The Royal Healer's Secret

The Royal Healer's Secret

– Maximus’s POV –

The moment I reached the southern border, the stench of blood hit me.

The ground was a mess. Torn apart. Arrows stuck in the dirt. Vampire bodies turning to ash as my men finishes them off.

My wolf inside was going insane, demanding I shift, tear, and kill every damn thing that moved.

Then I saw her.

Lyra.

She was about to fall, her body limp, like she had no strength left.

I moved before she hit the ground. Good thing, my arms caught her in time. She was so light in my hold it made my stomach twist. Her head rested against my chest, her eyes closed... and her face pale.

“Lyra.” Her name came out rough. Too rough.

She wasn’t moving.

I pressed my hand to her cheek. Cold... too cold.

“Fuck,” I growled.

My chest felt tight, like someone was crushing my ribs. My mind ran into the worst thoughts.

Then Harold showed up with his squad. His armor was covered in blood, his sword was dripping red, but the idiot still wore that usual grin. Always too easygoing for someone in the middle of a damn war.

“Master!” Harold shouted as he came to a stop. His grin faded when he saw Lyra in my arms. “She hurt?”

“She fainted,” I snapped, my voice like ice.

Harold’s eyes went to the treeline where more vampires were watching, with glowing red eyes waiting for their chance.

I glared at him. “Handle the rest. Kill every last one of those bastards.”

“Yes, Master!” Harold shouted back and moved fast, barking orders to the soldiers.

I didn’t watch. I didn’t care... My thoughts were filled with Lyra, I don't know what happened... but I want nothing but her... alive.

I carried Lyra to my horse, holding her tight, afraid that someone might try to rip her away from me. My jaw ached from how hard I was clenching it.

My heart wouldn’t calm down, as fire crawling inside my body.

This was on my father... he sent her here... he put her in this mess.

That bastard will pay for this.

I mounted the horse with Lyra in my arms and turned back toward the palace.

We rode fast as the sounds of battle fading behind us. But the rage inside me stayed.

She was too quiet... too still, but warm enough now, that I knew she was alive.

It was the only thing keeping me from riding back and tearing the entire southern border apart with my own hands.

“Don’t you fucking dare leave me, Lyra.”

\- Lyra's POV -

I opened my eyes and found myself standing in the middle of a field covered in silver light. There was no wind, no sound, nothing moving.

Just soft, silver light everywhere. "Where... am I?"

I turned slowly, my heart pounding for reasons I didn’t understand.

And then I saw... two figures standing ahead of me.

A woman, glowing like the moon itself, her long hair falling like a river of light, eyes bright and full of something I couldn’t name. Power. Sadness. And love.

Beside her… was a massive wolf.

The same one from the book I had read... the first wolf. His black fur shone under the moonlight, his golden eyes watching me like he knew me.

I froze, my hands trembling at my sides.

I had seen them in the book... The Moon Goddess and the First Wolf. The ones who had started everything.

The Goddess looked at me quietly, like she was waiting for me...

I walked closer to them, then I froze when I realized something.

Her face.

I stopped breathing.

It was… the same as my mother I saw in a dream... exactly the same.

The same eyes. The same smile. The same gentle way she tilted her head when she looked at me.

My heart slammed against my ribs. “M-Mother?” My voice cracked.

The Moon Goddess didn’t answer right away. Her smile was soft, and warm...

Then she spoke, and her voice wrapped around me like a soft blanket.

“My child.”

I froze.

She called me… child.

My chest tightened, and I didn’t know if I wanted to cry or scream.

Why?

Why did she look like my mother?

Why was she calling me her child? Was the Moon Goddess... my mother?

I wanted to ask a thousand questions, but my voice wouldn’t work.

The Moon Goddess stepped closer, reaching out like she wanted to touch my face but stopped just before she did. Her eyes were soft, but there was something heavy in them, something sad.

“They will come for you, my child,” she said quietly. “Stay with him.”

Her voice carried weight, like a warning and a promise at the same time.

“Who..?” I asked, my voice breaking. “Who will come, Mom? Please tell me... what’s happening?”

But before I could finish, the silver light around us started to break apart.

The field. The Moon Goddess. The First Wolf.

Everything shattered like glass under my feet.

“No, wait!” I reached toward her, panic filling my chest. “Please don’t go!”

But she was already fading.

Her voice came one last time, soft but clear:

“Stay with him.”

And then everything was gone.

\---

I woke up with a gasp.

The silver field. The Moon Goddess. Her voice.

It all vanished... a dream again... just one of my dreams.

My heart was pounding so fast as my eyes slowly focused on the ceiling above me.

White walls... a soft bed under me... and the faint smell of herbs in the air.

I wasn’t outside anymore.

I wasn’t at the border.

I was… somewhere... but where?

“Easy dear,” a woman’s voice said softly.

I turned my head quickly and saw her sitting beside the bed.

She was beautiful, maybe in her thirties, with long dark hair tied neatly behind her and calm green eyes that watched me like she already knew what I was thinking.

She smiled a little when she saw me looking. “You’re awake. Good.”

I swallowed hard, my throat dry. “Where… where am I? How did I get here..?

“You're in the Royal Healing Wing,” she said gently, reaching over to check the pulse in my wrist. Her touch was cool and careful. “You fainted in the middle of the battle, and the Prince carried you here. You’ve been asleep for two days.”

Royal Healing Wing... Prince... Two days- wait what!? 2 days!?

“Who… who are you?” I asked slowly. My voice felt small.

“I'm Miraine,” she said with a small smile. “the royal healer.”

She moved gracefully, checking the bandages on my arm even though I didn’t remember being hurt there.

Her hands glowed faintly for a second as she brushed her fingers over my skin. A warmth spread through me, and the ache in my body faded almost instantly.

“You’ll be fine after a moment,” Miraine said softly.

I stared at her. Something about the way she said it… like she knew more than just about my health. Like she knew something else entirely.

“What… what happened to me?” I asked before I could stop myself. “Back there… with the vampires. I… killed them. The light… it came out of me. I didn’t even know what I was doing.”

Miraine’s eyes met mine. For a second, I thought she was going to kill me or get mad at me.

But then she just smiled faintly and shook her head.

“Rest, child,” she said softly. “Your body needs time.”

I wanted to ask more, but my chest still felt heavy, my mind too full.

I thought of the Moon Goddess.

Of her face.

Of her calling me her child.

And of her last words.

'Stay with him.'

My hands gripped the sheets tightly as my heart pounded again.

Who was “him”?

“Wait- did you just say earlier that... Prince Maximus... carried me here?” I asked as my heart keeps beating faster.

She smiled and nodded. “I’ll leave you to rest for now, okay?” she said before walking out.

Prince Maximus... carried me?

The thought made my chest feel tight and strange, as if butterflies were crawling inside my stomach. Damn.

I pushed it away quickly.

Still… I guess I should thank him... right?
