Chapter 241 Boardroom from Hell
Chapter 241 Boardroom from Hell
THIRD PERSON’S POV.
The boardroom doors creaked open.
Pa Benedict instinctively stepped aside as a woman dressed in black slowly walked through the entrance.
The sharp click of her heels echoed across the silent room.
Then she removed her sunglasses.
Gasps erupted instantly.
“It’s impossible…”
“She’s alive!”
“Is that really Serena?”
“I thought she died!”
“Is she… a ghost?”
Serena stopped at the center of the room before calmly raising a hand.
“May I have everyone’s attention, please?”
The room gradually fell silent.
“I know every one of you believed I was dead.”
She smiled faintly.
“And I don’t blame you.”
Because truly, my dear father had planned for me to be killed but fate had other plans.”
She turned to Horace, “isn’t that right, dad?”
Horace simply stared at her, his expression barely fazed. “Serena.”
He called, his voice frighteningly calm.
“You don’t sound surprised to see me,” she observed.
“I’m not.” A slow smile spread across his face.
“After all, you’re the mistake I could never get rid of. I’d have been very surprised if you went down that easy.”
Several board members exchanged horrified glances.
Sarah tried to hide the victorious smile on her face.
Even Damian seemed to breathe lighter from the position he stood by the door.
Serena smiled back.
“Everyone out.”
The room looked at her in confusion.
“There are some things my father and I need to discuss privately.”
“No.” Damian spoke immediately. “I am not leaving you alone with him.”
Serena turned toward him and their eyes met. “Trust me, I can handle him.”
Damian read the look in her eyes and understood it immediately. “Remember, don’t hesitate.” He nodded and turned to leave the room.
Sarah still looked unconvinced.
“Serena…”
“I’ll be okay, Aunty.”
Bill finally nodded. “Let’s give her what she asked for.”
One by one, everyone filed out. The heavy wooden doors closing behind them.
Only Serena and Horace remained
She strolled to the door and clicked it shut. Locking both of them inside.
“This is the end of the road for you Father, there’s no escaping Karma this time around.”
“I know you’ve found out that I’m not your real dad, so no need to keep up with the ruse.” Horace laughed.
“You still don’t understand, do you?” He slowly began circling her.
“I built this family. I built this company.”
“Everything that the Gregory became, happened because of me.”
“That’s a lie, you are an opportunist who murdered his way to the top.”
“I am a survivor.”
“You are a killer. You poisoned Grandpa. Put a hit out on my real father and staged the accident that killed my mom.”
“You tried to kill me.”
“I should’ve finished the job before you were born.”
He smiled.
“You know what your biggest mistake was?”
“What?”
“Coming back.”
His hand suddenly disappeared behind his back.
Then returned holding a pistol.
He pointed it directly at Serena.
“You should’ve stayed dead.”
“You don’t want to do this,” Serena warned.
Horace laughed.
“You think I just started to want this today ?” He shook his head.
“No, I’ve wanted this for over twenty-five years.”
His finger tightened around the trigger. “And today I will finally finish what I started.”
The gun exploded immediately but Serena had already thrown herself sideways.
The bullet tore into the wall inches from her head. Only narrowly missing her.
She rolled across the floor before looking back in disbelief.
But Horace didn’t care, he was already fidgeting with the trigger aiming to take another shot at Serena but this time instead of ducking, Serena retrieved the gun Damian had forcefully placed in her hands that morning.
Balancing the gun between her hands, Serena took one shot at Horace and was already stumbling backwards.
But she didn’t stop there, she fired another which landed directly in his heart.
Seven shots echoed through the boardroom.
Outside, Sarah screamed. As the staff murmured in panic.
Damian lunged toward the door.
The security guards immediately began trying to force it open.
Inside however, Horace collapsed, his lifeless body hit the polished wooden floor with a dull thud.
Serena’s breathing came in ragged gasps as the gun slowly slipped from her fingers.
Ignoring the frantic pounding outside, she walked toward the body.
“How the mighty have fallen.”
She looked down at him.
The man who destroyed everything she loved now laying at her feet in a pool of his own blood, blood that she drew, his once-commanding presence reduced to a bitter, aging shadow of the past.
And in that instant, the truth crashes over her. All the missing pieces from the night of her death and eventual rebirth, the three shadows in the room when she was pushed off the balcony finally align.
She remembered everything so clearly now. It was Jonathan's hand that had wrapped around her throat and it was his voice that had spoken venom into her ears in her final moments.
Pa Benedict was the second person, the one who ordered for her to be thrown.
“Throw her over,” she remembered his thunderous voice giving the command.
And the final push that sent her falling into darkness... was Horace. Her own father. Mercilessly pushing her to her death.
Something else tugged at her memory. It was something that had felt like a brief feeling of comfort in a chaotic moment, she closed her eyes and remembered the scream she had heard, the one that pierced through the chaos of that night, the one that had made her smile on her way to the ground.
It was Clara's voice. Her sister had mourned her before anyone else could, and in that knowledge, a spark of something tender, something long-buried, flickered inside Serena.
Serena lowered the gun, her shoulders slumped as years of pain finally dissolved into stillness, she looked up at the rising sun outside the window of the boardroom and for the first time in her life, she felt truly at peace.
In that moment it wasn't a triumph; she felt it wasn't revenge. It was something quieter, deeper. The kind that comes only after surviving the impossible.
