Chapter 38

Ivy opened her eyes, she was handcuffed to a bed, the room was spinning whatever they gave her made her sick to her stomach the room was nice and dark. She couldn’t speak because they were tape on her mouth.

Closing her eyes, she tried to remember what happened, the last thing she remembered was being forced to the ground by someone and then injected with something and then waking up here. Did Quinn know she was kidnapped by someone?

Lost in her thoughts, she didn’t realize the door opened and someone had turned the lights on, she closed her eyes, it was too boring for her.

“Finally, you’re awake.” The man said. “Don’t worry you are safe now.” He said dabbing her head with a white towel. “I am not going to let you speak because you will give your location away and I don’t want your dweller friends to come and steal you away.”

Ivy opened her eyes; she still couldn’t see her face.

“I bet you are wondering who I am, nodding your head.”

Ivy did as he requested.

“I was a friend of your parents, they sent word of your birth and they also sent word that you were in danger shortly before they were killed. I couldn’t get to you in time because Quinn had already started the process. I had to stand in the darkness until I could find you.” He said moving the cloth down her face. “I am going to take the tape off your mouth do not scream, you will alert the dark dwellers of our presence. Nod if you understand.”

She did.

He gently removed the tape. “My name is Samuel, I am a White Dweller, we are safe here, and it is protected as long as they don’t find us.” He said unhandcuffing her wrists. “I am sorry I had to do this.” He said moving away from her.

“Why?” she said slowly sitting her, she was still dizzy from the medicine. “I mean how did you get past the dwellers from the party, they were the only ones there?”

“Drake.” He said leaning against the wall. “Drake contacted me, and told me about the party, see Drake is my son, I lost him to Quinn, Drake but he has always loved me and would come to me when he needed me. When he told me you and he had a son and that you didn’t want to be with Quinn and wanted to escape and who your parents were, I put the pieces together and realized who you were. I am sorry Ivy that it had taken me this long to find you.”

“So, my parents didn’t want me to know about this, about who I am?” Ivy asked.

“They were going to teach you all about this, they thought they had time, but they didn’t realize Quinn already knew about you.” He said with a sad face. “He was already planning to kidnap you from school when Drake found you. Drake told me and I told your parents. They were already making arrangements to have you moved, but they were killed the same day this all happened.”

“Drake was supposed to bring you to Quinn, but you went to the hospital and then your Uncle, that stayed with you until Nick was put into place, they didn’t have a chance. Drake played his part a little too well. Things got messed up, and well here we are.” He said with a sad face.

“What will happen to Drake?” Ivy said getting to her feet.

“I am hoping he is okay, but knowing Quinn, he is going to get hurt.”

“Then you have to take me back there, everything was fine. I was just going to use the bathroom; I was thinking about escaping.” She said wanting to run back to him. “Wait where is the amulet?” she said looking down at her chest.

“I destroyed it, I don’t want him finding you, there is no going back there, you cannot go back to Quinn, and your parents knew what he was going to do to you. There is an army of dark dwellers that were going to attack Quinn and that city they were going to kill everyone there and take you. Quinn is going to pay for doing what he would have done.” He said walking towards her. “Ivy I promise Nick and his army will get Drake out of there safely, there is a war happening and you are safest here.”

“I don’t think you understand, I am not safe anywhere, you might think I am safe, but they will find me here and they will kill you if you don’t give me to them,” Ivy said putting her face in her hands. “I don’t want any more blood on my hands. “Please just let me go, I will keep running that way people won't have to die because I am with them, they will just keep chasing me.”

“Ivy I promised your parents that I would protect you, I am calling the white dwellers to come here, and we will make a plan.”

“They are going to arrest me,” Ivy said sitting back on the bed she felt like she was going to pass out. “I am not a white dweller.”

“No but you are not a dark dweller either, they are not going to arrest you.” He said walking over to her. “I promise they are not going to do anything to you, they are a lot different than Quinn is, and they aren’t power-hungry like he is.”

Ivy didn’t say anything, she wanted to believe him. She knew Nick was true to her and she loved him. But she wasn’t sure how he was now that she’s been away from him so long. She was scared to see him. She knew the last time she saw him, he still had the love in his eyes, but he was still determined to have her locked up.

“I wish Nick still loved me.” She said looking down at her hands.

“Who says I don’t?” Nick said walking into the room. “I haven’t stopped Ivy.” He said kneeling. “You’ve been away from me far too long.” He touched her face.

When his hand made contact with her face she felt his love all over again, she wasn’t sure what to expect but all her doubt went away, she embraced him and pulled him closer. She kissed him like he’d been away forever. “I’ve missed you so much.” She said pulling away. “What the hell took you so long?”

He chuckled. “What took you so long for that kiss?” He said kissing her again.

“Guys,” Samuel said. “We should head to the safe house; I am sure Quinn knows you and she are together.”

“Really?” Ivy said with a sad face. “I thought you said we’re safe here?”

“We were, but with your energies like that, I’m sure the whole Dweller world is on fire right now, you see you two dwellers are soul Dwellers.”

“Soul Dwellers?” they said in unison.

“Another time, let’s go.” He said leaving the room.

Ivy and Nick followed him out of the room and to a waiting car. Ivy was scared; she wasn’t sure where they were going. She was glad she was back with Nick, she felt safe.

“I’m so glad you are back,” Nick said pulling her closer to him. “When Samuel told me he found you and you were safe, I almost couldn’t contain myself. Mom and dad are going to be happy when they see you.” He said opening the door to the waiting car. “They are waiting at the safe house, we’re going to go underground, like Samuel said there is a war coming and we don’t want to be here when it happens.”

“What is going to happen to the people that are innocent,” Ivy asked as they got into the car.

“Death,” Nick said with a sad face. “But we cannot control what happens, things like this always happen, we will be fine though. Once the Council and everyone are done, we will come out of hiding and we will have to restore the things that are destroyed.”

“I want to make sure my son is safe; I don’t want Quinn gaining access to him.”

“We haven’t been able to find him,” Nick said looking at her. “If we cannot find him, I am pretty sure Quinn isn’t going to either.”

“I still want to ensure Quinn cannot find him, and they only want to be able to do that is to kill Quinn.”

“Ivy, are you listening to yourself?” Nick said looking at her. “You are saying you want to kill one of the most powerful people on the dark side? He isn’t going to be easy to kill, he has been in power longer than I have been alive and he isn’t going to be easy to get close to.”

“But I have been close to him.” Ivy challenged. “I can get close to him again.”

“Over my dead body,” Nick growled. “I am not going to let you put yourself in his arms again, we were only able to get to you by chance. Quinn isn’t going to let us get to you again.”

“But I want him dead, we have to kill him,” Ivy growled. “I don’t want to go through life knowing my son may be found and forced into this life as I have. I don’t want to worry about this until I am dead. I know Isaiah said he would ensure this doesn’t happen but now that I am not with Quinn he isn’t going to stop until he has my son.”

“Please Ivy we will figure this out. I will do something to kill Quinn, but I won't let you go and put yourself in his arms again.” Nick said looking out the window. “We will figure out a way to kill him and when we do that will be the end of the dark dwellers.”

“What about Drake? Samuel said Drake was his son.”

“I cannot change what Drake is, he is a dark dweller. Yes, he helped get to you, but we cannot change him to a white dweller, he will be arrested, trialed, and killed.” Nick said chewing on his nail. “Or we can let him live.”

“I don’t think we should kill him; he did help you get me out,” Ivy whispered. “You owe him that.”

“I promise Ivy I will do what I can for you and him since you and he share a son,” Nick said without looking at him. “But what the Council decides I am nothing to them when they do things.”

“I will make them pay for anything they decide harshly, some people deserve to die while others don’t.”

“We’re here,” Samuel said as he slowed the car down.

Ivy was nervous to see Nick's parents again, she was excited too, but she wasn’t sure how they would react now that she was there in front of them.

“Relax Ivy they are going to love you like they did when you saw them last,” Nick said opening the door. “Not much has changed, except they worried over where you were all this time, I’ve told them Samuel found you and I would bring you home safely.” He said waiting for her to slide out of the car.

“Sorry, this is all scary to me,” Ivy said hopping out of the car. “I am thankfully everyone is alive and happy to see me, I just want things to work out for us.”

“Ivy you don’t have to worry they are going to work out,” Nick said wrapping his arms around her. “I am going to make sure everyone is safe; Quinn is going to go down and you will be safe. We will find your son and make sure he grows up not knowing about us if that is what you want.”

“That is what I want,” Ivy said kissing him. “I don’t want him to have to worry about rituals, magic. Seeing the darks and the lights, even though I still cannot see anything, so that doesn’t make me feel different.”

“I still don’t know what you cannot see anything.”

“Maybe we can figure that out later,” Ivy said. “Why don’t we go inside before something happens?”
