Chapter 137: Till Death Do Us Part
••• Charlotte's POV •••
I kept trying to pull my hand back, especially when I saw a flash of silver in his other hand.
Was he going to drug me again?
I panicked even more and wanted to punch him, but suddenly he put a silver bangle around my wrist, which fitted snugly, like a custom-made handcuff.
I became alerted. This shouldn't be an ordinary bangle. It looked too plain to be a piece of jewelry.
With his wealth, he should be able to give me something pretty, so this bangle was over suspicious to me.
"What's this?" I asked him with suspicion.
He ignored my question as he looked at my wrist and played with the bangle with a satisfied look.
"It looks good on you," he said before lifting my hand up and placing a lingering kiss on the back of my hand, sending tingles to my body.
Stupid matebond! I screamed in my head. No matter how much I hated him, the stupid matebond would make me feel attracted to him.
He smirked as if he knew the effect of his kiss on my body.
Of course he knew, I bet he felt it himself!
I pulled my hand back, and he let it go.
"What is this?" I asked him again as I brought my hand up and pointed the bangle with my finger.
He smiled and pulled out another similar bangle, only slightly wider and in a bigger size before placing it around his own wrist, making me speechless.
"This, little mate." He pointed to his own bangle before continuing, "Is a special bangle I bought for us. It has a built-in monitoring system and the two bangles are bound to each other."
"What do you mean by bound to each other?" I asked with narrowed eyes. I didn't like the sound of it at all.
"The two bangles have a few tubes of poison in them," he said, which increased the uneasiness I felt in my heart.
"You want us to die of poison?" I asked him in disbelief.
"Oh no, my dearest mate. It can monitor our pulses and if either your or my pulse stops…" he paused to add a mysterious dramatic effect. "The built-in probe in the bangle will release the poison at the same time."
My eyes widened in shock.
"Now we are both truly 'till death do us part'. If you die, I'll die and if I die, you'll die. Our lives are both in each other's hands," he sighed wistfully as if this was a good thing.
I was so shocked and tried to take the bangle off desperately, but couldn't find an opening or clasp to open it. I tried to put pressure everywhere around the bangle in the hope it could open up, but nothing seemed to work.
"How do you open this?" I asked him a stupid question. It was impossible for him to tell me the answer since he truly wanted us to die together.
"It's useless to try to open it, little mate. It's custom-made. Once it felt the warmth of the skin and the rhythm of a pulse, it can't be opened anymore," he said with a smirk. "The only way to get rid of it is to chop off your hand, but then I don't think you'll do it. You won't have the heart to kill me, your mate."
"Aleksander, you are crazy!" I yelled at him and got off the bed, putting as much distance between us as possible.
"But Lottie…" The way he called my nickname sent goosebumps through my body.
"They are couple bangles and we'll die together no matter what. Don't you think it's romantic?" he asked with an innocent expression.
I felt creeped out by his words.
What kind of man would imprison their mate in such a twisted way and still thought it was romantic?
"Alexander!" I roared and fisted my hand, wanting to punch him straight in his sexy face.
He seemed to have anticipated it as he smirked and caught my fist easily, twisting my arm behind my back and his other hand curled around my neck.
He bent down and placed his lips next to my ear, his warm breath against my ear caused my heart to beat fast.
"Tsk, little mate. This is not the way to treat your mate, is it?" he threw my words back at me before I felt his tongue tracing my ear lobe, making me moan, and tilt my head sideways to give him more access.
"I can smell your arousal, little mate," he chuckled.
His words made me realize what I had just done. I had never hated a matebond so much, not until this moment.
"And you smell so damn good," he husked out and moaned as he thrust his hips, his hardness nudged my back.
I bit my tongue to wake myself up since the matebond was strong and I nearly couldn't resist it.
"Let me go!" I growled and struggled, only for him to moan louder because my back was rubbing against his erection.
Shameless! He didn't even try to hide his moans!
"Little mate…" he called me with a voice thick with lust but suddenly stopped and let me go.
"Unfortunately I have to go," he sighed.
I guessed he must have received a mindlink.
"I don't want to share a bedroom with you!" I blurted out. I might not be able to resist his advances if we stayed in the bedroom.
This was strange. My matebond with Aleksander felt stronger than the one I had with Theo.
Even though I still had Lexi when I was with Theo, I could resist him.
But with Aleksander… I had no wolf, yet it was more difficult to resist him.
What was wrong with the Moon Goddess?
He looked at me and seemed to contemplate my request and said, "Alright."
His answer shocked me. I thought he would force me to sleep with him, but he didn't. Could it be that he was actually a nice man?
"I can fuck other she-wolves," he smirked.
Bye, bye, wishful thinking... I felt stupid for thinking a mafia Alpha could be nice.
"I'll ask someone to help you settle in the room next to this," he said as he adjusted his pants and turned to leave.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
He stopped and turned around to see me. "Why, little mate? Can't bear to part with me?"
"Get lost!"
What a narcissist...
He laughed and turned to leave again.
"And don't call me 'little mate' anymore!" I yelled to his back.
He let out another laugh as he opened the door and closed it behind him.
A while later an Omega knocked on my door and led me to the room next door.
It was another palatial room but with white and gold color, not gray like his room.
I sat on the bed and cursed the matebond. I didn't want to sleep with Aleksander no matter what happened. Somehow it felt like I was cheating on Hayden and didn't feel good.
I let out a sigh when I heard the door being knocked again. I opened it to see the blackened and hunchback Hyden bringing me a tray of food.
"Come in," I said coldly as I knew he was still in disguise.
He followed me silently into the room and I heard the door being closed before I felt his arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me back against him.
He buried his face in the crook of my neck and inhaled my scent. "Lottie… I wa-"
He spun me around and took my hand, touching the silver bangle. "Aleksander gave you this?"
"He's crazy, Hayden! He wants the two of us to die together!" I exclaimed in frustration.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"This bangle is bound to the one he's wearing! He said…" And I told him everything about the bangle.
When I finished telling him about it, I was pulled into his arms and he rubbed my back.
"We'll find a way to take it off. I'll find a way to open it. I won't let him control you this way, Lottie. I promise I'll find a way."
Hearing his words and feeling his warmth, all my pent-up emotions seemed to explode and my defenses crumbled down.
I cried as I buried my face in his chest. "What's wrong with me, Hayden? Why is the Moon Goddess so cruel to me?"
"Nothing is wrong with you, Lottie. You are perfect," he comforted me.
"Can you stay with me longer?" I sobbed.
"I can. Aleksander has left the pack and won't be coming back until tomorrow. And it's my shift to guard you now."
I lifted my head and pulled his head down, kissing him with everything I had, not caring about the soot on his face.
"Make love to me, Hayden," I pleaded with him. " Make me forget everything."
I didn't want to think about my matebond with Aleksander, the poisonous bangle, or anything else.
He understood what I wanted. He picked me up and placed me on the bed. He worshipped my body until I forgot all the things that were disturbing me and replaced them with his love for me.
