Chapter 27: THE FORMULA
FORMULA
She opened her mouth in shock when she saw the meaning of the incantation. Its meaning was weird yet powerful.
She carried her pen and book and wrote them down. She began searching for the meaning and the origination of the formula.
She was annoyed because there wasn’t any spell or incantation to break the bond totally.
It was just to stay hidden from them, which was very frustrating. She wrote down the English version of the incantation:
Spell of Breaking the Bond
To shatter the bond — hide the seal,
Signed or not — the soul must be locked in the tower.
Let my bound companion fall into slumber,
And complete with me the ancient design.
Cover his eyes with the shadow of forgetting,
Envision pure light with a mind made clear,
And open for me the path to freedom —
That I may walk free, and never return.
She kept repeating the chant continuously, and it whispered to her again, echoing in her head like a curse.
She looked at the symbols and equipment that were drawn and listed in the journal. They looked ordinary, but she knew the items weren’t.
She searched for the importance and need for all of them, but there was a problem. “Where am I going to get all this stuff?” she asked.
Most of the things listed were things she couldn’t find easily. She didn’t know where to find the candle with the scent of bloodroot.
The ingredients and materials were very hard to find. She had a silver mirror—every wolf was supposed to own a silver mirror.
They were used to reverse words or see another territory.
She had no choice than to call Caleb for help. He was the only one she could trust completely.
She didn’t know why, but she felt he was trustworthy. She felt like they were close in their past lives, if there’s something like that.
“Hello, it’s me again,” Aria said.
Caleb cleared his throat. “Hi, it’s been a while. How are you doing?” he asked calmly.
Aria’s heart skipped a bit when she heard his voice. “I’m good. How about you?” she replied.
“I need your help. There are some items I need, but I can’t go out to find them. Please, can you help me?” she pleaded.
Caleb couldn’t deny Aria anything. She barely asked him for help, even when they were best friends.
Aria had always been the type to suffer by herself instead of asking for help when it was needed.
She only asked for help when it was the last option left. This had always made Caleb upset over time.
Hearing her asking for help was a rare occurrence. “What do you need?” Caleb asked.
Aria named the things she needed, but Caleb was shocked. “What do you need these items for?” he asked curiously.
Aria was quiet for a while. “I need them for an experiment,” she broke the silence.
Caleb sighed. “If you say so. Where should it be delivered to you?” he asked.
She mentioned a familiar location closer to where she was.
After a while, she got a notification that her package had arrived. She thought of the ways she would avoid Damien.
But luckily, Damien was asleep, and he couldn’t hear her going out. The items were delivered to her, and she made sure the items were complete before heading back home.
Aria arrived at the mansion. She looked around continuously to inspect if Damien had woken up from his sleep.
She got into her room fast and quietly. She brought out the items she got from Caleb—this was the only opportunity she had to go unnoticed.
Aria traced the symbols on the page with her fingertip. “What if this is the only way?” she whispered. “If I hide the bond, I’ll be free. I’ll be able to think for myself… feel for myself,” she said.
Aria had always felt like she was being monitored and followed after she was marked. Damien never gave her a breathing space.
Even when she went to the bathroom, he would confirm if that’s where she was. She never got to do anything on her own.
“Do I really need to do this?” she asked, looking worried.
But fear gripped her heart. What if it backfired? What if it destroyed the little trust she had with Damien—or worse, triggered a deeper rage in him?
She shook her head. “No. I need to do this. I need to know who I really am without the bond clouding my judgment.”
That night, Aria gathered everything she needed—salt, herbs, a candle laced with the scent of bloodroot, and a silver mirror. The ingredients listed in the journal were strange, but she found most of them in the basement beneath the library, in a chest that had obviously been untouched for years.
As she laid the items before her on the floor, she whispered, “If I do this, there’s no turning back.”
She began to memorize the incantation:
Incantatio Disruptionis Vinculi
(Spell of Breaking the Bond)
Ut vinculum frangatur — sigillum absconde,
Sive signatum sive non — anima turrī claudenda est.
Socius meus ligatus in somnum cadat,
Et formula mecum completa sit, sorte antiqua.
Oculos eius tegas umbrā oblivionis,
Lucem puram mente clarā finge,
Et mihi viam ad libertatem aperi —
Ut ambulem liber, nec umquam revertar.
You had to know the incantation and its meaning for the formula to work well. She memorized the incantation line by line, until she could say it however she pleased.
Aria arranged the equipment needed for the formula and placed the ingredients in them just as it was stated in the book.
She lit candles everywhere and switched off her room light. She could feel the sensation coming from the candle.
She arranged everything accordingly and she sat down in the middle of it.
Outside, the full moon had already begun to rise, while Damien was thrown into deep sleep from the smell of the candles.
Aria was prepared for anything. It could be war, but only one thing mattered—one of them would come out of it unharmed.
