Chapter 219 219

Chapter 219 219

What Edward wanted her to say must have been this:

Instead, I'll love him even more.

How could she possibly say something like that?

Especially in front of Edward.

Embarrassed and annoyed with herself, Ellena shook off Edward's hand and walked ahead.

Edward followed behind her with a faint smile and grabbed her hand again. "Slow down."

"I like walking fast." Ellena tried to shake him off but failed, so she could only let him hold her hand.

The two met Chloe at the corner of the corridor.

The moment Chloe saw Ellena, she exploded. "Ellena! You're not alone anymore. Can't you let me worry less? You went to the restroom and disappeared for so long. You didn't even answer your phone. You almost scared me to death..."

Halfway through, she noticed Edward standing beside Ellena.

Chloe immediately swallowed the rest of her words. She coughed lightly and instantly turned into a gentle young lady.

"Don't do that again next time."

Ellena rubbed her arms dramatically. "Stop it. You're giving me goosebumps."

Chloe forced a smile. "How can I not worry? There are two of you now."

She was mentally exhausted. She had only invited Ellena to dinner, yet so many things had happened.

The group returned to the private room and finally managed to eat.

During the meal, Chloe asked, "Where did you go? Why did you disappear after going to the restroom?"

"I happened to run into Edward. Some elders from the Arnoult family were eating here, so I went with him to greet them."

Ellena lied without changing her expression.

Edward merely glanced at her and said nothing.

"So that's what happened." Chloe accepted the explanation without suspicion.

Only after the meal did Chloe remember that apart from his father and grandfather, there were hardly any elders in the Arnoult family whom Edward would personally introduce to Ellena.

The elder Ellena mentioned was probably Old Master Arnoult.

On the way home, the atmosphere inside the car was silent.

When they were almost home, Ellena suddenly said, "After leaving the restroom, I met Cyrus. He said he couldn't contact Naomi and suspected that you had captured her because she might have done something impulsive."

She did not continue, but smart people understood the rest.

Ellena had long suspected that Naomi was the culprit. With Edward's methods, if Naomi fell into his hands, she would definitely suffer.

The truth had proved her right. If she had not arrived in time, Naomi would probably still be tortured.

After hearing her words, Edward only asked, "Cyrus came to see you?"

"Yes."

Ellena turned to look at him.

Outside the window, the mountain road was dark, and the trees flashed by quickly. Even in the darkness, she could vaguely sense the coldness in Edward's expression.

Earlier, she had been too worried about Naomi to think carefully.

Now, repeating Edward's words in her mind, she suddenly felt a chill.

When Naomi had driven toward her, Edward had immediately sent people to capture her. Naomi herself had been seriously injured, yet the Smith family remained unaware for an entire day.

Instead, Cyrus had found Ellena first.

The answer became obvious.

Cyrus had instigated Naomi to attack Ellena and then deliberately brought Ellena to witness Edward's cruel methods.

It was not a perfect plan, but if Ellena had been more timid, she might truly have been frightened.

More importantly, it would deepen the conflict between her and Edward.

But what benefit would Cyrus gain from worsening their relationship?

Did he simply not want Edward to be happy?

Ellena knew what kind of person Edward was, and Naomi was far from innocent.

Although she disagreed with Edward's methods, she could understand why he did it.

Suddenly, Ellena thought of something.

"The last time Naomi clarified the marriage certificate issue in front of the media, did you force her using the same method?"

"Yes." Edward admitted without hesitation.

Ellena sighed.

She could not say he was completely wrong. His intentions had been good.

But violence was still violence.

After thinking for a moment, she said, "I know some things can't be solved with reason, but violence isn't the only solution."

Without looking at her, Edward replied, "I only use the fastest solution."

Ellena laughed angrily. "So when you wanted me to get pregnant, you locked me in the villa and wouldn't let me go out?"

The atmosphere inside the car instantly turned cold.

Screech—

The car suddenly braked.

Caught off guard, Ellena lurched forward, but Edward quickly pulled her into his arms and steadied her.

His voice trembled slightly. "Are you okay?"

Ellena pushed him away, opened the door, and got out.

The car had stopped about ten meters from the villa.

As soon as she stepped out, she noticed several cars parked outside.

Someone had come?

No longer in the mood to argue with Edward, she walked straight toward the villa.

The moment she entered, rows of bodyguards bowed in unison.

"Young Master, Young Madame."

Jessie hurried over.

"Young Master, Young Madame, you're finally back. Old Master arrived this afternoon and has been waiting for you."

Why was Alfred here again?

Ellena looked at Edward in confusion.

Edward seemed unsurprised.

"The hospital we visited today belongs to the Arnoult family," he reminded her.

Ellena immediately understood.

Alfred must have learned about her pregnancy and rushed over.

Thinking about it, that was perfectly normal.

Hearing the commotion, Alfred had already walked to the entrance.

"Why are you still standing outside? Come in quickly. It's freezing out there!"

Without hesitation, Ellena ran toward him.

Edward frowned. "Ellena, slow down!"

Alfred immediately pulled her inside.

"It's so cold outside. Come in and warm yourself."

Ellena smiled. "Grandpa, I'm not cold."

As soon as they entered the hall, a row of maids bowed respectfully.

"Young Madame."

Ellena froze.

There was an entire group of maids?
