Chapter 123: Let Go of Monica

Monica shook her head, looking confused. "I don't know."

"How'd you get back today?" Brandon's eyes bore into Monica's, searching for answers like he could read her mind.

Monica's heart skipped a beat at his question, and she bit her lower lip instinctively. That small gesture didn't escape Brandon's notice. He instantly knew she was about to lie.

"You didn't take a cab back yourself?" Brandon pressed, his tone more certain now.

The resentment Monica felt from being left at the airport surged within her. She lifted her head and met Brandon's gaze, her emotions spilling over.

"You're questioning me now? Are you here to mock me? Or do you want to see if I can be happy without you?"

Her voice trembled, and tears glistened in her eyes, a mix of hurt and anger.

"Today was different. Brian was upset, and we were there to pick him up. There was no need to start a fight," Brandon explained, frowning. "Couldn't you have just let it go for a bit? He doesn't know you well and has some misunderstandings. I'll explain it to him."

His tone softened, trying to calm Monica down.

"Really? Did you explain it to him?" Monica retorted, a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "He still mocked me when he saw me earlier. So, I'm supposed to endure his insults and still smile at him?"

She crossed her arms and tilted her head slightly, her face full of defiance.

"I told you, I'll explain it to him. People's views don't change overnight," Brandon said patiently.

"Besides, he knew Seraphina long before you. It's normal for him to have preconceived notions. You need to give him some time to accept you. And remember, you married me, not him. Does it really matter if he accepts you? Just ignore him."

He reached out to take Monica's hand, but she pulled away.

"I wish I could, but living together, I can't stand this treatment," Monica said, her voice choked with emotion. "Facing his constant sarcasm every day is unbearable."

Her shoulders trembled, revealing her vulnerability.

"Do you have any other choice? Are you thinking of leaving the Robinson family?" Brandon's tone hardened, a flicker of displeasure in his eyes.

Monica pressed her lips together and looked down, saying nothing. She regretted not buying a plane ticket and leaving this mess behind at the airport.

She sighed inwardly, realizing that arguing over this was pointless.

Taking a deep breath, Monica tried to calm herself.

She pulled her hand away from Brandon's grip and said, "Fine, since he's your brother, I'll tolerate it. But I hope you explain to Brian that even though I married into the Robinson family for money, I haven't done anything to betray you."

She lifted her head slightly, meeting Brandon's eyes. "If you really want to get back with your first love, I hope you let me go. I can accept a divorce. But I can't raise the child alone, so I'll have an abortion."

Her eyes showed a hint of determination.

"What do you mean?" Brandon's eyes darkened, staring at Monica. He hated how easily she talked about divorce, as if marriage was a game to her.

"Did I ever tell you that I can only accept being widowed, not divorced?" His voice was low and cold, carrying a chill.

"So what do you want? You let your family make things difficult for me, and you spend time with your first love," Monica's emotions flared up again, her voice rising.

"You still expect me to play the role of a perfect wife with a smile every day? I can't do it! Either let me go or deal with these issues that disgust me. Otherwise, every day will be filled with arguments, and no one will be happy."

Her cheeks flushed with emotion, and her chest heaved.

Seeing Monica so agitated, Brandon tried to cover her mouth, but she slapped his hand away.

Frustrated, he grabbed her arm and pulled her to a secluded corridor.

Monica struggled free and glared at Brandon. "You think it's awkward to discuss this in front of the Robinson family, right? But you never consider my situation. You're just trying to hide the fact that you didn't take a cab back from the airport."

"The security at the foot of the mountain saw you get out of Ethan's car, didn't they? Didn't I tell you to keep your distance from your mentor?" Brandon interrupted, his voice low but filled with anger.

"You left me at the airport. I just took a ride back. Is that wrong?" Monica's voice carried a hint of grievance.

"Left at the airport? Are you incapable of getting around? Don't you have a credit card? You couldn't take a cab back yourself? You had to ride with your mentor and even stayed at the foot of the mountain for ten minutes. What were you doing in the car?" Brandon's eyes widened with anger and suspicion.

Monica's eyes reddened at his accusations, and she stared at Brandon, speaking slowly and deliberately. "What do you think I was doing with my mentor in the car?"

Her eyes were filled with disappointment and anger, questioning why Brandon thought so poorly of her.

Brandon's rage exploded at her response. He grabbed Monica's shoulder roughly, making her cry out in pain. "What are you doing? Let go of me, you lunatic! It hurts!"

She struggled to break free from Brandon's grip.

At that moment, Ethan happened to pass by and saw the scene. He quickly approached and placed a firm hand on Brandon's, his voice resolute. "Let go of Monica."

"Mind your own business! This is between my wife and me. Don't you think you're overstepping, Mr. Kennedy?" Brandon glared at Ethan, but his grip didn't loosen.

"I said, let go of Monica!" Ethan repeated, his usually calm demeanor shattered, his eyes showing unwavering determination.
