Chapter 151: Damien's POV

"ENOUGH!" he roars, shifting into his massive wolf form.

He's enormous. Scarred. A rogue Alpha who's survived decades through pure vicious strength, and he's coming straight for Riley.

I intercept him, my spectral wolves manifesting by the dozens, but he plows through them like they're nothing, his focus singular.

Kill Riley. Break Damien. Win the war.

Riley doesn't run. Through the bond, I feel her plant her feet, gathering every drop of Luna-born power she possesses.

When Axel lunges, she doesn't dodge.

She meets him head-on.

Luna-born light erupts from her hands, slamming into the rogue Alpha with enough force to crack stone. Axel howls in pain and fury, but he's strong. Too strong.

He keeps coming, and Riley, exhausted from constant fighting, starts to falter.

Damien…

I'm here.

I hit Axel from the side with everything I have. Alpha corruption blazing gold, spectral wolves tearing at him from all angles, and through the bond, Riley's power mixing with mine until we're both burning with combined energy.

The rogue Alpha staggers. Falls. And for a moment, I think we've won.

Then I hear the whistle.

Sharp. Piercing. A hunter's signal.

Selene Draven appears on the ramparts, her bow drawn, and I realize with horror what she's targeting.

Not me. Not Riley. Not any fighter.

The inner sanctum. Where the evacuated students and non-combatants are sheltered.

She has a dozen hunters with her, all with bows aimed at the same target, and their arrows aren't normal, they glow with a sickly green light.

Poison. Designed to spread. To kill dozens with each shot.

"She's going to…" Professor Liora starts, but she's too far away.

Selene releases her arrow, and the other hunters follow.

A volley of death, aimed at the defenseless.

"NO!" Riley screams, and through the bond I feel her make a choice.

She can dodge. Can save herself. Can let Professor Liora or someone else deal with Selene's attack.

Or she can do what Lunas do.

Protect the pack.

Riley throws herself between the poisoned arrows and the academy, and every drop of Luna-born power she possesses explodes outward in a shield.

Silver light meets poisoned death, and holds.

Through the bond, I feel the strain. Feel Riley being crushed by the weight of protecting hundreds of lives. Feel her starting to break.

Riley, you can't hold that…

I have to, she sends back, and I feel her absolute determination. They're my pack. Even if they don't all accept me. They're mine to protect.

The shadow fragment inside her surges, adding its strength to hers, and through the bond, I pour everything I have into her.

My corruption. My strength. My will.

Together, we hold the shield.

Together, we protect Silverwood.

The poisoned arrows disintegrate against Riley's barrier, turned to ash before they can reach their targets.

Selene, seeing her attack fail, snarls in fury and draws another arrow, this one aimed directly at Riley.

But Jaxon is faster.

The enforcer heir launches himself at the rampart, his warrior training making him a blur of violence. He reaches Selene before she can release, and they clash in brutal combat.

She's good. Deadly. The Silver Huntress earned her reputation.

But Jaxon is better.

He disarms her, pins her, and within seconds she's restrained.

"The huntress is down!" he shouts, and I see despair flash through enemy ranks.

Riley's shield dissolves. She staggers, and I catch her before she falls.

Through the bond, I feel her exhaustion. Her triumph. Her absolute certainty that the sacrifice was worth it.

Around us, the battle shifts.

The rogues see Selene Draven captured. See the rogue Alpha wounded. See Seraphine and Elder Selwyn engaged in losing battles against Cassian and our combined forces, and they break.

Not all at once. Not organized. But in ones and twos, rogues start fleeing. Hunters drop weapons and run. The Purist sympathizers scatter.

"HOLD!" Axel roars, trying to rally them. "STAND AND FIGHT!"

But it's too late. The tide has turned.

My father, bloodied but unbowed, leads the charge. The heirs, Jaxon, Cassian, Lucien, coordinate the final push. Allied wolves surge forward, and the enemy routs.

Completely. Decisively. Permanently.

Axel Vandal, seeing his army fleeing, makes one last desperate lunge for Riley.

He doesn't make it.

My father intercepts him, and Alpha meets Alpha in a clash that shakes the ground.

It's brutal. Vicious. Two leaders fighting for their vision of the future.

And my father wins.

Axel falls, his throat torn, his amber eyes going dark.

The rogue Alpha is dead.

Which leaves only Seraphine and Elder Selwyn.

Seraphine, realizing the battle is lost, attempts one final illusion. Copies of herself fleeing in different directions.

But Riley, exhausted and furious, does something I've never seen before.

She reaches out with Luna-born power and simply... reveals.

Like pulling back a curtain, her power strips away every illusion on the battlefield. Every false image. Every mental trick.

And there's Seraphine. The real one. Frozen in shock that her specialty has been countered so completely.

Guards surround her. Bind her. Drag her to her knees.

"It doesn't matter," she spits, her icy-blue eyes defiant even in defeat. "You can't stop what we started. There are others. More who believe. The Purists will rise again…"

"No," Riley says, her voice carrying across the battlefield with Luna authority I didn't know she possessed.

"They won't, because we just proved that bloodline purity is a lie. That outsiders can stand. That love is stronger than tradition, and everyone here witnessed it."

Through pack bonds, I feel the truth of her words resonate. Guards. Warriors. Students watching from windows.

Everyone saw Riley protect the pack. Saw her stand when she could have run. Saw her prove her worth beyond any doubt.

Which leaves Elder Selwyn.

Cassian stands over his grandfather, bloodied and breathing hard. Elder Selwyn is down, wounded, beaten, but alive.

"Finish it," Elder Selwyn says, looking up at his grandson. "You've won. Kill me. Prove you're as ruthless as I taught you to be."

Cassian's blade trembles. Through pack bonds, I feel his war.

He could kill. Could end the man who betrayed everything. Could exact justice with his own hands.

Instead, he lowers his blade.

"No," Cassian says quietly. "I'm not like you. I don't solve problems with murder. You'll face the Council. Face justice. Face the consequences of your choices."

He looks at the guards. "Take him. All of them. Separate cells. Full containment."

As guards drag Elder Selwyn away, the old man laughs bitterly. "You're weak, grandson. Just like I feared. Weakness will destroy you."

"No," Cassian says, and I hear strength in his voice I've never heard before. "Mercy isn't weakness. It's the difference between us and you."

Elder Selwyn is hauled away, still spitting poison about bloodlines and purity.

But nobody's listening anymore, because the battle is over.

We won.

The battlefield falls silent except for the moans of the wounded and the ragged breathing of survivors.

Two hundred enemies came for us. Maybe fifty escaped. The rest are dead, captured, or wounded.

We paid a price. I see bodies of guards, allied wolves, students who fought despite their youth.

But we survived. Silverwood survived.

I feel Riley collapse against me, exhaustion finally claiming her.

"We did it," she whispers.

"We did," I agree, holding her close.

Around us, wolves begin to howl. Not in battle fury. In victory. In relief. In the primal celebration of survival, and through it all, I hold my mate and think about everything we just proved.

That love conquers hate. That character matters more than bloodline.

That Silverwood's future is brighter than its past.
