Leo
“No!” I take a deep breath. “I’ve had it with people using Willow to get what they want from me. I won’t allow, I won’t allow...” This damn pain!
"Professor Brown," nurse Marie nods as she passes and I nod back.
“If you don’t do it, I’m going to make her go insane, slowly.” He stares into my soul, his jaw clenched and his green eyes gleaming with fury. “I’m going to make her lose confidence in herself, and you can’t tell her my plan or I will reveal your little limbicus secret.” He continues.
“You petty bustard!” I manage to string up a sentence between breaths. “Let her go! She needs to move on, to find someone better. Don't involve her in our fights.”
“Why do I get the feeling that, that someone is you?” He titters. “I wonder how Alpha Hunter would react to this. His son is in love with a human.”
“Don’t, don’t mention that monster!”
“That monster is a father figure to me, and he is going to make me an alpha.”
“I would die before I let that happen!”
“Fine by me. At least, I won’t have to feel guilty. When you are dead, you won’t be here to whine about how I took your rightful place.”
I clutch onto my chest.
He chuckles. “You almost hit the lottery with Willow’s sister, she is hotter. You should’ve settled for her and lived the rest of your life away from the pack. You lucky bustard, the moon goddess chose the prettier sister for you.”
I glare at him in response, before sinking into a chair.
“Cat caught your tongue? Would you like some water?” His smirk is mixed with an evil glint I’ve never noticed before.
‘Not from you!’ I mind-link him, my eyes closed, listening to Asclepius who wants to fight Liam but is too weak to take control.
I text Professor Malino: I’m at the hospital, bring two potions now. Please.
She texts back, letting me know she is on her way.
“I have noticed Willow flirt with you, and I know she kissed you!”
"Why are you trying to deny your feelings for her?” I ask him.
I notice people who are passing looking in our direction, but we continue with our argument.
“No! I don’t have feelings for her, but she hurt my wolf. You are both going to pay, with interest!”
“You kissed Lucy!”
“Because Willow has no wolf!” He snarls. “She didn’t feel what I felt!”
“Would you care if she had a wolf?”
A flicker of hesitation crosses his face. “No!”
“They are still busy with Chloe. She is okay, but they want to monitor her symptoms. I’m going to call my mom and...What’s going on?” Willow looks from me to Liam, her eyebrows furrowed.
“Nothing,” I mumble.
“Something is going on. Leo, you are sweating and struggling to breathe.” She leans, placing a hand on my shoulder. “Why are you not helping him?” She looks up at Liam.
“I’m sorry, babe, I couldn’t... Every time I look at him...” He clenches his jaw.
What did he tell her?
“Please, call a doctor,” she says to him.
Liam nods and walks away, Willow remains and she kneels in front of me, holding my hands, and encouraging me to breathe. I look into her brown eyes, and I feel slightly soothed by her presence.
Liam returns with a wheelchair accompanied by two nurses, Jake and Andy.
"Professor Brown," they exclaim. Both making a fuss about how much I've lost weight and how my 'perfect' complection has changed.
Liam tries to wheel me to my assigned room.
“Leave me alone!” I roar.
“Are you guys fighting? Seriously?” Willow purses her lips. "Sit on the chair, Leo!"
Andy, the nurse who is ogling Liam takes hold of the wheelchair.
Willow and Liam follow us, and I’m given something for the pain. I’m asked to wear the hideous hospital gown, and my hands shake as I try to unfasten my shirt.
“Do you need help?” Willow asks.
“Don’t you dare touch him!” Liam glowers at her.
“I’m glad you trust me,” she rolls her eyes. “I was going to ask the nurses, anyway. I’m going to check on Chloe while Leo gets undressed.” She storms out of the room.
After getting dressed, the nurses check my vital signs before giving me medication for pain. The nurses both leave, leaving me with Liam.
“We’ll be right back,” Andy squeezes my hand and her eyes linger on Liam as they walk out.
“I think I like it when you are sick and depressed. Now people think I’m more handsome,” he grins. “So, are you going to reject the pack?”
For a moment, I feel sorry for him, his life evolves around being better than me. He wants to be the most good looking, he wants to ensure that I stay in exile so that he can be an alpha.
“You want me to reject my family, to reject Jessica?” I growl.
“You are so dramatic,” he exhales. “You have no family.”
“Get the hell out!”
“Jessica can’t be an alpha, but I can. I’m strong and everyone in the pack loves me. Jessica can marry some weird alpha and become a luna.” He shrugs. “And you, on the other hand, will live happily ever after with...I don’t know, don’t care.”
I grumble, as Asclepius whimpers in pain, still complaining about the broken mate bond.
“You know you are fighting a losing battle,” he leans towards my ear and whispers. “Quit while I still have a shred of sympathy.”
I growl before closing my eyes, picturing myself with my hands on his throat and his back against the wall. This almost lessens the pain that makes my breath labored.
The nurses walk back in. "Professor, is the medication not working?" Jake asks.
Professor Malino enters almost immediately.
“Professor Malino,” the nurses say in unison.
“Please call doctor Govender. Meanwhile, I will attend to him.”
Liam grunts, “Professor Murderer.”
“Now, you are overdoing it.” Professor Malino takes a glance at Liam.
“Liam? What’s wrong with you?” Willow enters the room.
“She knows what she did, this murderer. You will find me in the waiting area.” Liam brisk was walks out of the room.
“Drink,” Professor Malino whispers as she takes the bottle out of her bag.
“What are you giving him?” Willow raises her eyebrows.
“Something to speed up his healing.”
“I hope it’s not an unauthorized experimental medicine.”
“Willow!” I exclaim.
“I’m just saying,” she shrugs.
“No, it is not, this is just natural herbs. Liam got into your head. Didn’t he?” Professor Malino smiles.
She nods, “I’m just wondering why you didn’t say something when he accused you.”
“Liam is a troubled child.”
Willow nods again, eliciting a chuckle from me. “May I get some for my sister?”
“Of course,” she takes out another small bottle out of her bag.
Willow mumbles her thank you before walking out of the room.
“Willow’s sister was your mate?” Her eyes widen.
“Yep, thank you for the potion. These human pills never work on us.” I sit up.
“When?” She whispers.
“Long story,” I exaggerate my yawn. “I will tell you another time, I feel sleepy.”
“Of course you do. I will see you tomorrow before you get discharged. Doctor Govender is on her way, she’ll take good care of you.” She kisses my forehead.
A few minutes later, Willow and Liam enter the room and I hear distant whispers as I doze off.
“I know what he did is terrible, but we can’t let him die. We don’t want to live the rest of our lives feeling guilty.” Willow says to Liam.
