Chapter 440: The Powell Family Wins, The Thornton Family Is Out
The match between The Whispering Sect and the Guest family ended in less than a minute, but the competitions in the other arenas had just begun.
Both sides were fighting intensely in each arena.
Arena 3 was the first to decide a winner. The match on Arena 3 was between the Powell family and the Thornton family, drawing the largest crowd.
In less than five minutes, members of the Thornton family were thrown off the arena one after another by Zander, Tristan, and the others. The Powell family won with overwhelming strength.
"The Powell family wins! The Thornton family is out!"
The organizers announced the result.
The spectators sighed in amazement.
"The Powell family really lives up to their reputation! They've got real strength!"
This result lived up to everyone's expectations of the Powell family.
In the spectator seats, the Powell family members' expressions didn't change much.
This result was within their expectations.
For the Powell family, the only opponents worth noting in this competition were the Fife family and the Whispering Sect. As for facing the other teams, the Powell family had a hundred percent chance of winning.
The Thornton family members quickly left the competition area.
The Thornton family head, Elisha's face was naturally grim , though from the moment they drew the Powell family as opponents, he had expected this outcome.
"This is the gap between you and the Powell family! And you call yourselves the Thornton family elite. When we get back, you're all doing extra training!"
Callum clenched his fists, keeping his head down, not daring to speak.
After their big victory, Zander and the others were in good spirits, quite excited as they walked off the arena.
"The Thornton family isn't all that."
"Hope the rest of the matches go this smoothly."
"..."
Just then, Zander spotted Isabella wandering through the crowd and let out a cold snort.
They fought hard on stage and won the match, while Isabella just reaped the benefits without any effort.
How could there be such freeloaders in this world? It was disgusting.
Right now, they were just facing the Thornton family, and even with just the five of them, they could win. But later, if they faced members of the Fife family or The Whispering Sect, the five of them would probably have a hard time winning.
Zander's good mood instantly vanished just from one glance at Isabella.
So unlucky.
"Zander, what's wrong?" Felicity noticed something was off with Zander and looked at him with concern.
"Nothing."
Zander looked away.
He felt that even looking at Isabella once was a waste.
——
The matches in the other arenas continued.
They gradually decided their winners, too.
The Powell family, the Jordan family, and the Banks family—the top three families—all advanced.
Among the lower four families, the Fife family and the Bautista familyadvanced.
All in all, five of the seven great families successfully advanced. The Thornton family and the Guest family, unlucky enough to face opponents like the Powell family and the Whispering Sect, were unfortunately eliminated.
Besides that, the Bishop family and the Trevino family, the only two of the thirty-six noble families to register, both advanced. Their opponents were two organizational forces, whose strength naturally couldn't match the noble families.
The Whispering Sect also advanced, the only organizational force to do so.
After the first round ended, all the major families were discussing the results.
"Who would've thought that the Thornton family and the Guest family, both part of the seven great families, would be eliminated in the first round, while two minor noble families smoothly secured advancement spots!"
"Advancing isn't everything. The ultimate goal of this competition is to compete for first place. Among these eight remaining forces, who do you think will win?"
"The Powell family, of course!"
"Exactly, the Powell family is the undisputed first family. They'll definitely take first place in this competition!"
"But I feel like theWhispering Sect also has a good chance of taking first place?"
"Not only that, I think the Fife family has some real strength too!"
There were all kinds of guesses.
But they all bounced between the Powell family, the Whispering Sect, and the Fife family. Everyone believed that the champion of this competition would definitely come from these three.
As for the other families, especially the Trevino family and the Bishop family, who "luckily" advanced, they would definitely become background players in the next round.
As the organizers of the competition, the Ancient Martial Arts Alliance announced the advancement list, then declared:
"The first round is over. We'll take a break now. The second round will begin in half an hour. We'll still use the drawing lots method, with head-to-head matches, and winners advance! Please use this time to rest well and prepare for the upcoming matches."
After everyone dispersed, Isabella went to the rest area and grabbed a free bottle of water.
While drinking, Isabella felt someone watching her.
She looked over and saw Walter standing there.
Walter's expression darkened . He walked toward Isabella and gave her a cold glance, his voice full of disdain. "Isabella, I thought you'd at least get on the arena, but you're so cowardly you don't even dare step onto it. What a joke!"
Isabella narrowed her eyes at Walter and asked back, "Who told you I didn't get on the arena because I was scared?"
"What other reason could there be?"
Isabella smiled slightly. "I'm not that cowardly. Besides, whether I get on the arena or not, what's it to you? Is it any of your business? Don't forget, you're just here in Elyndra as a spectator, not as a competing member representing the Powell family. So you should stay out of competition matters!"
Walter's face darkened at Isabella's retort. "You..."
He didn't want to argue with Isabella. Walter clenched his fists and said in a deep voice, "Isabella, I'm here to talk to you about something serious."
"What is it?"
"I want to rejoin the team and participate in the upcoming matches," Walter said.
Isabella frowned slightly at his words.
She glanced at Walter's previously injured hand, her eyes narrowing. "Walter, you'd rather break your arm than participate in the competition before, and now you're telling me you've changed your mind? Did I hear that right?"
"I really want to rejoin the team," Walter said seriously.
"Give me a reason."
"My brother also died four years ago because of The Whispering Sect," Walter said. "So I want to compete against The Whispering Sect."
This reason surprised Isabella.
"I didn't know before that The Whispering Sect would participate in this competition." Walter continued. "If we can face members of The Whispering Sect and beat them with my own hands, it would be revenge for my brother."
This ancient martial arts competition only limited the number of people who could compete in each match, but didn't restrict which people from each force could participate. In other words, the people competing in the next round could be six completely different people from before, and even the team leader could be temporarily replaced.
But the Powell family hadn't planned to frequently change their competitors. This time, they only sent seven elite members, plus Isabella, making eight people total. The extra two were substitute members, in case something happened to any of the five main competitors and they needed to step in.
