Chapter 100 — Madison
As the summer weeks clipped past, Kade and I settled into a routine.
We had dates on Friday and Saturday nights. Sometimes those dates involved fancy restaurants with white tablecloths. And sometimes they involved pizza delivery and binge-watching Virgin River.
He started sleeping over two nights a week.
Sometimes we just held each other and slept. Other times he rocked my world.
In the process of having this time together, we learned that we had more common interests than we’d known.
At some point after our separation, we’d both taken up jogging. So on Saturday mornings, we’d load up and go jogging in Memorial Park.
We’d have lunch with his mother and dinner with my family or vice-versa.
We didn’t talk about our relationship. We simply lived our relationship.
History did, indeed, repeat itself.
But I was constantly aware of the steady ticking of the clock counting down the days until I got on that plane and moved into my apartment in Denver.
I used the slow times at work to prepare lectures for my classes. Although it was a good use of time, it kept my impending move at the front of my mind.
I wished every day for time to slow down.
But the more I wished it to slow down, the faster it seemed to move.
On this particular lazy Sunday morning, I woke and reached across the bed for Kade, but instead my fingers brushed a piece of paper.
He was so adorable. He still left me notes instead of simply sending a text.
Be right back. Don’t get up.
I rolled onto my back and smiled up at the ceiling.
I couldn’t remember ever being this happy before.
Kade made me happy.
Sometimes I’d wondered what it might be like if we ever got back together, but I never allowed myself to think that it might actually happen.
And now that we were, it was so much better than I imagined.
We didn’t have the pressures of being students and having to study all the time.
We actually had days when we weren’t required to do anything we didn’t want to do.
And sometimes that involved absolutely nothing more than just lying in bed and talking.
I sat up when I heard the elevator open.
Kade stepped into the bedroom with coffee from Starbucks and a little bag. He always brought me something to eat as a surprise. It was as though he worried that I wouldn’t get enough to eat.
He sat down, handed me my latte, and set a newspaper down on the bed.
“What’s this?” I asked.
“What? Don’t you ever read the newspaper anymore?”
“Sure,” I said, sipping my coffee. It was smooth as always. “Online.”
He grabbed up the newspaper and spread it out on the bed.
“But it’s so much more fun to read the comics together when we can hold the paper in our hands.”
“The comics,” I said, laughing. “Alright. Let’s read the comics. And leave the news to the serious people.”
He dug through the paper until he found the colorful comics. “Here we go.”
“What did you bring me to eat?” I asked.
“What makes you think I brought you something to eat?” he asked, tousling my hair.
“Because,” I said. “you wouldn’t be you if you didn’t.”
He grinned and handed me the paper bag. “Take your pick.”
I chose a blueberry muffin.
“Never would have thought you would have picked that,” he said.
“Just shows,” I said teasingly. “You don’t know everything about me.”
I peeled the paper off the muffin and took a bite.
“Mmm,” I said. “that’s good.”
“Let me try a bite,” he said.
I broke off a bit of muffin and placed it in his mouth.
“That’s good,” he said. “but I happen to know something better.”
“What? Your egg and cheese biscuit thing?”
“Nope,” he said, sliding over close to me.
He had that look in his eyes that told me exactly what he was hungry for.
Putting his hands on either side of me, he gave me a little kiss on the lips.
“I like yours better,” he said, subtly pushing me back onto the bed.
I giggled and wrapped my fingers in his white t-shirt. “It’s the same thing.”
“I am afraid Dr. Worthington,” he said, giving me more little teasing kisses. “you are sorely mistaken about that.”
Pulling on his t-shirt, I pulled him closer, and his kiss turned serious.
His tongue brushed the corner of my lips, sending a delicious shiver up my spine.
I was on my back now and he was pressed against me. I closed my eyes and let the muffin roll away, landing on the floor.
His tongue found mine and I gained a new appreciation for the taste of blueberry muffins.
His hardness pressed against my thigh, and I shifted to position him between my thighs.
He continued to kiss me as he moved between my legs. The only thing between us was his jogging pants and my pajama shorts.
It was too much.
I slid a hand down to my waistband, but he grabbed my hand to stop me and lifting my hands above my head, he clasped my fingers with his.
He was moving his hips in little circles.
Oh my.
My senses were overwhelmed with his hand holding mine captive, his lips kissing me senseless, and his hardness rubbing against me.
I wrapped my legs around him and gave in to the overwhelming sensations.
He knew just the right spot to concentrate.
I didn’t want him to stop, but I couldn’t speak to tell him that.
There was no need, though. He didn’t stop.
This man could make me come with our clothes on. And I was… so… close…so…close.
Then my body exploded, and my limbs went limp.
He held me close, letting me ride the waves that shook me to the core.
“I love you,” he whispered, his breath against my ear.
“I love you, too,” I said.
If only we could stay this way forever.
