Chapter 28: Craving for Blood
Selena's POV
I dry the blood out of the bunny I found in the garden and hide behind the mansion. I wanted to quench my thirst, but it didn't even satisfy me. I don't know how I am going to satisfy the blood thirst in my throat, and I'm not going to kill a person just to feel relieved.
“This is frustrating…I have to find a man in my dreams to solve all the questions I have in mind, especially since this is not going so well. I thought I didn't hide it, but whenever I saw blood. My fangs went out.”
I dug on the dirt in front of me until it was deep enough to bury the bunny I've caught. I kill an innocent life to satisfy me, and this is the least thing I can do.
I wanted the blood in my lips before standing up, after that it turned around and my heart almost dropped when Simon was standing behind me. “Geez! Are you going to give me a heart attack?” I complained.
He tilted his head before turning his attention to me and said, “What are you doing there?”
I swallowed, “Nothing…”
“I saw you bury something.”
“Oh, that was… that was a bunny. I saw it in the garden and it was dead, so I took it behind the house to give the animal a proper burial…” I reasoned.
I'm crossing my fingers and hoping he would believe me, but seeing his expression makes me think that he didn't.
“What are you doing here?” I changed the topic.
“I was told to find you and I wasn't expecting to see you here, Selena.”
“Really?” I uttered.
“Yes. The alpha wanted to speak with you about what happened at his office,” he said.
The hair in my body stands up when I hear that. I remember what exactly happened in the Alpha's office, especially since I almost bit Jessica out of thirst.
“Right now?” I questioned.
He nodded, “Yes.”
“Uhm, can I just come later? Jessica was so mad at me and seeing me will make her rage fueled. I don't want any further problems.”
“He's talking to you alone, Selena.”
“Is that really necessary? I mean, after the trouble between me and Jessica. I started to feel off and don't want to speak with any of them…” I lied. I'm just avoiding making more unwanted actions that will lead to my ruin.
“No. You are coming with me no matter what your reason is.” He moves aside, and it means one thing. I have nowhere else to go.
I sighed in defeat. “Fine.”
Simon turned and walked ahead of me. I followed him inside the mansion, and my heart started pounding. It was like my heart giving me a warning, especially since I can already tell Kael's expression. I almost killed Jessica, and that is punishable.
We stopped in front of his office and he opened the door for me, after that he looked at me and gestured for me to head in. I took a deep breath before heading inside, and I felt like I'm suffocating. I felt dizzy and immediately lost my balance, but luckily Kael caught me on time.
“Are you okay?” Concern was written all over his face.
I move away from him firmly, avoiding to give suspicion to him. “I am. Thank you.”
“Have a seat, Selena.” He offered a chair.
I sat down and didn't say anything. He then approached his seat before cupping his hands and his expression changed.
“I know you are disappointed, Kael. That's why I'm willing to accept any punishment.”
He frowned, “What are you talking about?”
“You summoned me because something happened earlier, right? I know her thing Jessica was punishable and I am willing to take it because I deserve it,” I answered.
The serious atmosphere lingered around us, but it soon broke with his laughter. Kael was laughing at me like I said something funny, even though I didn't.
“What's funny?” I questioned.
His laughter became slow and he sighed softly, “I didn't ask you to come here to punish you. Actually, I am thrilled to see you fight. I never thought you would fight Jessica because I'm expecting you to let her bully you.”
“That was out of my reflexes. I don't want her to earn but I was provoked," I reasoned.
He nodded, “I know. Being provoked by someone and never accepting you is tempting, but you must not allow your emotions to take over. You should learn how to control it so it won't lead to unnecessary problems.”
“I understand. I have never been like this. She just provoked me…”
“It was reasonable, so there's no need for you to explain everything because I witnessed it all. Your actions can be taught and over time you will learn how to control your emotions, especially when it comes to time like this.”
My eyebrows met because I didn't understand what he was trying to imply. “Why are you saying those things to me?” I inquired.
He held my hand that was on his desk. “I'm preparing you to take over the Luna position very soon.”
I shake my head, disagreeing. “I have made the promise to Jessica that I will never accept the title. Even though everyone saw me as fit to be in Luna, I will not break my promise.”
“You are my mate, Selena. You are chosen to rule beside me and you are rejecting the moon goddess's destiny? Jessica couldn't complain about it,” Kael stated. He was trying to convince me.
I stood up and moved away from him. “I'm sorry, Alpha. Even though I accepted our bond already, and you accepted me wholeheartedly. It doesn't mean I will accept the title for being your Luna. I can feel it will bring destruction to your pack, especially since Jessica was counting on you…”
I turned around and approached the door, but before I could leave. He speaks.
“Jessica and I can't be together.”
“Why not?” I asked without looking at him.
“Because she is my half sister.”
That's a revelation that makes me stunned. I swirled to him and said, “Then why is she insisting on marrying you?”
“Our father wanted to keep it a secret. That's why I inherited the Alpha position. He doesn't want his reputation to be tarnished, so we made it look like he adopted me to be his heir.”
I exhaled, “I'm sorry. Even though you tell me the truth, it doesn't mean I will take the title. Jessica was expecting the position and if I take it after promising her that I never will, she will hate me forever.” I looked away and added, “I suggest you fix your relationship with her before making me your Luna.”
