Chapter 72: Fucked it all up.
Lucas' POV
We were back at the office now, which was not what I expected at all. I had told Andrew about what had happened and he insisted it was my fault and that I was the one that started it all.
Maybe I knew that it was all my fault, maybe I didn't, but either way, I would not admit it to him that I do because I would never hear the end of it.
I didn't plan to go to the office late today because I have quite the number of appointments, but I had to stay home and brainstorm with Andrew on how to go about it. Was it useful to me? No.
I genuinely regretted staying home with him because all he did was blame me — even if I was to be blamed — rather than tell me how to go about getting her to forgive me. I had even asked him to ask Lila seeing as he and Lila seemed to be having a thing, but he said she'd rather I rot in hell than hear from him that I wanted to get Amara back.
In summary, I just wasted time and met traffic for nothing.
That was all in the past though because I had arrived at the company now, and walking in, I saw Lila and Amara coming to the elevator from Amara's office.
This was the best time to meet her and show her that I really care about her and want to talk with her at least.
“Amara.” I called as I walked forward, trying my hardest to ignore the glare Lila was shooting my way.
It seemed like she hadn't seen me before because as I called her name, she looked at me with a shocked expression before rolling her eyes as if frustrated.
Ahhh fuck.
“I'll see you later, Lila. I have quite a bit of work to do.” She said and turned away to head back to her office.
“Lila,...” I called to her friend as a second option and the only other chance I had. I know what Andrew had said was probably true, but there was no way she would say that in front of my face or refuse a direct order.
“Sir.” She replied with a cool, nice smile.
“I need your help with Amara. Tell her that I want to talk with her.”
“Oh no, Lucas. The only help you need is mental help. And I'll advise you stay the fuck away from my friend because you will not like what you see otherwise.
I guess the smile was just a facade and my thoughts was just me being delusional and dumb.
“I hope you haven't forgotten that I'm still your boss and I still have all right to let you go?”
“Yeah. And I hope you haven't forgotten that your company isn't at number one yet. There are a lot of higher companies out there, even lower that will fight to have me work for them just to find out the secret of your quick company growth, so go ahead and let me go and see if I don't get another job in a week.”
I laughed at everything she had said.
I loved it. I loved the fact that she knew her worth enough to stand up for herself rather than start begging me to keep her.
“Point taken.” I smiled and stretched my hand for a shake which she took with an equal and genuine smile of her own.
We both started walking away, when I decided that she was better safe than sorry.
“And Lila?” I called, turning around to face her. “Never make the mistake of calling by my first name. Ever again.”
Her face crumpled up in fear and I smiled at her. “Have a great day now. Miss Hart.”
“Have a great day at work, Mr Blackwell.” She hurried and left.
Well, that's down the drain. I have to find another way and if she doesn't want to do this the easy way, then we're going to do it the hard way.
••••••••••
“Yeah Ez. And I need you to tell Amara that we're attending a client meeting tomorrow so she has to be at work quite early.”
“Okay? But don't you have a personal assistant for that? For the past week, you've been sending Amara on quite a lot of errands that are not even in her job description. I'm surprised that she's not even complaining.”
“I know man, but I don't have anyone else that can help me with it and she's really good at it so yeah.”
He was right. Since that day when I met her with Lila, I started putting her onto jobs that will piss her off and put her in close proximity with me. I did that because I knew that in a situation like that, if she doesn't cave, then she'll yelll at me in anger at all the jobs I've been giving her, but it's not working.
So far, she's been treating everything very professionaly and hasn't even sighed or rolled her eyes once.
I was still going to find a way though to get her to talk to me in an unprofessional manner. I dont care if it was a pleasant word or a curse word, as long as it wasn't in a professional format, I would take it.
The day finally came where we were supposed to have the meeting with the client, and we did it.
It went smoothly, and while that's supposed to be a good thing, I wanted us to at least have a little fight. I had tried to make subtle jabs at her and when that didn't work, I started making not so subtle jabs that even had the client who we were meeting start getting uncomfortable, causing me to stop, but that didn't even affect her in the slightest.
She still had that smile that reached her eyes but didn't quite reach her eyes that she's had for the past week now.
Well, if she didn't want to lean in, then I'm going to have to let her go because not only am I stressing her out, I'm noticing the toll it's taking on her work even if she refused to admit it.
I've fucked shit up so bad for myself.
