Chapter 65: A taste of his own medicine.
Amara's POV
I felt so stupid this morning walking towards Lila's office to tell her about the experience I had yesterday, but now that I was closer to the office, I felt both stupid and dumb.
Maybe it would have been easier to tell her yesterday when the feeling was more of anger and pain than shame and regret, but she had gone home before I could be done with my work.
I low-key feel like she's mad at me too because on a normal day, she would have told me when she was about to leave but she didn't say anything to me throughout yesterday besides the conversation we had in the morning.
“Hey Lila.” I said softly as I walked into her cubicle eoyj caution, the cereal I had this morning sloshing in my stomach as fear flooded my heart.
I wasn't scared that she was going to yell at me or not be friends with me anymore because I knew for a fact that that was not going to be happen, but I had no assurance that she wasn't going to turn me away and refuse to offer me any comfort because she had already warned me before hand.
“Amara.” She smiled but instantly her smile fell away revealing worry amd concern as she got up from behind her desk and took a step towards me.
“Are you okay?” She took another step.
I nodded a yes and then shook my head a no before I burst into tears.
I was not crying because I was hurt by what happened yesterday, even if I was, but I was crying because after everything she still cares so much about me. I knew she would love me either way because she's a great person, but I didn't think she would show that much love today, most especially after she had severely warned and adviced me against everything I did in that office.
“Oh my goodness, my baby.” She hurried to me and wrapped me in a tight hug before pulling me away from the door and fully into the office.
“What happened?” She asked again as she pulled away from me after I'd regained a bit of myself.
“You didn't even tell me that you were going yesterday, and I know you were so mad because of how stupid I was acting and I'm really sorry. And you were right too. I was so fucking dumb.”
“No, Amara.” She hugged me again.
“Well, yes.” She pulled away. “You were so dumb, and you were acting so stupid, but I wasn't mad at you. I had an emergency and had to leave in a hurry. I planned to leave you a message but by the time I was free, it was already late, so I decided that I would see you today and tell you everything that had happened. I'd been up there and you hadn't arrived yet so I came back down.”
“Oh.” I sighed. “So you weren't mad at me?” I asked with a slight smile.
“No, I wasn't. Now come on. Come have a seat and tell me about everything that had happened between you two yesterday. Did you see him? Try to feed your delusions a little bit more?” She said the last part with a joking smirk on her face.
“No.” I said a little too loudly as I grabbed the seat she had offered. “Thank goodness I didn't go to meet him because if what happened had happened then I'd have buried myself alive. I'd have been so embarrassed.”
“Girl what happened then?” She was obviously anxious to know everything.
I heaved a sigh and began telling my tale. “....it was so bad that Andrew was even shocked. When I went back to my office, all I could think about was how stupid and embarrassing he must have found me when he……was having me on his table.”
Lila's mouth was hung open almost throughout the whole thing I was saying. Even now she was still looking at me with that stunned expression that I couldn't even tell if she was feeling bad for me or mad at me.
“Lila, come on. Say something.”
“He ordered you to go to your office because you had a lot of work to do.” She said it so softly in such a dead tone that sounded as if she was confessing to a heinous crime when in actuality, I was the one confessing to the crime.
“Yes.” I nodded softly, a bit worried at the very brutal look she was giving me.
“And you didn't slap him across the face?” She growled as she lowered a glare at me.
“I- I didn't know I was supposed to do that. I'm very sorry. Maybe next time?”
“Mm-mm.” She shook her head and her fingers in unison. “There ain't gon’ be no next time because you're staying away from him from now on.”
“What?!” I asked, my brain not fully inputting what she had just said.
“Mhmm.” She nodded. “You're going to keep your distance from that devil's incarnate.”
I scoffed. “Devil's incarnate when you're fooling around with Andrew? Pot calls kettle black for real. And by the way, you haven't told me what went down with you two.” I smirked and wiggled my brows at her.
“Girl, I'm talking about something important right now and you're talking about that?” She scolded.
“Shit. I'm sorry, ma'am.” I apologized and went back to cadet mode.
“It was really good though. I'll tell you all about it later.”
“Hehehe.” I giggled into my hands in excitement.
“Now, like I was saying, you're going to stay away from him.”
“How girl?” I asked in confusion. “We're literally on the same floor, and he's my boss, so I don't know if you know this but it's going to be very difficult to ignore him.”
“No, darling. It's actually going to be pretty easy.” She leaned in with a smug smile. “You already said the solution. He's your boss, so treat him strictly like a boss. Your boss. Don't even act like he's your brother's best friend, girl. Let's show him that two can play in this game. That's going to be pretty easy, right?”
“Right.” I nodded. “It's going to be really easy and fun.”
“Period girl.” She said as I got up to leave. “And make sure you keep me posted.”
“Sure thing.” I said and walked out, making my way up to my own floor.
Was this going to be fun? Yes. I'd be so glad to watch Lucas have a taste of his own medicine.
Is it going to be easy though?
No. Not at all.
