Chapter 291: I Am Your Father

Mason showing up to apologize—was Charles the one who forced him to come?

Pinning all the blame on someone else. That was definitely Charles's specialty.

Seraphine closed her eyes. After a long silence, she asked Nicole in a low voice.

"If I refuse to see Mason, will he just leave quietly?"

"No."

Nicole thought for a moment, then shook her head with certainty.

She paused, then added another line.

"Jason's guards are stationed all around the studio. Without your permission, Mason can't get inside. But knowing Mason's personality, he definitely won't give up on you."

"For the next while, he'll find every way possible to corner you. He might even do something reckless."

Charles and his friends were all obsessive lunatics.

Seraphine pinched the bridge of her nose and let out a long, weary sigh.

"Fine. Go bring Mason in. Oh, and when you come back with him, bring a few guards along too. You're right—Mason's mental state has never been stable. We need to be ready for anything."

"Got it."

Nicole shrugged, then immediately turned and headed out of the office.

……

"Thank God, Seraphine! You're finally willing to see me."

Before long, Mason appeared before Seraphine. The moment he stepped through the door, he cried out.

"Seraphine, I came here today to confess to you. Before, I was manipulated by that bitch Vivian. I thought you were some worthless idiot with no redeeming qualities, and I thought you weren't good enough for Charles."

"To ruin your relationship with Charles and help Vivian marry him, I did a lot of things to hurt you. I even hurt your friends."

"But now I've come to my senses. I see Vivian for who she really is, and I'll never help her do anything bad again. You're a kind person—you'll forgive me, won't you?"

"I'm begging you, go find Charles and remarry him! As long as you're willing to go back to Charles, I'll do anything you ask. Please?"

Why did all this sound so familiar?

Oh, right. She remembered now.

A few days ago, when Charles and Sean came to see her, they'd said almost the exact same thing.

Charles and his friends were a joke. Even their apologies came from the same template.

But she really did despise them.

Why should she have to forgive them just because they apologized?

What did Charles and Mason think she was?

Seraphine closed her eyes. After a long silence, she slowly asked Mason.

"Are you done crying?"

"What?"

Mason hadn't expected her to stay so calm when he was this distraught.

His breathing hitched. He stopped his sobbing instinctively and turned his gaze to Seraphine.

"If you're done crying, you can leave. Oh, and do me a favor—give Charles a message for me. Tell him that every word I said to him last time was serious."

"No matter what he does to win me back, I will never go back to him. Also, I can't stand him. If he doesn't want the Stuart Group to keep taking hits, then he should stop sending you to bother me."

Did she even know what she was saying?

Charles was the man she loved most. She'd used underhanded tactics to get into Charles's bed just to have him—how could she possibly be disgusted by Charles?

If she really didn't want Charles anymore, then what was Mason supposed to do?

Charles had already lost it.

If Mason couldn't get her forgiveness, Charles would definitely throw him in prison.

No. No way.

He couldn't spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Mason broke down. He shot to his feet and lunged at Seraphine like a madman.

"What gives you the right not to forgive me? I apologized to you! Aren't you supposed to be so generous? You have to forgive me! Come on, come with me to see Charles right now and beg him on my behalf. Tell him to stop going after me and my family's company."

"Get away from me. Don't come any closer."

Seraphine had already guessed that Mason would lose it once she turned him down. Before he could get near her, she backed up several steps, putting distance between them.

The guards who'd entered the office with Mason reacted quickly too. Seeing Mason lose control, they immediately stepped forward and pinned him to the floor at top speed.

"Seraphine, what's going on in here? Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

Madison walked in from outside with a middle-aged man, arriving just in time to witness the scene.

Her face went pale. She rushed over to Seraphine, grabbed her by the arm, and pulled her behind her, then shot Mason several wary glances.

"You're Mason? Weren't you arrested by the police? Which bastard bailed you out?"

Once she got a clear look at Mason's face, Madison's expression darkened further.

She turned toward the door of Seraphine's office and barked an order.

"Get to the bottom of this right now. I want to know who keeps protecting Mason over and over again."

"Yes, ma'am."

Madison's assistant and guards must have been waiting just outside. At the sound of her voice, a low male voice answered immediately from beyond the door.

"Madison, don't worry. I'm fine. Jason's guards are solid."

Seraphine's eyes flickered. She quickly patted Madison's back to calm her down, then had the guards drag the still-struggling Mason out of the room.

"Who's this?"

Once her office had finally returned to quiet, she slowly lifted her gaze and turned her attention to the middle-aged man who'd come in with Madison.

She'd already guessed who the man was, but she wanted him to introduce himself.

She wanted to see how that heartless man would introduce himself.

Seeing Seraphine's attention shift to the middle-aged man, Madison's body went stiff. The anger on her face instantly transformed into awkwardness.

Fortunately, the middle-aged man stayed composed.

"Savannah, I'm your father. My name is Richard."

Meeting Seraphine's icy gaze, Richard took a step forward, a gentle smile on his face.

"You may not remember me anymore, but I need you to know—I've been looking for you all these years. I've missed you. I came here to apologize to you."
