Chapter 47

The next afternoon, his car was officially fixed. He couldn’t believe it. He had wheels again.

Layla, one of Jack Bay’s auto mechanics, told him it was good as new. They’d fixed it, thought he’d want it back at the property, so they’d driven it back to Uncle’s cabin.

Nathan got out of Rock’s truck, grateful for the ride out, and shielded his eyes against the mid-afternoon sun. His gaze went straight to his car. It definitely looked different.

Ryker though, had gone a bit quiet. Interesting how the cabin did that to him.

Oh well. Neither of them had had their act together when they’d first been here. And it for sure didn’t hold the best memories for the pup. They’d be gone shortly.

He pounded the hood of Rock’s truck. “Thanks, Buddy. Tag me if you need anything, ok?”

“Sure the thing’s in working order? I’ll wait until you start ‘er up.”

“Thanks.”

He strode to the car, his gaze grazing the cabin. Seemed like no one had been here since he’d left weeks ago. Still the same, except one shutter had come loose.

Oh well, his uncle would deal with it, once he got back from his business trip. And then they’d have the chat. But now, he had enough to keep him busy at Amy’s.

He got Ryker in the car, clipped his lead on and attached it, then started the car up. Damn thing purred as it had never purred before.

That Layla sure knew how to fix a car. He grinned, gave the thumbs up to Rock.

Rock grinned, and left, spinning gravel. He followed, took the fork that went to Amy’s cabin, heart full of anticipation.

He had a dinner to make for his girl.
