Chapter 44 Rescued
Chapter 44 Rescued
Lena’s POV
Everything hurt. My body felt unbearably heavy. I could barely keep my eyes open anymore.
Whatever they injected into me… It was getting worse. My head throbbed violently while weakness spread through every part of my body like poison.
I swallowed hard and tried pulling weakly against the restraints again.
The silver chains remained firmly locked around me.
The room was silent except for the occasional footsteps of the two guards standing nearby. The leader had already left.
Fear twisted painfully in my stomach again. I didn’t even fully understand what they wanted from me. Or what I was becoming.
One of the guards suddenly moved.
I stiffened immediately.
The taller one walked toward a nearby table calmly before picking something up.
And my blood ran cold instantly.
Another injection?! No. Absolutely not.
Panic surged through me immediately as he approached slowly.
“Wait,” I whispered weakly.
The man ignored me completely.
My breathing became uneven.
“I’m not going anywhere,” I said quickly, desperately. “Look at me. I can barely move.”
Still nothing. The needle glinted under the dim light as he stepped closer.
Fear slammed violently into my chest now.
Whatever was inside that thing weakened me every time.
If they injected me again…
“I said please…”
CRASH!
The loud sound echoed violently from somewhere outside the room.
All three of us froze. The second guard immediately turned toward the door.
“What the hell was that?”
Another crash followed. Closer this time.
The guards exchanged sharp looks instantly.
“Stay here,” one muttered.
As if I had another choice. Both men rushed toward the door immediately.
The second they stepped outside, I heard shouting. Then fighting. Then another loud crash.
My heart started pounding rapidly.
What was happening? The sounds got closer. Heavy footsteps.
Someone slammed into the wall outside.
Then suddenly, the door burst open.
For a second, my blurry vision couldn’t process what I was seeing.
A figure rushed toward me immediately.
Tall. Broad shoulders. Dark hair.
Adrian?
Relief hit me so hard it almost hurt.
“Adrian…” My voice came out weak and broken.
His eyes locked onto mine instantly.
And I had never seen him look that furious before. Pure rage burned across his face as he dropped beside the chair.
“Lena.”
The way he said my name, like he’d been terrified he wouldn’t see me alive again.
My chest tightened painfully.
Adrian grabbed the silver restraints immediately without hesitation. And my eyes widened in panic.
“Wait, the silver…”
He ignored me completely.
Smoke lightly burned against his skin as he ripped the restraints apart anyway.
His jaw tightened in pain, but he didn’t stop.
“Idiot,” I whispered weakly.
A shaky laugh escaped him.
“You’re really insulting me right now?”
The moment the restraints fell away, my body nearly collapsed forward. Adrian caught me immediately. Strong arms wrapped around me tightly.
Warm. Safe.
My vision blurred slightly again.
I didn’t realize how terrified I’d been until that moment.
“You’re okay,” Adrian murmured against my hair. “I’ve got you.”
Something inside me cracked completely.
I grabbed onto his shirt weakly as relief flooded through me.
Then suddenly, Adrian tilted my chin upward gently and kissed me.
Soft. Careful.
Like he was afraid I’d disappear if he held me too hard.
“You scared the hell out of me,” he whispered against my forehead afterward.
Before I could respond, more footsteps echoed into the room.
Zara rushed in first.
“Oh my God.”
Her eyes widened immediately when she saw me. Behind her came Xavier and surprisingly Raphael too.
Relief washed across Zara’s face instantly as she dropped beside me.
“You idiot,” she whispered shakily. “Do you know how worried I was?”
I tried smiling weakly.
“Sorry.”
Xavier glanced around the destroyed room carefully.
“Okay, this place officially looks insane.”
Raphael looked equally disturbed.
“Who kidnaps people inside a school?”
“Psychopaths,” Zara answered immediately.
Adrian’s arms remained firmly around me the entire time. Like he refused to let go again.
Honestly? I didn’t want him to.
Then suddenly, Adrian frowned slightly.
“Where’s Damian?”
The room went quiet briefly. Zara blinked.
“He was behind us a second ago.”
Raphael looked toward the hallway.
“He disappeared during the fight.”
Something uneasy twisted in my stomach.
Before anyone could say more, footsteps echoed toward the room quickly.
Then Damian appeared in the doorway breathing heavily.
“There you guys are.”
Adrian’s eyes narrowed immediately.
“What took you so long?”
Damian wiped blood from the corner of his mouth casually.
“Had to deal with the bodies.”
Bodies?
Xavier looked alarmed.
“…You killed them?”
Damian shrugged.
“They tried killing us first.”
The room fell silent awkwardly. But Adrian still looked unconvinced.
Zara suddenly grabbed my hand tightly.
“Come on,” she said softly. “We need to get you out of here.”
The second our skin touched, Pain exploded through her instantly.
Zara gasped sharply.
Light suddenly burst violently from her hand into mine.
Everyone froze.
“What the hell?!” Xavier shouted.
I stared in horror as glowing silver energy poured directly from Zara’s body into mine.
My breathing became uneven immediately.
No. No no no.
Zara cried out painfully.
“It hurts!”
Panic slammed into me instantly.
I tried pulling away but i couldn’t.
My hand was locked onto hers somehow.
“What’s happening?!” Adrian shouted.
“I don’t know!” I cried desperately.
The energy flowing into me grew stronger.
Hotter. My body suddenly felt stronger again. Healthier.
While Zara looked weaker by the second.
“No… stop!” Zara gasped painfully.
Terror filled me completely.
“I can’t!”
The room started shaking slightly.
And suddenly, that familiar heat exploded inside me again.
My vision sharpened violently.
Then Adrian froze. Because my eyes had changed again.
Fear flooded everyone’s faces instantly.
Especially mine.
“No…” I whispered shakily.
Raphael reacted first. Fast.
The vampire lunged forward and grabbed Zara hard, ripping her away from me forcefully.
The energy connection snapped instantly.
Zara collapsed weakly against him.
Unconscious.
“No!”
I nearly fell out of Adrian’s arms trying to reach her.
“What did I do?!”
Raphael held Zara carefully, his expression unusually serious now.
“She’s breathing,” he said quickly. “She’s just weak.”
Guilt slammed violently into my chest.
This was my fault.
I stared at my trembling hands in horror.
What was happening to me?
Why was I hurting people?
Adrian tightened his grip around me slightly.
“Lena,” he said carefully.
But I was already panicking.
“We need t
o go,” I said immediately.
Everyone looked at me.
“To who?” Xavier asked.
My breathing shook badly now.
“Professor Selene.”
Adrian frowned instantly.
“The witch professor?”
I nodded quickly. Fear and desperation clawed violently through my chest.
“She can help,” I whispered.
