Chapter 81: My Sister is the Monster!
Rosia's pov
My mates shed off their robes giving room for their wings to emerge. They spread out, ready to take flight and Instead of finding their way out of the palace through doors and corridors, they go out through our massive bedroom window. I watch as their wings carry them to the front of the next building. I quickly make my way out, glad they'll get there first.
By the time my human legs make it to the second building a lot of people and guards are running up the stairs leading to my sister's room. They all step aside for me to pass then they follow behind.
I burge into her room to find her in the arms of one of my mates, she has several bleeding bruises on her face and hands. Aerion is peeking out through a large hole made on the bedroom window.
"I was asleep and the room was completely dark when suddenly, this huge thing lunged at me." She narrates to my mates terror evident on her face. She points at the gaping hole in the glass where Aerion is still scanning the dark courtyard below. "When the guards outside started pounding on the door, trying to burst in. The monster flew right out through the window into the night."
Flew? We are four stories up. Unless the beast possessed wings as my mates do, it should have hit the courtyard. But then who knows what kind of a monster we are dealing with.
"Shh, you're safe now. We have you," my mate comforts rubbing her back. "We are going to get a doctor to tend to your wounds immediately."
Despite my mate trying to pull away, Rhea clings to him. She wraps her arms tightly around his neck, burying her face into his bare chest and whimpering like a terrified little child.
I don't know why I really don't believe her story one bit. I look over at one of the guards, who is standing by the ruined doorway. "You were stationed right outside," I state. "Did you see anything enter this Chambers?"
"No, Your Highness," the guard replies bowing his head in shame. "My men and I have been posted outside the doors of her chambers throughout the entire night. We never left our posts, and we swear on our lives, no one else went inside except Princess Rhea herself."
If the guards had been outside the only door the entire time, and they hadn't seen or heard a massive monster sneak past them.....how did it get in? If it had broken through the heavy glass window from the outside, the guards would have heard the noise of shattering glass before Rhea started screaming. But they didn't. They only realized the monster was inside after she started screaming.
Which means the monster hadn't broken in. It was already inside. It had been hiding in her room.
Before I can voice this out, my mates' assistant, burst into the room.
"Your Majesties..." Silas chokes out. "Another servant... has just been found dead in the palace kitchen."
"What? Another one?" My mates bursts.
"And none of your men has seen this creature yet? What is it, invisible?!"
"What part of her is missing?"Aeries questions.
"Except for the claw wounds, her body is mostly intact. Except... for her hands. Her hands have been completely eaten. Chewed to the bone."
At this a horrific realization hits me.
Is it the same maid who had handed Rhea an handkerchief in the throne room earlier today? She had flawless beautiful hands that Rhea had stared at so intensely. She had looked at the maids hands and smiled.
My gaze snaps to her, still sobbing in my mate's arms.
The fact that she doesn't eat, the sudden growth of her breast after another servant's murder, and now this other maid. Tells me that it's her. The monster isn't chasing my sister. My sister is the monster.
"Hey," I speak to my mates. "I need to have a word with the three of you. Right now. Privately."
I turn on my heels and walk to the other room. My mates exchange brief, bewildered glances before following me.
"We are really sorry that we promised to keep your family safe and we are falling you terribly." Aerion apologies.
"You have nothing to apologize for." I say looking directly into the eyes of my three mates. "The monster didn't break into this room tonight. It was already inside. Because the monster is Rhea."
For a long moment, they just stare at me.
Then, Aeries let out a breathless, disbelieving laugh. "Rosia... love, I think you're in shock. The trauma of seeing another body—"
"No, you listen to me!" I hiss. "Think about it. The guards swear on their lives that no one entered through that door all night. If a massive beast had entered through a four-story-high window from the outside, the guards would have heard the glass break before Rhea screamed. But they didn't. They only heard her screams, followed by the sound of glass breaking. That means the beast came from the inside."
"She has claw marks all over her, Rosia." Aerius points out, his voice laced with concern as if he thinks I am losing my mind. "She is a traumatized girl and your sister."
"She clawed herself!" I point out. "She made those wounds to get your attention. Don't you see it? She hasn't ever eaten a single bite of food since she arrived here, yet she's not skinny. So what does she eat? And earlier today, I walked into her chambers without knocking. When she arrived yesterday.... her breasts weren't full like that. But suddenly right after a servant was found with her chest entirely torn out, now her breasts are bursting the seams of her tailored dresses. Breasts do not grow overnight!"
My mates looks absolutely flabbergasted.
"Rosia, that is a... monstrous accusation," Aerion whispers his eyes instinctively glancing back over his shoulder towards the other room where Rhea is sited like a saint on the bed. "She is a good girl. She's your sister."
"And what about the maid that has been found dead just now?" I shout in frustration, because they are not believing me. "The guards say her hands have been chewed. I'm sure it's the exact same maid who handed Rhea a handkerchief in the throne room this evening. I watched Rhea stare at that maids flawless beautiful hands. My mother told me a monster back in Alpha Nolan's pack was harvesting beautiful parts from beautiful women. It wasn't after Rhea. Rhea is the one doing the killing and the harvesting. She is eating their beautiful parts to build her own! Surely no one is born as flawless as she is!"
They let out a heavy, exhausted sigh. "Rosia... you are just as beautiful as your sister is. By that logic, should we assume you are a monster who slaughters servants to absorb their beauty, too?" Aeries questions.
"I—what? I am your mate! I am telling you what I know!"
"And you think I am the monster that is killing servants?"
I snap my head around to see Rhea standing directly behind my mates.
"You should be resting until the physician arrives. Go back to bed," Aerion says taking steps toward her.
"No," she shouts looking at me, her big green eyes filled with fake stupid tears. "I want to hear this. My own sister... the sister I believed loves me... thinks I am a monster!"
"Calm down," Aeries interjects his eyes shooting her a warning look. "Everyone is exhausted. Your sister is just overwhelmed. She didn't mean—"
"I meant exactly what I just said!" I snarl, stepping past my mates to face her directly. I am done playing nice with the sweet, innocent mask that disguised as a monster. The longer my mates will fall for it, the more women will be her meal.
I stop inches from her, looking down at her perfect, pristine face. "Why don't you prove you are not the monster by showing us your wolf?" I demand. "Shift to your wolf right now... or I am having you thrown out of this damn palace tonight!"
