Chapter 316: Closer to the Truth

His father's name is in those files, even if it was only a summer home. It means he really was involved in all of this. I bet he's hating himself right now, and he shouldn't! He was just a little kid when all this went down, and he would never have been able to stop any of this anyway.

"This isn't your fault, Trent," I murmur.

"I know that. I keep telling myself I didn't do this. I was just a kid, and I had no idea what was going on. But I still feel like shit that My FATHER was partially responsible for all the shit your family has gone through. I'm so sorry baby, I wish I could've stopped it," he grumbles.

I wish I could hold him right now. He's feeling guilty, and he shouldn't.

I know Rick felt just as guilty when he figured out what the hell was going on with his dad, and that he had treated Josie like shit for no reason.

Neither of them was to blame... well, Rick is partially to blame for making Josie's life hell when he didn't have to, but he's learned his lesson now and he's been trying to make it up to her.

"Is... there anything else you learned in those files?" I ask softly, looking over to Josie who is trying valiantly to stay awake for this conversation, but she has had about as much sleep as I have... which is zero. Baby Sophie might be winning in the sleep department.

Trent hesitates for a moment before sighing again. "Yeah, baby. We found your names. All of them. They are all on contracts. Obviously, Josie's name had been given to Dean Kingston. You were given to Jay," He spits out. "And Olivia... she's been given to Logan Davis as... some sort of transaction. It says you were all supposed to be sold off as sex-slaves. Rick has been on his phone with Jeff and working with the police informing them of the sex trafficking ring," he swallows hard.

I think I'm going to faint.

"W-we were? And Liv is... did they..."

"I don't know, baby. We are still searching for her. No matter what happens, we are bringing her home!" he insists.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, only I feel sick and it has nothing to do with my baby! Then I remember...

"How's Liam doing?" I ask softly?

"We dropped him off at home so he could get some rest and get to school. He argued about it, of course. He wanted to be with us the moment we find Liv. But we told him we probably won't find her at this location. Rick has a feeling she's closer to home."

"Poor guy. I can imagine what he's feeling right now. Of course, my feelings are sisterly," I smile sadly.

"Once we get her back, he'll be fine. But he is not good right now. He looked ready to march over to the Davis's house and rip heads off their shoulders," Trent gives a sympathetic chuckle.

I sigh in exhaustion and look over at my sister who seems to have lost her fight against nature. I'm not going to wake her up. I'll tell her what we know when she wakes.

"I love you," I whisper.

"I love you too, Charlie. Take care of your sister. We'll be coming home as soon as we check out the summer house. Get some rest, baby," he says before hanging up.

I look down at the sweet little girl in my arms who finally gave up at the same time as her mommy.

I carefully set her into her crib, so she doesn't wake up again. She looks so peaceful, and yet I have a feeling she's feeling her mother's stress and that's why she's so fussy.

I hold my hands over my still very flat belly. Daddy's coming home soon, honey. And with any luck, so will Auntie Liv.

I sniff, trying to get rid of these stupid tears. I know she's coming home! If Josie could live through James and Dean, and I made it through Jay, Liv can get through whatever the hell the Davis's are putting her through.

"Soon, everyone is going to be home again, and we'll all be one big happy family," I whisper to the universe, hoping it hears us and delivers.
