Chapter 43: CHAPTER FORTY THREE

Anya's POV.

Days have passed since the incident, luck was all I could explain it to be with the determination of the twins to get me out of the danger zone, I open my eyes as the first ray of sunlight strayed in, climbing from the the window to my bed as time flowed until in hit me square in the face. I rolled out of bed expecting my luck to hold on while they sort out a way for me to get away with my life still intact, the chirping of the birds came through, breaking my from my thoughts, I sighed as I stood upright, hugging the night robe tight around my body and headed to the bathroom.

I headed to the dining room after I had freshened up, awaiting breakfast when I saw the twins coming towards my direction, all happy as they were involved in a play fight, Daemon's hand around Damian's neck, his other hand in a fist rubbing against Damian's head, Damian pushsd him away laugh, both of them discussing, their words incomprehensible to my human ears from the distance they were.

"Ahem!" Damian cleared his throat when they got to the table, the maid serving the food the moment they came in.

"This must be delicious." Daemon said, dropping to one of the to savour some of the meals, Damian sits opposite him.

"Definitely will." Damian replied.

"You boys seem much happy today, what must be the reason?" I asked, seeing both of them settled in to have their breakfast.

"It's been a while since the meeting and nobody has come out with any sort of evidence to prove you actually killed the Alpha." Daemon answered between mouthful of noodles and tomato sauce he was chugging down his throat.

"And with no evidence, there's nothing to hold against you, you are a free woman, fit to rule this clan until a new alpha." Damian continued, cutting into a well cooked steak modestly, unlike his brother who had decided to turn into a barbarian at the moment.

"A free woman indeed." A voice boomed from the back of where I sat, "As long as there's no evidence found, which means, if an evidence is found, she would be fighting for her life." The person continued.

"Mr Ethan." Damian said less enthusiastically, hope gone away from his tone, Daemon raised his hand as he took to down a glass of fruit juice.

"What if the evidence was found to be false." He asked as he was done drinking, inhaling and exhaling deeply.

"She's will be a free woman, with surveillance, more like a queen who is imprisoned in her own castle." Mr Ethan answered, walking to a position I could see him fully.

"Yeah, right." Damian said, putting back his concentration to the food he was eating, Daemon was already having his third serving to himself.

"Where was all that food going to?" I asked myself, watching him stare at the food ravenously when Susanne entered into dining room, the atmosphere becoming ominous, she walked to the back of Damian's chair.

"I'd like to talk to you." She said, almost to no one in particular.

"What do you need?" Damian asked without raising his head from the plate of food before him, chewing on his steak, his knife sawing through the meat.

"I want you to call a meeting." She said, standing akimbo.

"Why should we call a meeting for you?" Daemon asked, obviously full from his gluttonous eating, he belched out loud, then sat upright to look at the person, "Susanne?" He mentioned her name.

"I have important information the clan would want to know about." She replied, taking one of her hand off her waist, placing it on the head of the Damian sat on, he dropped his cutlery, silence in the room until he was done chewing.

"Fine, Mr Ethan can you call a short meeting?" He asked the beta.

"It would take quite a while before everyone would assemble." Mr Ethan replied, staring at Susanne.

"Doesn't matter." She answered, "The information would still be passed either way." She continued, Mr Ethan looked at me and then at Daemon.

"What are you looking at me for?" He asked, belch escaping from his mouth, "You can call for the meeting, better hope this information is worth the stir." He continued.

"I'll be on my way then." Mr Ethan replied, taking one long at Susanne then turned away, leaving just the three of us in the dining room.

"You've gotten what you want right?" Damian asked, his appetite obviously gone from him, I just sat still watching the exchange down to this moment, the feeling that my luck had finally run out.

"I think that would be enough." She answered, Daemon lowered his head to have a drink when she flashed me a smile, "I've got you." She mouthed, leaving a quirky smile on her face, I turn away just as she turned to leave.

*******

The meeting started on a rowdy tone, no one knowing what was going on, Damian and Daemon sat opposite me, I sat still, knowing my luck was out, I wouldn't go out a coward.

"What's going on?" One of the council member came to ask, his face showing that he didn't want to waste his time on some meetings called by young people.

"I don't know either, just that someone had said she had some important information to share to the pack." Damian answered, his countenance unfazed by the council man's attitude.

"Then, where is she?" The man growled, clearly showing his anger at the moment.

"I'm here." Susanne answered, her tone, smooth as oil as she swayed her hips seductively climbing the steps to the elevated platform.

"Sure." The man answered, lust clearly written over his face, he turned back to where other members sat, while others trickled in, she walked to the podium, the rowdiness in common ground, dying slowly until a pin drop could be heard around

"I have gathered evidence to show that our dearest Anya is the one responsible for our Alpha's death." She spoke, her eyes trained on me, silence filled for a while.

"Say it already." Someone shouted from the crowd, increasing murmuring among the people.

"I won't be the one." Susanne said, moving away, a black cloaked person appearing before her side, "She will tell you dealings between her and your Luna." extending the word Luna like it was an eyesore to her.

"Shit!" I cursed silently on seeing the peculiar coat, appear on the podium, blood draining from my face.

"What's the matter?" Daemon asked, turning his gaze from the character up there and towards me multiple times.

"I remember the cloak." I said, still looking at the character, "It looks close to the one lady I patronized the poison from, "I whispered.

'Thsn let's get her out of here." Damian said, almost standing up from his seat, I pull him backwards.

"I'm not still sure it's here, let's not be rash right now." I said, he looked at me at back at the cloaked person before he sat down, grumbling as he did, Daemon stared at me and made a deep breath, before taking his eyes of me.

"Please, can you tell the people here what you told me?" Susanne asked the figure, she stepped out for all to see, pulling back her hood to reveal her face, her emerald eyes glinting as usual, her white her like sill cascading down her back like a waterfall, I choke to the air in mouth, coughing slightly.

"What's it?" Daemon asked, worry etched on his face.

"She the one, Esmeralda." I whispered, amidst clearing my voice and trying to catch my breath.

"I had stumbled upon your Luna in the woods when she was having a run, she had injured herself deeply, I took her to my place to treat her, when she discovered I dealt also in concocting poison." Esmeralda began to speak.

"She's not our Luna if she's responsible for our Alpha's death." Someone screamed from the crowd, Esmeralda ignored the person.

"She asked if I could concoct one that wouldn't be notice by medical practitioners. It was a weird moment for me, the person I helped wants to take a person life, Why? I had asked her, she only explained that the person was a tyrant and needed to be gone." She continued, turning her emerald gaze towards me on seeing where I was, a chill spread into my skin, her eyes mesmerizing.

"And you're sure it's our Luna right here?" One of the council members asked, Esmeralda looked towards the member.

"Yes, stumbled on her just as I stumbled on Susanne over here, taking her to my place, she also discovered that I concocted poison and proceeded to ask me if I knew of a particular Anya." She began to narrate again, "Detailing on her nature, I never forget a face." Esmeralda continued, "And I never lie, to never reveal the truth I would put it in a riddle." She said, turning to look at me. I could feel the glares burning into my skin as the crowd began to wave.

"Susanne asked me to come tell this pack about it, I only agreed because she said the person wasn't a beast as described by Anya, burdened by the guilt, thats why I'm here." She concluded, wearing her hood over head.

"That's enough." The first elder spoke, "Take both of them away." he ordered, but the crowd wasn't having it.

"Kill her, execute her." Became their anthem.
