Chapter 72
Lucas nervously paced back and forth in his luxurious office, his mind preoccupied with the safety of his ex-wife, Kiara. He couldn't shake off the feeling that Liam, her new boyfriend, was up to no good. Lucas knew Liam was after Kiara's wealth, and he had to take action to protect her.
He picked up the phone and dialed a number he had been given by a trusted friend. The phone rang a few times before a gruff voice answered.
"Hello?" the voice said.
"Is this the secret agent?" Lucas asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes, it is. Who's this?"
"My name is Lucas, and I need your services. I need you to watch and monitor my ex-wife, Kiara. I have reason to believe that her new boyfriend is out to destroy her and take all her wealth."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line. Lucas held his breath, waiting for a response.
"I can help you," the secret agent said finally. "But it won't come cheap."
"I don't care about the cost. I just want to make sure Kiara is safe."
"Understood. I'll start my surveillance immediately."
Lucas felt a weight lift off his shoulders as he hung up the phone. He knew he had made the right decision. He trusted the secret agent to keep Kiara safe.
Days turned into weeks, and Lucas heard nothing from the secret agent. He began to worry that Kiara was in danger. But then one day, the secret agent called.
"Lucas, I have some information for you," the agent said.
"What is it?" Lucas asked, his heart pounding in his chest.
"Liam is definitely after Kiara's wealth. He's been meeting with a lawyer and trying to gain access to her accounts. But don't worry, I've got everything under control. I've put a stop to it."
Lucas breathed a sigh of relief. He knew he had made the right decision in hiring the secret agent.
"Thank you," he said. "Thank you for keeping Kiara safe."
"It's what I do," the secret agent replied.
Lucas hung up the phone and smiled. He knew that, with the secret agent on the job, Kiara was in good hands.
As he sat within the comfort of his office later on, Lucas realized that he had to tell Kiara what Liam was up to but he had a feeling that she might not believe him but still, he knew he had to try.
He stood up nervously with his phone in hand. He was contemplating calling her, but his gut feeling finally got the better of him. With a deep breath, he dialed her number and waited for her to answer.
"Hello?" Kiara's voice sounded distant and uninterested.
"Hey, it's me, Lucas," he said hesitantly.
"What do you want, Lucas?" she asked, her tone icy.
"I need to talk to you about something important. It's about Liam," Lucas said, his heart racing.
Kiara scoffed. "What about him?"
"I think he's out to destroy you, Kiara. I think he's only after your money and your wealth," Lucas said urgently.
"That's ridiculous," Kiara replied, her voice dismissive. "You're just jealous, Lucas. Liam and I have something real."
"I'm not jealous, Kiara. I'm worried about you. You don't know him like I do," Lucas pleaded.
"I know him well enough," Kiara said, her voice rising. "And I don't need your concern or your opinion on my relationship. I'm happy, and that's all that matters."
Lucas tried to reason with her, but Kiara was having none of it. She cut him off, saying she had to go and ending the call before he could say anything else.
Lucas sighed heavily, knowing that he had failed to convince her. He couldn't shake the feeling that Liam was up to no good, but he knew that he couldn't force Kiara to see it. All he could do was hope that she would come to her senses before it was too late.

Kiara sat on the couch, her mind racing with thoughts about Liam. They had only been dating for a few months, but something didn't feel right. Liam had been acting strangely lately, and Kiara couldn't quite put her finger on what it was.
She watched as Liam paced back and forth, his phone pressed to his ear. He seemed nervous and fidgety, which was unlike him. Kiara wanted to ask him what was wrong, but she hesitated. She didn't want to seem paranoid or accusatory.
Instead, Kiara tried to brush off her suspicions and focused on the movie they were supposed to be watching. But she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Liam's behavior was just too strange.
As the movie ended, Liam jumped up from the couch and grabbed his jacket. "I have to go," he said abruptly.
Kiara's heart sank. She knew that something was definitely wrong now. "Is everything okay?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
Liam hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, everything's fine," he said, but his eyes darted away from her.
Kiara knew that something was up, but she decided to keep her thoughts to herself. She didn't want to push Liam away by accusing him of something without proof.
Over the next few days, Liam continued to act strangely. He was distant and avoided spending time with Kiara. She tried to talk to him, but he always seemed to have an excuse.
Finally, Kiara couldn't take it anymore. She confronted Liam, and he finally came clean. He had been struggling with some personal issues and didn't want to burden her with them. Kiara was relieved that it wasn't anything more serious, but she also wished that Liam had been honest with her from the beginning.
From that moment on, Kiara promised herself that she wouldn't ignore her instincts again. She realized that it was better to trust her gut and speak up, rather than keeping her thoughts to herself and letting things fester. She laughed at herself a little, wondering how on earth she had believed what Lucas said. He was just being delusional and nothing more and now, she was just glad that she had her boyfriend back.
