Chapter 7 7
Cameron's POV
“Rise and shine gorgeous.” I sang as I drew the curtains and I heard a soft groan.
“Five more minutes.” Sheila muttered and I laughed, yanking off the blanket from her body. “Hey!” She yelled in protest.
“It's morning, wake up.” I told her.
She reluctantly sat up and I pushed the tray of breakfast I had brought, right in front of her. “Eat.” I urged her. “You need your strength for work, especially after last night's rigorous activity.”
She blushed at the mention of our little escapade the previous night. From the moment I had set my eyes on her at the party, I had wanted to pounce on her and rip off the dress with my teeth and make sweet, passionate love to her and when I got the chance to do so, I didn't hold back.
“It's like what, six in the morning? Why are you bringing me breakfast in bed?” She complained, poking the pancakes with her index finger.
I slapped her hands gently and shot her a dirty look.
“Don’t poke food with your hands!” I chastised and she pouted.
“It’s eight in the morning and you have about half an hour to eat breakfast, take a shower and get dressed.” I informed her.
“Why? Are we going somewhere?” She asked, as she shoved a mouthful of pancake into her mouth.
“Yes, you're resuming working today as the executive director of one of my companies and you have to meet with the rest of the board in two hour's time.”
She spat out the food in her mouth and almost choked, I handed her a glass of water and she gulped it down in one go.
“What do you mean I'm the executive manager of your company?” She asked, eyes widened in shock.
I shrugged, nonchalantly. “You passed the examinations you though I asked you not to and what do you expect? To sit home and be a full time housewife? I would've made you the CEO but I want to ensure things are in order. In a week or two, you'll be the official CEO.”
She was evidently taken aback as she stared at me like she had seen a ghost.
“As much as I'd love to stay and chat, I have to get going because I have a lot of appointments this morning.” I informed her, ready to leave.
“Dont you dare move an inch from that spot. You can't just drop a bombshell like that and disappear! What do I know about being an executive manager?” She threw at me and I chuckled, reaching out and patting her head.
“I believe in you, you've got this. I've got big plans for you Sheila, just stand back and watch it unfold.”
She scoffed and threw her hands up in the air. “Is this because of last night?”
“What?” I blurted, confused.
“Are you doing this because I slept with you? Listen, I may have been living a miserable life before you found me but I don't take over things thay I do not work for. I spit on women who use their body to climb to the top, I do not plan on threading that path so no, I reject your offer.” She intoned, her eyes had a hint of defiance and firmness.
I burst into laughter. “You think I'm giving you access to my company because we had sex last night? Little lamb, you know so little about me. I'm not giving it to you for free so work hard and prove to me that you deserve it.” I informed her, snapping my fingers, I cocked my head sideways and ran my fingers through my hair, staring intently at her.
“You want to take revenge on those who hurt you? Then you've got to learn to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way and if anyone accuses you of sleeping your way to the top, wear it like a badge of honor because you slept with the most powerful man alive.” I added and the tension in her eyes dissipated.
She sucked air through her teeth and gently nodded her head in agreement.
“I'll show you that I deserve it.”
“I'm counting on it Sheila, believe me. Give them hell, let the world know that the queen is back.” I advised, winking mischievously at her.
I could feel that my words lifted her spirits as I walked out of the room. A woman who wouldn't take advantage of her body was the perfect mate for me and though she doesn't know it yet, I'm about to make her so powerful that the world will cower in fear at the mention of her name.
Half an hour later, it arrived at my company and Jacob, my right hand man, brought the daily report to me. I looked through the files and made a phone call.
“Boss,” came a voice from the other end of the line.
“Did you get the information I asked you to?” I asked, straight to business.
“Yes I did boss, like you suspected, there are discrepancies in their financial reports and a loophole for laundering money, should I blow the whistle?”
I frowned deeply. “Not yet, stay at alert and procure enough shares to tip the scale, it will come in handy soon.”
“Okay boss.”
There was a static silence for a split second.
“Sheila will be resuming work today, your job is to ensure nothing goes wrong and nobody dares to trouble her.” I commanded, authoritatively.
There was a short pause, then he spoke. “Do you think she's ready?”
“Let's find out then, shall we?” I threw back then hung up.
A file marked confidential sat on top of other files and I opened it, it contained information about the packs who attempted to rebel against me and were not only engaging in illegal slave trade but also involved in a treacherous massacre decades ago.
“Boss, it's time for the meeting.” Jacob announced, bringing me back to reality.
“Okay.”
“Alpha Ren's men are also waiting, seeking audience with you.”
I guffawed. “Hear them out and take all the documents they have with them, invest some funds in their pack's company and put one of our men in charge.” I instructed.
“Yes, alpha.” Jacob intoned, sharp and respectfully.
“Alpha Ren, has he relinquished his title as Alpha?”
“News reached me that he did, early this morning but I'm sure it's a facade for something more sinister going on, I've sent out a few of our men to find out whatever it is.”
“Good. Go ahead, I'll be there in ten minutes.”
Joshua exited my office and I heaved a sigh. I knew Alpha Ren wouldn't relinquish his title that easily, I didn't want to forgive him for what he did to Kimberly and deep down, I want him to push me to the limit so mercilessly killing him would be justified.
Kimberly. The only family member I have left. I made a mental note to call her later that day, it's been weeks since I last heard from her.
I sighed and shoved the marked file into a cabinet and locked it with my fingerprint. A storm was brewing underneath and it was going to be explosive but I know it's coming so I'm prepared but before then, I have to ensure that everything is in order which is why I made Sheila executive manager.
She's my mate and the most powerful weapon at my disposal but for now, she's naive and doesn't know how to play these games but I'll teach her, break her down and build her into a lethal walking wolf.
Afterall, she's my mate.
