Chapter 276: Mabel Couldn't Hold Out Anymore

A mocking smile curved Sophia's lips. "My dear uncle really can't wait, can he? Christopher just got locked up, and he's already rushing to bail people out to use as his pawns. God forbid I live too comfortably."

"Ms. Brown, should I submit this evidence to the police right now?" Calvin asked.

"No need." Sophia shook her head slightly. "This evidence isn't enough to take him down. Since he dared to do this, he must have already thought up his excuses. He'll just make up some story and clear himself."

Her tone grew heavier. "Assign more people. Watch Sullivan around the clock. Who he meets, what calls he makes, where he goes—every single detail, write it all down."

"If anything happens, tell me immediately. I want to see what tricks he's going to pull next."

"Yes, Ms. Brown. I'll arrange it right away." Calvin responded promptly.

After hanging up, the coldness in Sophia's eyes grew deeper.

Sullivan.

Over a decade ago, he killed her parents. Over a decade later, he wants to take the Brown Group and smear her mother's reputation.

She would settle this account, item by item, with full interest.

Before long, there was a gentle knock on the office door. An assistant walked in. "Ms. Brown, this is the list of partners who reached out after yesterday's charity gala, along with their cooperation proposals."

He placed the documents in front of Sophia, his face showing some excitement. "Seventeen companies in total. Three of them are established firms that have always worked with the Smith Group, and two are industry leaders in import-export trade."

"We tried negotiating with them several times before without success, but now they've come to us on their own."

Sophia picked up the top few documents and flipped through them. Sure enough, they were all companies with solid industry reputations.

When she first took over the Brown Group, these people had all taken a wait-and-see attitude. Some had even privately contacted Sullivan, waiting to watch her fail.

After just one charity gala, where she simply showed up and chatted with a few business veterans, these people did a complete one-eighty.

In the end, it was all about following the money and avoiding risk.

"Have the legal department review these proposals first. If there are no issues, schedule meetings with their executives for detailed discussions." Sophia's tone was calm. "Also, restart all those projects Sullivan had been blocking."

"Allocate funds and personnel as a priority. I want everyone to know that the Brown Group is only going to get better under my leadership."

"Yes, Ms. Brown." The assistant took the documents and left.

For the rest of the morning, Sophia's office had a constant stream of visitors.

Department managers took turns reporting their work, their attitudes as respectful as could be.

Those who had previously paid lip service to her while secretly reporting to Sullivan now kept their heads down, not daring to show the slightest negligence.

Everyone could see that Sophia was now calling the shots at the Brown Group.

The power Sullivan had built up over more than a decade in the company had been dismantled by more than half in just a few days.

Now that she had backing from so many partners and was riding high, no one dared cross her at this moment.

Meanwhile, in the deputy general manager's office in the Brown Group's old building, Sullivan was staring intently at the Brown Group's latest stock price trend chart on his computer screen.

On the screen, the red curve soared upward, stinging his eyes.

Sullivan suddenly slammed his fist on the desk.

"Bitch! What a bitch!" he cursed through gritted teeth, his eyes full of resentment and rage.

His plan had been flawless.

First, he'd use the people Mabel had planted in the company to gradually drain the Brown Group's assets, then create several major investment failures to completely break the Brown Group's cash flow.

When the Brown Group was on the verge of bankruptcy, he would swoop in as the savior, buying up the Brown Group's most valuable factories and properties at rock-bottom prices, then create a shell company and re-register.

By then, Emilio's life's work would completely become his, Sullivan's.

He'd been laying the groundwork for this plan for over a decade.

He'd calculated everything—except for Sophia suddenly appearing.

This girl barely in her twenties not only took back controlling interest in the Brown Group but also swiftly purged all the people he'd planted in the company, cutting off his way of bleeding the Brown Group dry.

What drove him even crazier was that Sophia was actually running the Brown Group successfully.

In just one month, she'd not only stopped the hemorrhaging but also brought in so many new partnerships, with the stock price rising steadily.

Now everyone in the company had sided with Sophia.

At this thought, Sullivan's chest tightened, his whole body trembling with rage.

He wasn't willing to accept this.

He'd spent over a decade putting all this in place. How the hell was he losing to a girl barely in her twenties?

Just then, his phone suddenly rang—an unfamiliar number.

Sullivan answered with a frown. A cold male voice came through. "Mr. Brown, this is Byron from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Municipal Police Department."

"Regarding Mabel's will forgery case, we have some questions that require your cooperation. Please come to the station immediately."

Sullivan's heart skipped a beat, his grip on the phone tightening slightly.

The police were looking for him?

Had that useless Mabel confessed?

Impossible.

Mabel might be stupid, but she always listened to him. She would never give him up.

Besides, he'd covered his tracks perfectly, leaving no evidence.

Even if the police suspected him, they couldn't touch him.

Sullivan steadied himself and put on a surprised expression. "Byron? Will forgery? How is that possible? How could my sister do such a thing? Alright, I'll come right away. I'll definitely cooperate with your investigation."

After hanging up, Sullivan's expression immediately darkened.

He straightened his suit jacket, grabbed his briefcase, and quickly left the office.

What he didn't know was that as soon as he walked out of the Brown Group's main entrance, in a black sedan parked by the roadside, a man wearing a cap pulled out his phone and called Calvin.

"Calvin, Sullivan just left the company. He's heading toward the station."

Calvin on the other end immediately stood up and walked quickly toward Sophia's office. He pushed the door open without even knocking. "Ms. Brown, just got word. The police called Sullivan and asked him to come to the station to cooperate with the investigation into Mabel's will forgery case."

Sophia's head snapped up, a gleam flashing in her eyes.

Finally.

She'd been waiting for this day for far too long.

"Looks like Mabel can't hold out anymore." Sophia stood up and grabbed her bag from the corner of the desk. "This is the perfect time for us to submit the recording."
