Chapter 165: Does He Think I'm Dirty Now?
Henry never hid his misdeeds from Paula; in fact, he often discussed them with her. In his mind, Paula was resourceful and always knew how to clean up his messes.
"Because I'm like a parasite in your belly. But honestly, that woman's death doesn't benefit us at all. We've lost a tool to control Monica," Paula said, snuggling into Henry's arms, a fleeting hint of ruthlessness in her eyes.
"You always hated seeing her, thinking she stole your husband. You're so jealous," Henry teased with a laugh.
"Ugh, stop it! Honey, are you saying you never had feelings for her?" Paula asked, her hand caressing Henry's chest, her eyes probing.
Henry kissed Paula on the cheek and said nonchalantly, "I never liked her meek and gentle nature, especially in bed. She was like a dead fish, couldn't even turn over."
"Well, it's a shame about those prescriptions," Henry mused. "Do you think that damn Monica's grandfather left her the secret formulas?"
"Probably not," Paula tilted her head, thinking. "If she had such valuable prescriptions, she would've sold them long ago. Why would she hand her mother over to you?"
"Monica is really stupid. She knew we wouldn't pay for her mom's treatment, yet she still became our obedient servant," Paula said, shaking his head. "It's a pity we won't need such a useful servant anymore. But at least it avenged our Laura."
"Honey, I'm worried the Robinson Group might come after us. What should we do?" Paula asked, concern in her voice.
"Don't worry," Henry said confidently, patting his chest. "I'm still Monica's father. If the Robinson Group dares to attack the Evans Company, I'll go on a live stream and play the victim, saying the Robinson family's daughter-in-law abandoned her father. Let's see how many stocks the Robinson Group can afford to lose."
He raised an eyebrow, a smug smile on his face.
"Honey, you're so clever," Paula praised, her eyes full of admiration.
"Of course. By the way, get me the contract Monica signed with the Kennedy Group for the Evans Company," Henry said, his tone turning serious.
"Is there a problem?" Paula asked, puzzled.
"Not exactly. I glanced at it before, and the batch of medicine we produced seemed like traditional formulas," Henry explained.
"There are six ingredients the Kennedy Group didn't provide us. So, our batch is just a semi-finished product. I suspect their formulas are similar to the ones Eugene had."
"Do you think the Kennedy Group is the small pharmaceutical workshop Eugene supported years ago?" Paula asked, surprised.
"I'm not sure. But the Kennedy Group is too big for me to investigate easily," Henry said, sighing. "Let's focus on expanding our production line and making the Evans Company stronger. Only then will we have real power."
"And take care of Laura. Help her move past this," Henry added, a hint of helplessness in his voice.
"Don't worry. I know my daughter. She's not one to give up easily. This incident might help her let go of Brandon completely," Paula said confidently, a cold glint in her eyes.
"Clinging to a man who doesn't love her only brings pain. Breaking her moral chains might elevate the Evans family to new heights."
Henry was momentarily stunned by Paula's words. He knew she was ruthless, but he hadn't realized she would use their daughter so coldly.
Instead of being angry, he pulled Paula close and kissed her passionately. Her ruthless determination only made her more attractive to him.
Meanwhile, at the Robinson Hospital in Maplewood City, the white hospital room was quiet and peaceful.
Seraphina slowly woke up, her eyes falling on Brian, who was asleep by her bedside.
She stared at him blankly, then lowered her head, hugging herself as if to contain all her sadness and vulnerability.
Soft sobs escaped her throat, filling the silent room with a sense of loneliness.
Brian, stirred by the sound, quickly lifted his head. Seeing Seraphina's tear-streaked face, his heart ached as if gripped by an invisible hand.
He hurried to the table, poured a glass of warm water, and brought it to her.
"Seraphina, don't be sad. What's done is done. We need to look forward. You have a bright future ahead," he said gently, his voice full of concern.
"I'll do my best to help you with everything I promised," he added, softly patting her back.
"But will Brandon still like me?" Seraphina asked, her tearful face full of confusion and worry, her voice trembling.
Brian's heart ached at her words. He forced himself to sound firm and reassuring.
"He will. Brandon is loyal and caring. We've known each other since we were kids. He feels differently about you."
Despite his words, a flicker of sadness crossed his eyes.
He knew that the person who loved her most wasn't Brandon, but him. Yet, he couldn't give her happiness and had to let go.
"Really? Then why hasn't he come to see me?" Seraphina asked, her brow furrowing, her voice rising with doubt.
To her, Brandon was her only support in the darkness. His absence filled her with unease.
"He has important things to do," Brian tried to explain, but his words sounded weak.
"What could be so important that he can't come to the hospital? Does he not care about me? Does he think I'm dirty now?"
Seraphina's voice was tinged with hurt, her eyes welling up with tears again.
She couldn't understand why Brandon was so distant when she needed him most.
"Seraphina, stop overthinking," Brian sighed, trying to comfort her.
But he knew that no words could ease her doubts.
