Chapter 18
Chapter 18
( HOPE SLUMPED)
“ Yes, daddy!” Hope didn't say that much. She glided the strands of hair away from her face, her voice laced with pain and uncontrolled heartache.
Georgiana's steps blared as she descended with a loud thud. She walked closer and planted a deep kiss on Julian's cheek.
“ Oh, Hope. Are you ready to get defeated again? If I were you, I would just let my senior brother take over the company to avoid further insults and disgrace,” She cocked her eyebrows at her, but Hope only flinched, not responding to her.
With that gesture, Hope walked out of the house. Her driver had already warmed the car and was waiting patiently for her. Once he saw her stepping out, he opened the car door with respect.
“ good morning, ma. Wish you a good day!” He spoke.
“ Thanks! Get the car started,” She spoke and entered into the car. The car got ignited and took her to the company.
Meanwhile, as she landed in the company, her eyes met with Dave, her mentor and also Noah's P. A.
Once he sighted her, he buried his hands into his pocket arrogantly.
“ Good morning, Dave!” She pulled down her eyeglases to her nose cone and greeted.
“ Morning, Hope. Are you here today again to battle with Noah?” He asked, removing one of his hands from his pocket.
She snorted, hiding her anger in a subtle smile. She respected Dave so damn much. She wouldn't want to disrespect him even though his statement was disrespectful.
“ Yes, Dave. I'll suggest you don't look down on me. I, on my own, has raised the company's worth to at least barely maximum. I deserve my flowers,” With that, she walked away not waiting for him to utter any more words.
No sooner had Hope crossed the polished marble foyer than the double doors swung open behind her. In strode Noah—tall, assured, blazer slung casually over one shoulder—and at his side, Collette, her crisp skirt suit and steely gaze making her as unmissable as a spotlight.
Noah paused when he caught sight of Hope, brow lifting in amused surprise. “Well, if it isn’t our resident corporate gladiator,” he drawled, voice warm but edged with challenge.
Collette’s lips curved into a patronizing smile. “Good morning, Hope. Ready to be humbled today?”
Hope’s jaw clenched, but she held her posture. “Good morning,” she replied coolly, adjusting the lapel of her own tailored jacket. “I hope you brought your A‑game.”
Noah glanced at Collette, then back to Hope. “Always.” He offered her a brief nod before sweeping past, Collette close behind.
Hope’s chest tightened—but there was no time to dwell. Penelope’s soft voice floated up from behind a sleek reception desk.
“Ms. Stanton—this way,” Penelope beckoned, stepping forward with a reassuring smile. Her eyes were bright with conviction. “Remember, I believe in you. Just be yourself.”
Hope managed a tight-lipped smile. “Thanks, Penelope.” She laid a hand on her PA’s arm. “I’ll need it.”
Together, they followed Noah and Collette through a narrow hallway into the heart of Vallence Luxury Holdings: The shareholder test chamber. The room was vast—walls lined with floor‑to‑ceiling windows, a single long mahogany table gleaming under recessed lights. Around it sat twenty of the company’s most influential shareholders, their faces a mix of curiosity and thinly veiled skepticism.
At the head of the table stood Mr. Langley, silver-haired and impeccably dressed, tapping a slim folder against the table. “Welcome,” he began, voice crisp. “As you know, today’s exercise will determine who leads Vallence into its next chapter. We expect clear strategy, strong numbers, and bold leadership.”
Hope swallowed. She caught Noah’s eye across the table—his expression unreadable. Collette gave Hope a subtle nod, as if to say, Brace yourself.
Penelope leaned in, whispering, “You’ve prepared for this. Just breathe.”
Hope inhaled slowly, letting her shoulders drop. She took her place between Collette and Noah, opened her folder, and met Mr. Langley’s gaze.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Hope began, voice steady, “I propose a three‑point plan to increase Vallence’s market share by twenty percent within eighteen months, starting with—”
Mr. Langley raised a gloved hand. “Before you dive in, a brief scenario: Our flagship London boutique faces a sudden 30% drop in high‑net‑worth foot traffic. What’s your immediate response?”
Collette’s lips twitched, eager. But Hope didn’t flinch. She tapped her pen against her notes, then smiled. “First, deploy a targeted VIP outreach campaign—leveraging our existing client database for personal invitations to exclusive events. Second, partner with neighboring luxury brands for co‑hosted experiences to drive cross‑traffic. And third, introduce limited‑edition capsule collections, available only in London, to create urgency.”
A murmur rippled through the room. Langley nodded thoughtfully. “And cost projections?”
Hope flicked a chart onto the projector screen behind her: color‑coded bars and concise bullet points. “Projected ROI within three months, net gain of 12% revenue after initial marketing spend. Full 30% recovery by month six, based on similar past campaigns.”
Noah’s eyebrows rose—impressed despite himself. Collette’s jaw clenched. Penelope squeezed Hope’s hand under the table.
One of the shareholders tapped the folder shut. “Solid. Next: supply‑chain disruption in Asia delays our fall shipments by six weeks. Plan?”
Hope’s gaze flicked to her notes again, then back up. “Activate secondary European suppliers we vetted last quarter, already contracted at backup rates. Simultaneously, negotiate expedited shipping for core pieces, passing a nominal surcharge to clients willing to pre‑order at a premium. This preserves margins and brand exclusivity.”
He leaned back, steepling his fingers. “Impressive agility.” He glanced at the other shareholders, who exchanged nods.
Hope felt a surge of confidence. The test was no longer a battleground—it was a stage, and she was ready to perform. She straightened, heart pounding—not with fear, but with the exhilaration of proving, once again, that she belonged here.
Behind her, Penelope’s whispered encouragement was the only thing she needed: “You’ve got this.”
Hope stood up, clearing her throat and was fully ready for the test when her eyes began to dim. She found her fingers weak and legs weak beneath her. She slumped as her eyes closed, tucking into Penelope's embrace.
