Chapter 216

She raised her head and saw Edward's shocked expression.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

Edward opened his mouth to speak but found that he could not make a sound for a moment.

Sensing something was wrong, Ellena asked worriedly, "Are you okay?"

After two seconds, Edward finally found his voice. "I'm fine."

He forced his stiff body to move and helped Ellena up.

People had already started gathering around them. Edward immediately pulled Ellena back into the car.

Through the window, he looked at the car that had crashed into the guardrail.

The car had clearly been aiming for Ellena. Judging from its speed, the driver had stepped on the accelerator with all his strength.

Someone wanted Ellena dead.

Hatred flashed across Edward's eyes. He took out his phone and called Paul.

"Come to Sea Horizon."

After that, he made two more calls.

Ellena vaguely heard him say, "No need to call the police. Settle it privately and keep an eye on the person."

Only after he hung up did Ellena get a chance to speak.

"What happened just now..."

"Let's go to the hospital first," Edward interrupted.

Ellena noticed that Edward's face had remained pale the entire time. She thought he was feeling unwell, but there was no blood on him and he walked normally, so she did not ask further.

As soon as they arrived at the hospital, Ellena was pushed into the examination room.

"Let's do a full body examination," Edward instructed.

Ellena looked at him blankly. "I don't feel uncomfortable. I'm fine."

Edward ignored her words and said to the doctor, "Examine her thoroughly."

Holding her forehead, Ellena whispered to the doctor, "Doctor, forget it. I'm fine. Later, I'll just pretend the examination is finished."

The doctor adjusted his glasses. "Really?"

"Yes." Ellena nodded seriously.

The car had not touched her at all. There was no need for all these tests.

The doctor frowned as if considering her suggestion.

Finally, under Ellena's expectant gaze, he shook his head expressionlessly.

"I don't dare."

Ellena sighed. "I didn't expect doctors nowadays to have such strong professional ethics."

The doctor lowered his voice. "This is a private hospital under the Arnoult Group. If I do that, I'll lose my job."

Ellena knew that the Arnoult Group owned many businesses, but she had not expected them to own a hospital as well.

At least the doctor was honest.

...

Although there were many examinations, as the Young Madam of the Arnoult family, Ellena naturally received meticulous service.

Ordinarily, a complete physical examination required an appointment and could take a long time.

Ellena finished hers very quickly.

Edward accompanied her throughout the entire process. Fortunately, she had not insisted on asking the doctor to fake the examination.

After finishing, Ellena still had not received the results.

Turning to Edward, she asked, "Don't you want to get checked too?"

"No need."

After a pause, his tone softened slightly.

"I undergo regular physical examinations every year. I'm fine."

"Oh."

Thinking about it, that was normal.

Then Ellena remembered what Edward had said before her examination.

"What did you mean earlier?"

Edward's expression remained calm, but his voice was slightly tense.

"It means exactly what you think."

Recently, Edward had insisted on her becoming pregnant and had even forbidden her from leaving the house.

Now, he suddenly said he would not force her.

Men really were hard to understand.

The two looked at each other silently.

At that moment, the doctor walked out holding the examination report. He looked hesitant.

Edward's expression immediately turned cold.

"If you have something to say, say it."

The doctor swallowed nervously.

"Young Madame is very healthy, but..."

Edward frowned. "Can't you finish in one sentence?"

The doctor stiffened.

"I suspect Young Madame is pregnant, but further examinations are needed to confirm it."

After speaking, he lowered his head and did not dare make another sound.

This was his first time meeting Young Master and Young Madam. The rumors were true. Young Master was indeed frightening.

The room instantly fell silent.

Ellena's mind went blank.

Pregnant?

Hadn't Edward said that if she did not want children, he would not force her?

"Doctor, are you sure you're not mistaken?" she asked in disbelief.

Although Edward had not touched her recently, they had not always used protection before.

Still, could she really become pregnant so easily?

Could she have already been pregnant back then?

The doctor replied respectfully, "We need a detailed examination to confirm it."

"Take her for the examination," Edward said.

His voice had softened considerably, and there was even a trace of delight that could not be concealed.

Ellena pursed her lips and had no choice but to undergo another examination.

When the final report came out, she was still dazed.

"Congratulations, Mr. Arnoult. Mrs. Arnoult is indeed pregnant."

Edward accepted the report. His expression barely changed. After reading it, he simply nodded.

"Understood."

Ellena was in no mood to observe him.

Led out of the hospital by Edward, she remained absent-minded all the way back to the car.

Although she had not wanted to become pregnant so early, now that she was pregnant, she would definitely keep the child.

The feeling was simply too strange.

In the end, Edward had still gotten what he wanted, even though he had already said they did not have to have a child now.

Ellena turned to look out of the window, unconsciously placing a hand over her lower abdomen.

Edward's low voice sounded beside her.

"Are you unhappy?"

"What about you? Are you happy?" Ellena asked coldly.

Edward's expression stiffened, but he said nothing.

At that moment, her phone rang.

It was Chloe.

"Where did you two go? I'm already at Sea Horizon Club!"

"I'm pregnant."

Ellena's indifferent announcement made Chloe curse immediately.

"What did you say? Say it again! I don't believe it!"

Her reaction was exactly the same as Martin's.

Ellena repeated patiently, "I'm pregnant."

Hearing that she was serious, Chloe finally believed her.

"Then... are you going to keep the baby?"

"Or else?"

Ellena curled her lips into a faint smile.

She failed to notice Edward's tightly clenched fists beside her.
