Chapter 22 The Supposed To Be Luna
Chapter 22 The Supposed To Be Luna
Jessica's POV
My vehicle parked outside the mansion and I got out. I stretched my arms because I felt like my blood and joints were stuck since I had a long journey. However, I was immediately paused when I heard joyful music coming from inside. I don't recall having a party, and worst I'm not aware of it.
I was about to step to the porch when someone called me from behind. It was the head chef of the pack. She was gasping for air as if she waited for me to arrive while hiding not to be seen by anyone.
“Why do you look in a hurry?” I questioned, pulling my bag out of the trunk.
“Luna, you have to know something!” She exclaimed.
“What is it?” I indifferently asked while focusing my eyes on my bags.
“The Alpha and his pack were celebrating inside.”
I frowned, “Yeah, I can see and hear it. What's the occasion? Did I miss a very important occasion in Kael's life?”
She leaned forward and whispered, “No, my Luna. He was celebrating because finally his people accepted Selena as part of the pack.”
I was stunned by the information she gave me. I stop pulling my bags out of the trunk and turn that hair with a serious expression, “Are you telling me the truth? Because you know what would happen if I barged inside and made a scene. I will humiliate myself in front of everyone.”
She nodded, “I am telling you the truth, my Luna. Selena and the alpha were celebrating inside with the pack. They were happy and didn't even tell you about it because they knew you would be upset.”
“I am damn right.” Without hesitation I stormed inside the mansion and made my way to the living room where everyone was having fun without me. Some people stopped dancing when they saw me and started analyzing the situation.
I walked inside, looked for that woman and when I spotted her talking with the pack. I marched towards her with big steps and yanked her hair immediately, pulling her to the middle of the living room. Everyone stops, the music, laughter, and fun. The room quickly fell silent and intense.
“Let me go, Jessica!” She screamed.
I let her go violently and she fell on the floor with messy hair. “Are you celebrating because the pack already accepted you? Aren't you ashamed, Selena? I told you not to get used to this place! You don't belong here!”
“I didn't ask for this! They were the ones who made the decision, so don't blame me for what they decided. I'm just celebrating with them because that's what they wanted,” she replied.
I scoffed, crossing my arms and answered, “Do you think I will believe you? It doesn't mean you save the Alpha from getting killed, you have the right to celebrate. No matter what you do, Selena. You will remain useless to this pack and your prophecy as a troublemaker won't change!”
“Why are you so upset with me? I already told you, Jessica. I didn't ask for any of this,” she explained.
I snickered, “This is upsetting because they were blinded by a simple gesture you've done! How could they believe you!”
“Because Selena showed everyone how she can risk her life to save me or anyone who is in danger.” Kael emerged from the crowd, holding a glass in his right hand while looking at me with disappointment.
He approached Selena and helped her get up. “Why did you come here and hurt Selena? Is that how Luna is supposed to behave?”
“A Luna?” I laughed sarcastically because he said those words without emotion, as if he was disgusted. “When did you recognize me as your chosen Luna, Kael? I've been with you for years and prove myself that I am the rightful owner of that title yet you chose that trash over me! Have you forgotten my father's sacrifices?!”
“No!” He shouted. “I never forget your father's sacrifices, but you don't have the right to use it against me to control me. I owe your father my life, but not you.”
My heart broke into pieces because ever since he never considered my love for him. I've tried everything I can just to tell him that I am worthy to be his Luna—the woman who will stand by his side and in thickness and in health.
“What about you, Kael? Is this how an Alpha is supposed to behave? I've been living on this pack for so many years yet you weren't even there to invite me even though I was far away from you. Is this how unimportant I am from you?” I questioned, my voice almost cracked.
He sighed, “This is a sudden celebration. I also know you haven't seen your family for years, so I let you be with them without disturbing you. You haven't seen your sister for so many years after your father died and handed me the pack. That's why I didn't call you, and I know you were busy.”
“Even so. That is not enough reason for you to neglect me! After all those years, you will replace me with a woman you just met in a black market because she was being sold by her father! Am I replaceable? Have you ever considered my feelings before, Kael?” I inquired. I am hoping to hear an answer that will heal my broken heart from him, but he didn't say anything.
His silence broke my heart even more.
I swallowed, holding my ears from falling because I don't want to look vulnerable in front of these people, especially in front of this woman. I have to stay strong even though my knees are trembling, and I can't guarantee that I won't burst into tears.
“So I am really replaceable, huh? I thought for once you have considered my feelings when you left and returned with that woman, Kael. I thought for once you see me as your Luna, not just your younger sister. However, I am delusional. Therefore, I don't have the right to feel this pain right now…”
He exhaled softly and was about to touch me when I backfired. “Jessica.”
“Don't touch me. You have made your choice, Kael.” I looked into his eyes with tears forming into my eyelids and said, “After all, I will never be your choice…”
“Jessica, wait!”
I didn't look around and kept running away from that house until I reached outside. I got inside my car, and then drove away without listening to him. I am heartbroken and he didn't even think about my feelings because Selena's feelings were more important to him.
I clench my fist on the steering wheel, crying silently as I make a vow. “Your happiness won't last, Selena. I will bring you down and I swear to my father's grave.”
