Chapter One Hundred And Thirty Five
Chapter One Hundred And Thirty Five
Serena’s Pov
When Adrien walked into the living room that afternoon, I felt my heart ease a little. He had just returned from a meeting, still in his suit, his tie slightly loosened, and that serious expression he always wore when something was wrong.
“Serena,” he said softly, walking towards me. “What’s wrong?”
I swallowed hard. I had been rehearsing how to say it since I left Killian’s house, but now that Adrien stood before me, the words felt heavier than I expected.
“Killian tried to… force me to have sex with me,” I managed to say, my voice trembling.
Adrien froze. “What?”
I nodded quickly, trying to hold back the tears that were already stinging my eyes.
“He said he wanted to talk about the divorce papers, but when I got there, he tried to make a move on me. He said if I didn’t come back to him, he would upload something online that would make me look bad.”
Adrien clenched his fists. His jaw tightened, and the calmness in his face vanished.
“He did what?”
I blinked back my tears.
“I pushed him off, Adrien. I kicked him and bit his arm. I ran out before he could do anything else.”
He took a deep breath, trying to keep his anger under control, but I could see it building behind his eyes like a storm about to break.
“He touched you?” he asked again, he asked in a low tone.
“Not for long,” I said quickly. “I fought back before it got worse.”
Adrien turned around and ran a hand through his hair. He paced across the room for a few seconds before turning back to me.
“That bastard thinks he can threaten you and get away with it?”
“Adrien, please,” I said, standing up to hold his arm. “I just wanted to tell you before things got out of hand. I don’t want Theo to see us fighting or to know what his father tried to do.”
Adrien looked at me, his chest rising and falling heavily.
“Serena, I’m not going to let that man walk around like he did nothing. You’re my woman, and no one tries to hurt you and gets away with it.”
“Adrien…”
“I don’t care if he didn't sign the divorce papers,” he said, cutting me off. “You belong to me now. Not him. He lost that right the moment he chose to destroy your peace.”
One could tell from his tone that he was completely furious. For a moment, I just stared at him, not sure whether to stop him or to let him do what his anger demanded.
“What are you going to do?” I asked softly.
Adrien then looked down at me.
“I’m suing him.”
My eyes widened. “You’re what?”
He walked to the table, grabbed his phone, and started dialing a contact.
“He made you uncomfortable, tried to manipulate you, and emotionally tormented you with that fake marriage bond he’s holding over your head. The fact that he refused to sign those divorce papers means he’s intentionally trying to control you.”
“Adrien, please wait…” I said, trying to calm him down.
But it was too late. The call connected.
“Collins,” Adrien said firmly into the phone. “I need you to prepare a suit against Killian Blackwood. Emotional distress, harassment, manipulation, everything that applies.”
I could hear his lawyer’s muffled voice on the other end, probably asking questions, and Adrien’s tone remained cold.
“No, it’s not about the company. It’s personal. My partner’s ex-husband has been tormenting her, using unsigned divorce papers to mess with her life. File it immediately.”
Then he ended the call and turned back to me. “It’s done.”
I sighed. “Adrien, do you think that’s really necessary? He didn’t actually hurt me…”
Adrien stepped closer, his eyes looking dangerous.
“He tried to, Serena. That’s enough. You shouldn’t have to live in fear of what he’ll do next. You’ve suffered enough because of that man.”
I sat down on the couch, feeling both relieved and nervous.
“I just don’t want more drama, Adrien. Every time something happens with Killian, it turns into a storm.”
He crouched down in front of me and took my hands in his.
“Then let me be the one to deal with the storm. You’ve fought alone for too long.”
His words softened the weight in my chest. For the first time since the incident, I felt safe, like someone was finally standing beside me, not just watching from afar.
Maybe that was what I needed.
Later that evening, the legal documents were drafted. Adrien had already instructed his team to handle everything quietly and the next day, the lawsuit was filed.
Killian’s reaction was immediate. He sent me a long text full of rage, claiming I had turned Adrien against him and that I was ruining his reputation, but I didn’t reply. Instead, I blocked his number and handed my phone to Ryan to monitor any incoming messages.
Two days later, we were in court. The atmosphere was tense. Killian sat across from us, his expression unreadable. He looked like a man who had lost everything but was still pretending to be in control.
Adrien’s lawyer then stood up first.
“Your honor, the plaintiff’s partner, Miss Calloway, has been mentally and emotionally disturbed due to the defendant’s refusal to sign their divorce papers, and his repeated attempts to manipulate her through emotional blackmail.”
Killian’s lawyer immediately objected. “There is no solid proof of harassment. This is simply a misunderstanding between ex-spouses.”
Adrien leaned back, unfazed. His presence alone filled the courtroom with intimidation. I sat beside him, my palms cold, trying to keep calm.
The judge then looked through the documents before speaking.
“So, Miss Calloway, you are saying that the defendant attempted to force contact with you despite your separation?”
“Yes, Your Honor,” I said in a calm tone. “He came to me under the pretense of discussing divorce papers, but his behavior was inappropriate. I had to fight him off to get away.”
Killian shifted uncomfortably but said nothing. His lawyer then stood again.
“Your Honor, there is no medical report, no recording, and no witnesses to support her claim.”
The judge nodded slowly. “However, the emotional toll is evident, and the defendant’s refusal to finalize the divorce despite clear intent from the plaintiff is a form of coercion.”
I could see Killian’s jaw tighten as he already looked ready to explode.
“This court cannot prosecute based on physical assault without evidence, but it recognizes the mental and emotional harm caused. Therefore, the defendant, Mr. Killian Blackwood, is ordered to compensate the plaintiff with five hundred thousand dollars for emotional distress and deliberate obstruction of personal peace.”
Killian’s lawyer tried to object, but the gavel came down firmly.
“Case closed.”
Adrien let out a quiet breath beside me, his eyes still fixed on Killian. Killian then turned towards me, his eyes full of hatred and humiliation. For the first time, I saw him truly defeated; not just angry, but broken by the realization that I wasn’t afraid of him anymore.
As we walked out of the courtroom, Adrien gently placed his hand on my back, guiding me through the reporters that were already gathering outside.
“Are you okay?” he asked me out of concern.
I nodded faintly. “I am now.”
He looked down at me, a small smile tugging at his lips.
“Good. Because this is just the beginning. I’m not stopping until you’re completely free from him.”
