Chapter 255: Chapter Two-Hundred and Fifty-Five
“This whole thing should never have started in the first place,” Kota retorted as he glared at him.
Lowering his hands from his face, Jenson asked, “Where is my daughter?”
“How the hell are we supposed to know?” Hawkins snapped back.
Jenson shook his head. “Because you know everything else, she must be here with you.” He screamed her name, “London! I know you’re here, you little bitch. They wouldn’t know as much as they do without you opening your fucking big mouth.”
“Oh, shut the fuck up,” Hawkins ordered, his voice rising. “Your whiney voice is giving me a headache.”
“Fuck you.” Jenson snarled. “I know that little bitch is here so why doesn’t she face me?”
“I wouldn’t want to face you either if I were her.” Titan scoffed. “You are one big fucking disappointment as a man and more as a father.”
“You have no idea what I've done, so you don’t get to judge me,” Jenson grunted.
“We know what you did and what you are continuing to do, you slimy douchebag,” Hawkins grumbled. “You’ve been selling this town right down the river and one day you’re gonna drown when the water gets over your head. That day is coming sooner than you think.
Kota nodded as he added, “You think Ronnie and his friends are just gonna leave here as quietly as they came? If you do, you're an idiot, a drunken, sloppy idiot.”
Titan glared at him as he promised, “All of you will pay. You, our mayor, and the cop who’s on the take while looking the other way.”
Jenson’s face went pale. “How did you know about them?” he whispered.
“We have been looking into this on our own, dumbass,” Titan replied. “We don’t know your daughter. We found someone else who was willing to talk.”
“Yeah. Did you think we wouldn’t look any deeper than just you?” Kota asked with disbelief. “If Ronnie has been here for more than seven years, he had to have more than just one man in his pocket. You were just his weakest link, that's all.”
“I ain’t no fucking weak link,” Jenson protested angrily.
Hawkins laughed. “You’ve been pickled in beer the whole time Ronnie and his gang have been here in town. You ratted out your own wife, for Christ's sake. You let her walk into a mugging and they fucking snapped her neck to shut her mouth. Did you think people wouldn’t see that?”
Titan laughed with him. “Did you think your drinking hasn’t been noticed by everyone who sees you on the streets? Or your neighbors?”
“Fuck you,” Jenson groused tiredly. “Fuck you and whoever’s been feeding you these lies. I don’t owe you or this loser town a damn thing.” He motioned to Hawkins.
“Now that right there tells us everything we need to know about you.” Hawkins nodded. “You are a man in a position to do something for this town and you don’t think you owe the people who live here a damn thing? Our taxes pay your salary, buddy.
“You live here too, Mr. Loser.”
“Not for long, buddy,” Jenson grumbled. “Ronnie is taking me with him when he leaves this fucking town.”
Hawkins just raised an eyebrow at his statement. “So that’s the way the wind is blowing. Well, buddy, let me tell you a little something about Ronnie Dunlap that you might not know.” He leaned a little closer to the bars. “He’s a fucking liar from the word go. He’s not going to take you or anyone with him. You? You’re a liability that he can't afford to be linked to. He’s setting this town up to burn when he’s on his way out.”
Kota snickered. “You have to be the biggest dumbass alive if you think he’s gonna protect you after all of this. He’s been watching you all these years, waiting until you were at your lowest point and now he’s pulling out? No, brother, he ain’t taking you anywhere.”
Titan chuckled too as he grabbed a second beer and popped it open. “He’s gonna be pushing you down the rabbit hole, laughing as you’re falling into the dirt.”
“He wouldn’t dare!” Jenson spat as he kept staring at the beer in Titan’s hand. “I know too many of his secrets.”
“Then he’ll settle that with a bullet to your head.” Titan chuckled dryly. “Why do you think he wants your daughter? He’ll hold her over you until he reaches the edge of town then he’ll probably put a bullet in her head as well.”
Jenson just stared at him and he didn’t say a word.
All three Rogues could read his face though. Worry appeared in his eyes before he could cover it.
Hawkins looked disgusted as he slowly shook his head. “You make me sick. You care only about yourself. That I can see. You and Ronnie deserve exactly what’s coming to you and I’ll see that you both get it. Even if I have to shove it down your throat myself.” He then turned around and stomped his way up the steps.
Titan and Kota followed him.
When Titan reached the top step, he turned and tipped his full beer can over. He watched as the beer spilled down the steps. “Oops!” Then he looked up at Jensen and smirked.
Jenson grumbled to himself and licked his dry lips.
Back in the main room…
When the men came back, Hawkins looked like a thundercloud searching for somewhere to rain. His scowl told it all.
London swallowed hard and turned away. She had a feeling her dad just made the usual ass of himself. Pissing them all off with his obnoxious ways. It didn’t surprise her in the least. As far as she could remember, he hadn’t been a real human being since before her mom was killed.
Boots came over to her and sat down to whisper, “I’m sorry, London.”
London shrugged but refused to let her tears fall. “He was disappointed in me because I was a girl and wouldn’t carry his name until I died. Why would I want to? Why would I want to carry his name? It's not like he’s leaving behind some kind of legacy or anything to be proud of. And Chris? Well, he’s just damaged goods, isn’t he? Even if he’s the one who damaged him. I’m just done with all his bullshit.”
Boots wrapped his arm around her shoulder and just sat quietly with her.
After a couple of minutes, London took a shaky breath and said, “I’m okay.”
Hawkins looked over at her and opened his mouth to speak.
London held her hand up and cut him off, “If it's something he said, I don’t want to hear it. I know exactly how he is and I don’t need to hear it. Just tell me you can stop him.”
“Yeah, we’ll stop them, we’ll stop them all,” Hawkins promised with a growl.
“That’s all I need to hear. Now tell me what I can do to help you,” London said.
“We just need time to verify everything you’ve told us so far then we’ll make our move,” Hawkins explained to her.
