Olivia McDonald.
As I surveyed the vacant space, a sense of excitement and anticipation building within me, I pointed to the empty corner of the room, my eyes locking onto the spot where the finishing touches would soon bring the entire area to life. "You can just move the boxes over there," I instructed the men who were diligently helping me set up the furniture and shelves, their muscles rippling beneath their worn jeans as they carefully lifted and rearranged the heavy pieces. "I'll take care of cleaning them up after," I added, a nod of appreciation directed towards them.
I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of gratitude towards these men as I watched them work together in perfect harmony, their movements fluid and synchronized as they transformed the space into a cozy boutique. The sound of hammering on wood, the soft rustle of wrapping paper, and the gentle hum of laughter filled the air, creating a symphony of activity that was both invigorating and soothing. As I watched, a sense of pride and accomplishment began to grow within me, knowing that this was more than just a physical space - it reflected my passion and dedication to creating a haven for like-minded individuals.
With each passing moment, the room began to take shape, its blank canvas slowly giving way to a warm and inviting atmosphere. The scent of fresh wood and polished metal wafted through the air, mingling with the sweet aroma of freshly brewed coffee, enticing the senses and drawing me in. As I gazed around at the men hard at work, their faces etched with concentration and determination, I felt a sense of belonging wash over me, as if I was exactly where I was meant to be.
The transformation seemed like a magical experience, with every carefully crafted detail reflecting the essence of creativity and innovation.
I stepped out of the boutique, taking a deep breath of the fresh air and gazing out at the vibrant colors of the Jamaican streets. It was finally happening–my new boutique, Island Vibes, was opening its doors in just a few days. I had worked tirelessly to bring this dream to life, and I couldn't wait to share it with the world. First, it was my beauty salon, now this. It was so exciting.
As I made my way back to the store, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I smiled, seeing Blake's name on the screen. It had been a few months since we started dating. I had to admit, I was still getting used to the idea of having him in my life. The man never gave up. He had pursued me relentlessly for two years, refusing to give up after I initially rejected him. Now that I think about it, two years were a long time, and it was evil of me. Well, at least I know that his feelings for me are real. My grandma and cousins also love him, so that's the best thing, although I think he spoils Paris too much. Every time she sees him, she would expect to receive some lavish gift. I mind my business when it comes to those two because they made it clear the first time that I didn't have much to say.
"Hey, love," he said. "I just arrived and I'm at the house. How's the boutique coming along?"
"Why didn't you tell me that you were coming so that I could pick you up from the airport?" Blake was the one who motivated me to get my learners. He taught me how to drive and then I got my official driver’s license.
"I had my driver. He dropped me here. I wanted to surprise you, babe, and at the same time, I didn't want to stress you out."
I let out a deep sigh, feeling the weight of my emotions settling in. "You could never stress me, Blake," I said, trying to sound calmer than I felt. "I would have no problem picking you up and it would have been beneficial for me as well, because I miss you like crazy." The words spilled out of me, a mixture of longing and frustration, as I thought about the distance between us.
Blake's chuckle on the other end of the line was like music to my ears. It was a warm, soothing sound that immediately lifted my mood. His laughter was infectious, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of joy wash over me. It made me feel all bubbly inside, like a fizzy soda that was about to overflow.
"Not to worry, sweetheart," Blake said, his voice filled with reassurance. "We'll see each other soon."
"I can't wait," I replied with a smile that seemed to be stuck on my face. "As for the boutique, it's almost ready, Blake. Just a few more days and we'll be open for business."
"Ah, fantastic! I'd love to take you out to celebrate. How about a boat trip tonight?"
My heart skipped a beat at the suggestion. Blake knew exactly how to make me feel special. "That sounds amazing," I said, trying to sound casual.
"Alright, baby," He said, making me smile. I loved his accent and it sounded even better when he would call me baby. It was such a simple endearment, but sounded so extravagant coming from his lips. "I have to hang up soon. Your grandma wants me to come and eat." I chuckled at his words, shaking my head in amusement. One thing was for sure, you would never be in the presence of my grandma and be hungry. Her cooking was legendary, and her portions were always generous.
"I can imagine," I said, laughing at the thought. "I'm sure she's been cooking up a storm in the kitchen." I could almost hear my grandma's cheerful voice in the background, urging him to come and eat. It was a familiar scene, one that brought a sense of comfort and normalcy to our conversation.
As I walked through the door, I couldn't help but feel a flutter in my chest. I had been thinking about Blake all day, wondering what he was up to, and whether he would be thinking about me, too. And now, here he was, standing in my bedroom, his eyes locked on mine.
He looked up from the book he was reading, his expression softening as he took in my presence. I could feel the air thicken with tension as we locked eyes, the world around us melting away.
I felt a shiver run down my spine as I took in the sight of him. His dark hair was messy and endearing, his eyes burning with a warmth that made me feel alive. He was standing by the window; the sunlight casting a golden glow over his features, making him look like a work of art.
I walked towards him, my heart pounding in my chest, my feet moving of their own accord. As I reached him, he closed the book and set it aside, his eyes never leaving mine.
He reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair behind my ear, his fingers grazing against my skin. I felt a spark of electricity run through me as I met his gaze, my breath catching in my throat.
And then, without another word, he leaned in and kissed me.
It was like nothing I had ever experienced before. His lips were gentle, yet firm and insistent. He tasted like mint and coffee, and his tongue danced against mine with a slow, sensual rhythm.
I felt like I was melting into him, like we were two pieces of a puzzle that fit together perfectly. The world around us disappeared, leaving only the two of us lost in each other's eyes.
As we pulled back for a moment, our eyes met, and I knew that this was it. This was what I had been searching for all along.
"Hi," he whispered against my lips.
"Hi," I whispered back. "I'll go and get ready. I won't be long."
He pulls me in for another kiss before allowing me to go and get ready.
As we set off into the sea, the sun dipping below the horizon painted the sky with hues of pink and orange. The breeze carried the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the sound of reggae music drifted from a nearby boat. We sipped champagne and laughed together as we navigated through the calm waters.
As the stars began to twinkle above, Blake took my hand, his fingers intertwining with mine in a gentle squeeze. "I'm so glad I didn't give up on you," he said.
I smiled, feeling my heart swell with affection. "I'm glad you didn't either. I'm so sorry that I have you a hard time." I replied, looking up at him with adoration.
He cups my cheeks, his dark eyes burning into mine. "That's alright, Olivia. I don't hold it against you."
We spent the rest of the evening lost in each other's eyes, watching the stars twinkling above us like diamonds scattered across the sky. As we drifted back to shore, I felt grateful for this moment—for Blake's persistence and for our love.
As we walked off the boat, Blake stopped suddenly and turned to face me. "Olivia," he said, his voice trembling with emotion. "From the moment I met you, I knew that you were someone special. You're kind, smart, and beautiful inside and out. And I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy."
My heart skipped a beat as he got down on one knee and pulled out a small box from his pocket. This was not happening. It can't be. We only started dating several months ago. "Will you marry me?" he asked, his eyes shining with love and adoration.
Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I took in the beauty of the ring sparkling in front of me. It was perfect—the man on his knees before me was perfect. I never dreamed of ever getting married, especially to the first man I dated.
"Yes?" I whispered, my voice trembling with emotion. That didn't even sound right, so I repeated my words. This time more sure and confident. "Yes, Blake. I'll marry you."
Blake laughed before he slid the ring onto my finger, and we shared a kiss as the stars twinkled above us. We hugged each other tightly. "I'm sorry it wasn't as romantic as I planned, but I couldn't wait to ask you."
I laugh. "Are you kidding me? We just had the most beautiful date that any woman would wish for and then you proposed. There's nothing more romantic, Blake."
"I love you," Blake whispered into my ear.
"I love you too," I replied, feeling grateful for this moment and for this man who had captured my heart.
As we stood there on the dock, the magic of Jamaica’s night sky surrounded us, and I knew that our love story was just beginning—one that we would fill with laughter, tears, and adventures that would last a lifetime.
