.
I was slipping down the marble floor that gave coldness to my knees and my burning body, as if I had a fever. It wasn't me anymore. As if someone stole my happy years and my life.
It became meaningless. I acted like trash and forgot that I was living by and for Angelo. He was the one for me.
I stood up, dragging my feet to the shower room, and I took a cold shower. I kept crying and crying, hitting my head against the wall. I couldn't imagine losing my only love! What should I do with money without him!
I wished that I could turn back time six years ago. I wish I hadn't given myself to him before marriage; maybe he would have kept me as his wife. His decent wife.
My mom came hurriedly and barged into the shower, "Bella! What's going on?"
I turned my body slowly and looked at her; she gasped when she noticed my bleeding hand. "What happened to you? Did you lose your mind? He is just a man, and you can replace him easily."
"Slut." That was the word I said.
She widened her eyes at me, "What?"
I repeated, walking closer to her and stressing every word coming out of my mouth, "You are a slut. And unfortunately, I walked the same path as you did."
"Bella! How dare you!" she groaned.
I scoffed, pushing her aside and moving past her, "It's the truth. Don't fool yourself. I lost my husband. He is irreplaceable."
Yes, no one would take Angelo's place in my heart. No one.
"Bella," she said softly, trying to comfort me, placing her hands on my shoulders. "Bella, listen to me. If he truly loved you, he wouldn't leave you."
"Get out now," I said bitterly. I didn't even want to see her face. Not her, not anyone else.
She glared at me for a while, but in the end, she left me.
My brain wasn't working correctly; I had no plan. I had planned too much. I lied to him. I deceived him. I even cheated on him.
But that wasn't me.
The true Bella wasn't that bad.
I pulled myself together and dried my body. I hurriedly dressed. And I left the house. I drove fast to where Angelo was getting married. Yes, to his wedding. I had to stop him. I had to confess and ask him for forgiveness and a second chance.
Dr. Angelo Knight POV.
She was standing in front of me, beautiful and innocent, pregnant! She looked so beautiful in her wedding dress.
As much as I felt forced to marry her, there was something in my heart pressing on me. I had dreamed of having a child of my own blood. But marrying her felt so wrong.
I had had so many relationships and one-night stands with women and men. I had been married twice, and I was ready to get married for the third time. But unfortunately, I just couldn't go through with it.
Especially when she looked into my eyes and said, "So, are you happy? We are getting married today. By the way, you look so handsome." She blushed.
I forced a smile; I was uncomfortable. I didn't want to deceive the girl, but it was hard for me to accept her as my wife.
"You look beautiful too. I hope you won't regret marrying me later," I played along.
She narrowed her eyes and blushed again, smiling widely, "No. I am not gonna regret it. You're so handsome and kind, and every woman would kneel at your feet." She praised me, and I was surprised.
Because she got pregnant by mistake.
I filled her with my seed because I thought I couldn't make any woman pregnant.
But God had another plan.
I sighed, trying to pull myself together and control my thoughts. "Listen," I said, cupping her cheeks and pulling her closer to me. "I need to talk to you."
But I didn't have much time to say anything.
Because her father stepped inside the room and said, "It's time. Are you both ready?"
He spoke bitterly. He didn't look happy about his daughter's marriage. I didn't look happy either. But I couldn't run away. I wasn't that guy anymore. I had to be responsible.
She nodded to her father, almost jumping on her heels, "Yes!"
I stopped her, "Don't jump. You're pregnant."
Her father muttered coldly, asking me, or maybe accusing me, "Sure, you're worried about the baby, not her."
I immediately replied, annoyed, and it was a sincere feeling, "Actually about her. I want her to be safe."
She kissed my cheeks immediately, "I am so excited that we are getting married."
I had no idea when all these feelings erupted inside her. We didn't know each other well! The girl acted as if we had been in love for too long. Well, I liked her but not to that degree.
Her father hummed, "Okay, let's go. Everyone is waiting in the church. Let's finish this."
I stopped them, "Okay. But I need to talk to her in private for a couple of minutes."
They both looked at each other.
She shivered a bit worriedly, "But why? Do you want to delay the wedding?"
I couldn't accept seeing another innocent girl suffer because of the asshole I had been. That's why. I immediately held her hand, "Who said so? Don't be silly! Let's get married and make our big happy family."
And we walked to the altar together. Not as usual. But nothing was usual. It was as if a long movie scrolled in my head in these few seconds until we reached the priest.
Before he could ask me, "Do you want to marry—"
A familiar voice thundered in the church, "No, he can't marry another woman. He can't."
The priest asked immediately while all eyes turned to the back where Bella stood. "State your reason. Or keep silent forever."
Bella walked closer, and my heart beat harder in my chest. I wanted to smile. As if my soul had come back to me. As if I had been waiting for her appearance, but I didn't want to give myself hope.
Bella stood in front of me and held my hand. "Because I love this man more than any other woman. More than myself. More than my parents. More than my life. I'm even willing to share him with another woman if he wants to. But I can't lose him."
I felt guilty all of a sudden. She had blamed me in her words for all the past years. I had shared her with men and women and cheated on her and used her. I had messed with her mind and her soul. She deserved a better man. But it was too late. My heart was hers. And she was mine.
But I also couldn't step on the poor bride's dignity.
I pulled my hand away, "Go away, Bella. Please."
The tears flowed down Bella's cheeks. "But I love you. I beg you."
And she was ready to kneel. But I instantly stopped her, "Bella. I forgive you. But please go now."
She had forgiven me for any mistakes, so why wouldn't I forgive her for the only mistake she had made?
She barely dragged her feet a few inches. Then she ran at full speed, crying heavily and whining.
Silence filled the church. I blew out a long deep breath and smiled. I looked at my bride and kissed her cheeks, then decided to say my words in front of everyone. "You will always be the mother of my child. I will protect you and the baby and give you all and whatever you both need. But I can't make you suffer. My past is awful, and you're still so young. I can't ruin another woman's life. I am sorry. You're free from our commitment. I can't marry you and waste your precious years with me."
And I stepped backward. She looked at me, stunned and shocked, almost unable to form a word, "You're kidding, right? I am the mother of your coming baby! And I'm young and pretty, but you chose your ex-wife over us? Over your baby? Are you crazy?"
I leaned toward her face and kissed her forehead and smiled in relief, "Actually, I have been crazy all my life. This is the first time I am sane and doing the right thing. Sorry."
And then I left her.
Now was better than tomorrow. It was the best decision ever. I saved her life.
I jumped inside my car and drove fast, trying to follow Bella. I knew where I would find her; she always used to go to the restaurant where we first dated when she felt sad.
I hoped I could find her there. And yes. Once I parked my car, I saw her sitting at the same table. Crying and wiping her tears while drinking tequila shots.
She didn't even notice me until I pulled the shot from her hand. She gasped, "Angelo! Why are you here?"
Then she rubbed her eyes, talking to herself, "I am imagining now. I've lost my mind."
I almost chuckled, "No. It's me."
And I pulled Bella up, wiping her tears with my hand, "I didn't get married."
She blinked, "Really? But you dreamed of having kids for years! What if she decided to take your child away?"
I kissed her lips softly, then I said, "I was wrong. I dreamed of having kids with you. And yes, I choose you over my child. And I won't regret it."
"But..." she seemed to feel guilty.
I kissed her once again while hugging her tightly to my chest, "I would never regret being with you. You're the love of my life. You're my everything. You're my virgin girl."
We both breathed heavily in relief as if we had both finally found our souls. She whispered, "I am sorry. I was stupid."
I shook my head, "And I am sorry. I was an asshole, selfish. Horny. A terrible husband."
She giggled lightly, wrapping her arms around my neck, "No, you're not."
"I am," I assured her.
And then I stepped backward and looked at her. She narrowed her eyes, "Where are you going? Did you change your mind?"
I smiled and knelt, "Would you remarry me again? Would you accept me as your husband forever this time?"
She jumped immediately and screamed happily, "Yes! Yes! Yes!"
I stood up and took her hand, kissing it gently, "Three yeses. Then let's go and get married."
I lifted her in my arms in bridal style, while saying to her, "But we need to go somewhere first."
She opened her mouth, "Huh, where?"
I didn't tell her. I wanted to surprise her this time, and I was sure she would be happy.
I gently put her inside the car, and then I drove while kissing her as we did in the old days. As if we had just started dating again. As if no other woman or man had ever stepped into our relationship.
She suddenly said, "I didn't marry him."
"I know."
Yes, I knew. Even though I was away, I had kept my eyes on her. Somehow I didn't believe that she might get married to Gerard. She had only agreed to share me with him because I wanted to do so.
I smiled and pulled her to my chest, driving until we reached the orphanage. She looked at me, confused, "Why are we here?"
"For fulfilling our dreams."
And I didn't give her more explanation until we stepped inside. The kids were playing around and jumping here and there.
A baby was almost crawling. He was nearly two years old. He stumbled, and Bella, in a genuine, motherly act, bent down and picked up the baby, talking to him as if he could understand her, "Are you okay, sweet boy?"
He giggled.
She rubbed his back in circles and asked me, "So, what are we doing here?"
The manager came and greeted us. "Oh, Mr. Angelo. So you're back?"
I nodded, "Yes. I am here with my wife to adopt that sweet boy."
Bella smiled widely and looked at me happily, excited, "Really? Angelo! Is this your surprise?"
I hugged her and kissed the baby's small hand, "Yes. So, what do you think?"
"Yes. Yes. Yes," she said three times.
And we finally walked together after finishing the papers. We went to register our marriage and get the license, hurriedly and thrilled to go back and get furniture for our new house and our baby.
Even though we adopted him, I didn't regret it.
It's amazing how fate and your heart can take you down a different path. I had dreamed of having biological children, but when I impregnated another woman, I didn't feel happy.
I had to choose between the love of my life and my love for the coming baby.
