Chapter 154: PERFECT ENDING

The bright orange light cast long shadows over the green grass, and the cool evening breeze swept through the busy valley.

The loud games in the dirt clearing finally stopped, and the tired village pups started walking back to their own wooden cabins.

Our son and daughter ran back to our woven blanket, and they rubbed their sleepy eyes with their dirty little hands.

"You both played very hard today, so it is time to go inside and wash the mud off your feet," Vladislav told them.

"I am not sleepy yet, Father," the little boy argued with a very big yawn, and he leaned his tired body against Vladislav's leg.

"Your yawns tell a very different story, and your sister is already falling asleep standing up," I pointed out the obvious truth.

Our daughter did not argue with us, and she simply reached her small arms up toward her tall father.

Vladislav smiled at her silent request, and he easily scooped both of the heavy toddlers up into his strong arms.

"I will carry them inside the cabin, and you can bring the woven blanket," he offered, and he adjusted his firm grip on the children.

I stood up from the soft grass, and I folded the large blanket before I followed my family toward our heavy wooden door.

We stepped inside the warm cabin, and the familiar smell of fresh pine and sweet herbal tea welcomed us home.

Vladislav carried the twins directly into the washroom, and he used a warm damp cloth to clean the dirt from their hands and faces.

The warm water relaxed their tired muscles even more, and they did not try to fight the fast evening routine.

We helped them change into their soft cotton sleepwear, and we walked them into their cozy nursery room.

The wooden cribs were gone, and two small wooden beds now sat right next to the large glass window.

Vladislav tucked the little boy under his thick wool blanket, and I made sure our daughter had her favorite stuffed rabbit.

"Will you tell us a short story before we sleep?" the little boy asked, and he looked up at his father with wide blue eyes.

"I will tell you one very quick story, but then you must close your eyes and rest until the morning," Vladislav bargained with him.

He sat down on the wooden chair between their beds, and he kept his deep voice very soft so he would not wake the neighbors.

"There once was a very brave Wolf Queen, and she traveled across the dark mountains to save her people from a bad king," he began the tale.

"Did she have bright silver magic just like me?" our little daughter whispered, and she clutched the soft rabbit to her chest.

"She had the brightest silver magic in the whole world, and she used it to protect everyone she loved," Vladislav answered her.

"She met a strong vampire warrior along the way, and he promised to help her fight the bad soldiers," I added the next part of the story.

"They fought very hard together, and they chased all the bad magic away from their green forest," Vladislav finished the simple plot.

"They built a big wooden house near the river, and they lived happily ever after with their two amazing pups," he concluded.

The familiar story worked perfectly, and the twins both fell fast asleep before he even finished the final sentence.

We stood in the quiet nursery for another minute, and we listened to the steady rhythm of their deep breathing.

We carefully walked out of the dark room, and Vladislav gently pulled the heavy wooden door shut behind us.

"They really love hearing that story, and they ask for it almost every single night," I noted with a soft laugh.

"They need to know their true history, or they might forget how hard we fought for this peace," he replied, and he walked into the living room.

He walked past the warm stone fireplace, and he pushed the front door open to step out onto our wooden porch.

I followed right behind him, and the cool evening air felt incredibly refreshing against my warm skin.

The dark night sky was totally clear, and thousands of bright stars shined above the tall pine trees.

The village was very quiet now, and only the gentle sound of the rushing river filled the silent mountain valley.

Vladislav leaned his broad back against the sturdy wooden porch railing, and he crossed his strong arms over his chest.

I walked over to him, and I wrapped my arms around his waist to pull myself close to his warm body.

He uncrossed his arms to hold me tight, and he rested his chin gently on the top of my head.

"The pack mothers were right when they said the first three years go by very fast," he whispered into the dark night.

"Our babies are growing up, and they are learning how to use their special gifts every single day," I agreed with his quiet thought.

"I still worry about them sometimes, but I know this valley is the safest place in the world for them," he confessed his lingering fears.

"We removed all the threats, and the southern courts do not even have a real army anymore," I reminded him of our massive victory.

"The new southern leaders signed the peace treaty last month, so they will never cross our borders again," he acknowledged the solid facts.

"We do not have to look over our shoulders, nor do we have to hide our magic from the shadow-weavers," I said with deep relief.

We stood together on the quiet porch, and we simply enjoyed the absolute stillness of our secure territory.

I tilted my head back to look up at his handsome face, and the bright moonlight illuminated his strong jawline.

His bright blue eyes looked down at me, and I saw a lifetime of pure love and devotion shining in his steady gaze.

He reached his hand up, and he gently brushed a stray lock of silver hair away from my cheek.

His touch sent a familiar warm shiver down my spine, and my heart beat a little bit faster inside my chest.

"You are the most beautiful woman I have ever known, Bellatrix," he murmured, and his deep voice rumbled in the quiet air.

"You are a very handsome vampire, and you are the greatest father in the northern forests," I complimented him right back.

He leaned his head down, and he pressed his warm lips against mine for a very slow and passionate kiss.

I closed my eyes, and I poured all of my profound gratitude and love into the deep embrace.

The sweet kiss anchored my soul, and it chased away the last lingering memories of our painful past.

We pulled apart slowly, but we kept our foreheads resting together under the bright and glowing stars.

"I thought about the dark underground dungeon today, and I remembered the heavy iron chains," he admitted with a solemn tone.

"I remember the cold stone floor, but I also remember you broke the metal door to save me," I answered him honestly.

"I was so terrified I would lose you, and I never felt true fear until that exact day," he revealed his deepest vulnerability.

"We both survived the terrible darkness, and we came out much stronger on the other side," I reasoned, and I squeezed his waist tight.

"You taught me how to care about life, and you showed me how to protect innocent people," he praised my influence on his soul.

"You taught me how to trust a vampire, and you proved your endless loyalty to my pack," I stated the truth of our powerful bond.

We looked out at the peaceful dirt clearings, and we saw the warm firelight glowing in the windows of the nearby cabins.

Our loyal friends were sleeping safely in their beds, and the green valley was finally free from all the ancient grudges.

The forest spirits blessed our union, and the Moon Goddess gave us the most precious gift of a real family.

We did not need massive armies or expensive gold crowns, because we possessed everything we truly needed right here on this wooden porch.

Vladislav took a very deep breath of the fresh mountain air, and he looked back at our sturdy wooden home.

He thought about the two amazing children sleeping inside the warm nursery, and a perfect smile touched his lips.

He wrapped both of his strong arms around my shoulders, and he pulled me even closer to his chest.

Vladislav held me tight under the starry sky, looked at our perfect home, and said, "We spent our whole lives fighting to survive, Bellatrix... but now, we finally get to live."
